Prince Moulay Rachid Patrons the 9th Marrakech Film Festival

The 9th Marrakech International Film Festival, held under the patronage of King Mohammed VI, opened Friday in Marrakech. An array of prominent people involved in art and culture took part in the opening ceremony which honors national and internationals movies.

Prince Moulay Rachid, Chairman of the Festival Foundation, said in his annual editorial on the Festival website that The Marrakech International Film Festival conserves its past achievements and looks towards the future. He stressed at the same time his certainty “of the excellent level of the competition, the professionalism of the jury, the in-depth work carried out for the visually-impaired people, and the faithful attendance of all those who have set a foot on the festival catwalk and who have come back again.” The prince also wished that “this year’s Festival strengthen the film directors’ will to express the multiple facets of our beautiful country, Morocco the land of Islam, progress and tolerance.”

Later that Friday evening prince Moulay Rachid attend a dinner offered by King Mohammed VI on the opening of the 9th Marrakech International Film Festival.

The event will be chaired by famous Iranian director scriptwriter and producer Abbas Kiarostami who was has been awarded the golden palm prize. Several VIP personalities were among the attendance such as Princess Clotilde of Savoy, Cecilia Attias, former wife the french president Sarkozy, and her current husband Richard Attias, also Sex and the City star actress Kim Cattrall, G.I. Joe star Moroccan actor Saud Taghmaoui, and US actor Christopher Walken. The festival will end on December 12.
