A program for the 70th birthday celebrations of HM Queen Margrethe II, whose birthday is April 16th, was released yesterday by the Royal Court.

The program begins in late March and runs through to April 16th, with the Queen and senior members of the royal family attending the openings of multiple exhibitions honouring various sectors of the Queen’s life. A banquet at Christiansborg Palace will take place on April 13th, broadcast by TV2. Two nights later, on the 15th, a gala at the royal theatre will be held.

On the day of Queen Margrethe’s actual birthday, the royal family will appear on the balcony at Amalienborg as they do each year, before a luncheon at the Copenhagen Town Hall. A dinner for personal friends will be held at Fredensborg Palace that evening.

It is expected that several royals from across Europe will fly to Copenhagen for the milestone birthday. Likely guests include the Norwegian and Swedish royal families, who have close ties with the Danish royals.

A new portrait of the Queen, affectionately known as ‘Daisy’ by the people, was released with the information, as was an official logo for the birthday celebrations. The portrait was photographed by Tine Harden, and the logo produced by Paul Bear in conjunction with Wonderful Copenhagen; both can be used by shops, businesses and cities which wish to celebrate the Queen’s birthday.
