Princess Mathilde Visits School and Hospital

Princess Mathilde has visited a school in Blankenberge. The princess listened to the reading of the story ‘Pepijn and the Dark Perfume’ (Pepijn en het duistere parfum) by Katie Velghe. The princess also visited a project of ‘t Jolletje, that coordinates homework with the students of the school, she also attended several workshops. Mathilde thinks reading to children is “important for their development,” says the official website of the Belgian family. It is not a coincidence that this royal attention to reading coinsides with the annual week of book for youngsters (jeugdboekenweek).

After this visit the princess left for Ghent where she visited the clinic for children’s diseases of the university hospital of the city (UGent). Here she talked to young patients suffering from cancer and their family. This activity has to do with the campaign ‘Fight Cancer’ that will be broadcasted onf the Flemish public television channel VRT on Friday 13 March. With her visit princess Mathilde wants to show her lasting support and dedication to the welfare of sick children. According to the website of the Belgian royal family, the princess was impressed by the courage and strength of the children and their family.
