Despite Delays, William and Kate Visit the Isles of Scilly

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s second day of their Cornwall ‘mini tour’ got off to an unplanned start today, as bad weather on the Isles of Scilly delayed their arrival to the island.

Instead of heading out to the archipelago this morning, the couple paid a visit to the Eden Project in Cornwall, where they were given a tour of the charity’s large Biomes that house plants from varying global climates – their Rainforest Biome is the largest undercover rainforest in the world.

Part of the tour included being shown a baby dinosaur puppet that is used on the Eden Project’s”‘Dinosaur Uprising” program, which seemed to startle the Duchess as she did not see it at first as she spoke with it’s handler. They also got the chance to sample a glass of baobab, a tropical fruit drink from Malawi.

The weather cleared up around lunchtime so that William and Kate could still make part of their planned schedule on the Isles. They visited the Tresco Gardens and then the family business Scilly Flowers on St Martin’s, before a brief reception at the St Martin’s Community Hall. William told guests that it had been some time since he had listed visited the Isles, having not been there since he was a young boy on holiday with his family.

Kate donned a pair of printed trousers from GAP, matched with a cream blouse and Smythe navy blazer.
