Coins For Albert II And Queen Paola’s Golden Wedding

On July 2nd 1959 Prince Albert of Belgium, prince of Liège married the Italian aristocrat Donna Paola Ruffo di Calabria in Brussels. To commemorate this wedding anniversary, the Belgian mint decided to release a commemorative coin. And who could better make the first one than the golden couple themselves? So today king Albert II and queen Paola visited the royal mint today in Brussels to do exactly that. The king however got a special coin just for himself though, as he is celebrating his 75th birthday this year too.

This was not the only public activity for queen Paola today though, later in the afternoon the queen paid a visit to the exhibition ‘Ma femme, ma partenaire dans l’exploitation’ by that is organized to commemorate the 4oth anniversairy of the ‘Union des Agricultrices Wallonnes” (agricultural union of Wallonia) in Gembloux.
