Felipe and Letizia Close ‘Cervantes Lives’ 400th Anniversary Commemorations

The King and Queen of Spain today officially closed the ‘Cervantes Lives’ series of events held to mark the 400th anniversary of the death of Miguel de Cervantes, one of the world’s pre-eminent Spanish language writers.

Held at the Royal Palace of Madrid, the closing event was attended by 200 guests from the cultural and education spheres.

King Felipe delivered a speech in which he said that Cervantes’ “ideals of justice, tolerance, freedom, beauty, solidarity, love and friendship”, though written about over four centuries ago, are “as valid and necessary in our present world” as they were then.
