Romania’s Prince Nicolae today turned thirty years old, and a birthday dinner was hosted at the Elisabeta Palace in Bucharest by his aunt and uncle, Crown Princess Margarita and Prince Radu, to celebrate the occasion.

Friends and colleagues of the Prince from around Europe travelled to Romania for the dinner, as well as the ‘Romania – A Royal Journey’ excursion that was arranged by the Royal House. Thirty-seven guests joined Prince Nicolae for visits to the cities of Bucharest, Sinai and Sibiu to learn about Romanian culture, architecture and traditions. Journeys of this kind were first established by King Carol I and his wife Elisabeth in the late 1800s.

Prince Nicolae is the elder child of Princess Elena of Romania, herself the second daughter of King Michael and Queen Anne, and her first husband, Robin Medforth-Mills. He was born in Geneva, and grew up in England.

He was created a Prince of Romania on his twenty-fifth birthday in 2010 by his grandfather King Michael (the move was announced in December 2007), and since then has been third in line to the defunct Romanian throne. He currently lives in Romania and works with the Curtea Veche Publishing House.
