Belgian King and Queen Continue Province Visits

On Friday September 27th in the afternoon, the King and the Queen visited Antwerp, the Capital of the Antwerp Province.

The Royal Couple were welcomed at the museum MAS (Museum aan de Stroom) by the Mayor of Antwerp Bart De Wever and the Governor of the Province Cathy Berx. After signing the Golden Book, the King and the Queen received a photo of Prince Baudouin taken in 1935 when he was a child.

The Royal Couple then took a walk trough the streets to meet the public gathered there to greet them. In late afternoon the King and the Queen attended a working dinner with the theme: “Culture and entrepreneurship in cosmopolitan Antwerp”, about art, science, commerce and entrepreneurship.

The visit ended in the evening with the official opening of the Red Star Line Museum.

The following week, on Wednesday October 2nd, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde visited Namur, the Capital of the Province of Namur. Arriving at 11 o’clock, the Royal Couple was greeted by the children of “The Pretty Notes” choir who sang the “Li Bia Bouquet”.

At the Provincial Palace, the King and the Queen were welcomed by the Governor of the Province Denis Mathen, and the mayor, Maxime Prevot. The Royal Couple received gifts and signed the Guest Book. After the welcoming speeches from the Governor and the Mayor, the King and the Queen moved to the Provincial Museum of Ancient Art where they visited the treasure Hugo Oignies and the pictorial works of the painter Henri Bles Bouvignes.

Then took place a working lunch at Royal Theatre of Namur. The impact of the crisis on the province and the training of young people were some of the issues discussed during the working lunch.

After the lunch, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde made an appearance for a few minutes on the balcony of the theatre. In the afternoon, the Royal Couple went through rue de la Tour and Avenue Fernand Golenvaux for a walk and to meet the people who were waiting to greet them.
