Queen Elizabeth II Lights VE Day ‘Beacon of Peace’
Queen Elizabeth II lit the first Victory in Europe (VE) Day ‘Beacon of Peace’ at the top of the Long Walk in Windsor Great Park last night.
The beacon, which was followed by over 200 other beacons lit shortly after around the United Kingdom, was lit in remembrance of the thousands who fought and died in World War II.
The Duke of Edinburgh joined the Queen for the lighting, while the Duke of York and his elder daughter Princess Beatrice were in the hundreds-strong crowd.
