Spanish King Completes German Visit

On December 2, the second and last day of his introductory visit to Germany, King Felipe VI attended various meeting in North Rhine-Westphalia.

In Bielefeld, the King visited the new Research and Development Center of the Spanish company Gestamp. At his arrival he was greeted by Angelica Schwall-Düren, Minister Federal Affairs, Europe and Media, Pit Clausen, the Mayor of Bielefeld and Francisco José Riberas, President and CEO of Gestamp. Gestamp is a Spanish multi-national engineering company founded in 1958.

In the Gestamp headquarters, King Felipe opened a technology center and made a tour of the center accompanied by the director of the Center, Ulf Sudowe. Then King Felipe held a speech praising the Spain as “the second largest producer of cars in the EU.” He also thanked the German authorities and businesses for the hospitality towards the Spanish investor.

Later the King visited the headquarters of the Bertelsmann Foundation in Gütersloh. He was greeted by the President of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, Hannelore Kraftthe, the President of the Foundation, Liz Mohn and the Chairman and CEO, Thomas Rabe. Bertelsmann Foundation is a German multinational mass media corporation founded in 1835.

Following the visit there was a lunch with the Spanish-German Business Council. In his speech, King Felipe said that “business relations between Germany and Spain are clearly dynamic”, he also added that during this visit in Germany he had the opportunity “to approach a wide range of areas in which our bilateral relations are closely interconnected.

“The end of this visit that has given me a close-up look at Germany, its political players, institutions and businesses and —just today— a ‘Land’ such as North Rhine-Westphalia, which, Madam President, I am sure also harbours vast potential for Spanish-German relations, which we must find a way of exploring.”
