Belgian Economic Mission to Japan, Days Three and Four

On the third day of the Economic Mission to Japan, June 12, Crown Prince Philippe attended the inauguration of the collaboration between GSK Vaccines and Daiichi Sankyo Pharmaceutical at the Japan Vaccine Company Head Office. GSK Vaccines is specialized in the research, development and production of innovative prophylactic and therapeutic vaccines.

Then the Prince had lunch at the Keidanren Head Office, the Japan Business Federation, when he attended meetings with Ministers and Belgian and Japanese businessmen. Prince Philippe also visited  the NYK head office with Belgian Ministers and met with NYK chairman Koji Miyahara, president Yasumi Kudo, and board counselor Takao Kusakari. NYK is a leading shipping company.

On the same day, Princess Mathilde met the Japanese musicians and singers who have studied in Belgium at the Embassy of Belgium in Tokyo. Then the Princess went to the Bunka Gakuen University in Tokyo where she visited an exhibition of court kimonos and she saw fashion works made by designers and school students.

In the late afternoon, the Crown Prince Couple went to the Imperial Palace to have dinner with Their Majesties Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko.

The third day ended with a cocktail at the Belgian Embassy in Tokyo. Prince and Princess Hitachi were present.

On the fourth day, June 13, Prince Philippe attended the opening of the new Japanese headquarters in Tokyo of the pharmaceutical group UCB. At the Belgian Embassy, the Prince had lunch with Japanese Investors, then at the Ministry of Economy,Trade and Industry Prince Philippe had meeting with Ministers.

Princess Mathilde went to Sendai, where she attended a meeting with students taking part in the project ‘Building International Bridges’. She had lunch at the “Lasalle Home Orphanage” and then the Princess visited the Himamari community, a temporary housing unit for victims of the tsunami. She also went outside Sendai in an area affected by the earthquake and tsunami disaster on March 11, 2011.
