The Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro are set to begin in less than a month’s time, and the list of royals who will be making the trip to the southern hemisphere for the event is beginning to form.

Those confirmed as attending thus far are:

  • Denmark: Crown Prince Frederik, Crown Princess Mary, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie – they will be attending the opening ceremony on August 5, several sporting events, as well as a few Danish-Brazilian anniversary events. The Crown Prince is a member of the International Olympic Committee.
  • The Netherlands: King Willem-Alexander, an honorary member of the IOC, will attend between August 4 and 6.
  • Sweden: King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia will attend from August 16 to 21.

Other royals whose attendance is not yet confirmed but is most likely include The Princess Royal, Prince Albert II of Monaco, Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg, Princess Nora of Liechtenstein and Prince Faisal of Jordan, as they are all members of the IOC.

Keep an eye on this thread for further attendance updates as we get closed to August 5!
