"End Game" by Omid Scobie - 2023

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I am more curious about it being said that Camilla was the royal who thanked Piers Morgan for going after Meghan.

All this tells me is that *someone* is very bitter and seriously jealous of Kate.

Without a doubt, imagine being criticised for being nervous when making a speech. At least she doesn’t grab the microphone. Not doing anything about Meghans mental health issues, you know the ones that Harry was too embarrassed about to ask for help or tell anybody about.

Wanting to spend time bringing up her children in a happy balanced home, preparing them for the life that is in front of them.

Omid obviously doesn’t care about Catherine’s mental health with this personal attack on her. This is not a book it is a personal attack . There will be no recovery of the relationship between William and Harry, it has gone.

Charles is being put in a corner to choose between his sons. All these leaks about Charles and Harry talking again etc etc. This is to put a divide between Charles and William. What horrible people are out there.

Let’s see if Meghan distances herself . The letter comes to mind, she always said she kept records.

I thought it was alleged she thanked him for standing up for the family not the same as going after Meghan.

A lot of what he said was true he just doesn’t use a filter. I need to watch his programme this week.

That's weird since Piers said it was Fergie. I trust Piers over Omid. Especially since Piers has recently dined and hugged the York Princesses, showing his closeness with that branch. I think Omid doesn't want to attack Fergie since Eugenie is the only family member that's in regularly in contact with H&M. So he's shifted that story to Camilla, thinking that all women over 60 are interchangeable. And knowing Camilla won't sue him, since she takes the high road.

If he is so worried about libel laws he obviously isn’t sure of the accuracy of his information or he would publish and be damned. Also if this information is held in a letter who let him read it or told him of its contents

Robert Jobson — 'Perhaps Omid Scobie will provide examples in the book where Meghan actually does something worthwhile, other than talking about doing so and trashing the royal family.'

I had to laugh.

Well, we can’t all come into this world with a liking for being the centre of attention and also an actress with highly trained left tear duct or whichever one it was.

I think I said at the beginning of this topic, its just old stuff really. Wonder if he does give an indication of why the house of windsor is in bad shape. As afar as I can see they are all getting on with the boring not very glamorous day to day stuff.

Let's be honest most people who follow royal news are well aware of all these stories. Just a few surprises here and there from the excerpts but all this has been said before Meghan came on the scene about Catherine's nervousness when giving speeches.

The funny thing is that if Catherine had drawn the Ukrainian flag upside down, or had said Ireland is part of the Commonwealth (all things Meghan has done), Omid would have savaged Catherine and her lack of international education and how it proves she's unfit to be a royal.

Gotta love it

Omid makes Meghan and Harry look so bad with his Regina George tactics and his known association to them. I hopes he keeps unintentionally spotlighting their characters. The term "own goal" comes to mind.

The problem I have with it is that he has turned into criticism. Yes people have commented that Catherine is nervous when making speeches but it is said in a caring considerate way not as an attack dog.

The book apparently claims that Kate and Meghan were told to dress like Diana, which seems ridiculous. Why would the Royal Family want to recall Diana, who was so critical of them? There's a picture of Meghan wearing a green dress and Kate wearing a polka dot dress, with comments that Diana once wore similar dresses. Well, it's hardly unusual for someone to wear a green dress or a polka dot dress, is it?!

But seemingly another leak claims the Queen liked that Catherine could be moulded not like Diana , they cannot have it all ways.

I thought the 'moulding' claim was interesting. I personally think that means 'liked that Catherine was willing to listen and watch and learn, and to take advice when given, instead of just blindly doing her own thing' but that's nowhere near as sexy, is it?

Yes I loved that line as well.

Prince William 'doesn't think King Charles is a competent leader' and was baffled that the King 'lay awake any nights worrying about Prince Andrew', (...) A source said: 'William [doesn't'] think his father is competent enough, quite frankly.

'Though they share similar passions and interests, their style of leadership is completely different'.
Source: Extract from DM

While I wouldn't be surprised if at some point William might have said something along those lines - in the specific case of Andrew it was the Queen who was still in charge! -, I doubt he would say so in general (although they might have different leadership styles).

And claiming that the queen thought her son unfit for the job is even going further than suggesting that his son doesn't think he is up to par.

I thought the same. I also thought it interesting that in the extract, Scobie is dismissive of Catherine’s approach of taking a lot of time to learn and gradually ramping up her role over time and contrasts it unfavorably with Meghan jumping straight in and trying new things right away.

But… the results of these approaches speak for themselves. Meghan ran into cultural roadblocks she was unaware of, like the reaction to her Vogue issue, and a lot of the controversy around her wouldn’t have happened with a slower and more careful plan. Meghan burned out after less than two years, whereas Catherine has done very well in her role. You would think with the benefit of hindsight, it would be obvious to everyone including Meghan that a more slow and cautious approach to her role might have served her better in the long term.

The 'marathon' vs 'sprint' comes to mind. Catherine knows she is in it for the long term/the marathon. Apparently, Meghan was in it for the short term/sprint.

I am very curious to read this part of the book for myself:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/...rince-Princess-titles-Omid-Scobie-claims.html

I have always been baffled by the fact that they wanted their kids to have Prince/Princess titles even though they plan to raise them in the U.S. as private citizens, and even though they themselves have no intention of being working royals ever again. I am even more baffled by the idea that it should have been addressed immediately upon the King’s ascension and downright perplexed that they don’t understand how their kids are different than the Wales kids.

Reinforces again that Harry doesn’t think much about other people’s experiences because if he did, he’d recognize that James and Louise were treated very differently to him and his brother and so were Peter and Zara- but it’s not because they mattered less as grandchildren, just that their place in the public Royal family was different.

To be frank, I don't think Harry even knows Louise and James exist. He made a comment in Spare about Eugenie being the last grandkid born in 1990.

And I think he only knows of her existence since she's his friend. Unless it directly affects him, it either doesn't exist or doesn't matter.

The Sussex’s mouthpiece is very Kate-obssessed one might say, I wonder why.

Because Kate lives rentfree in Meghan's head and Harry is angry Kate married William and birthed 3 kids who all took William's attention away from him. At least that's what my kitchen sink psych degree tells me.

I do agree that this was handled badly by Charles. Either make it clear at the start that his grandchildren by his youngest son, unlike the children by his mother's youngest son, will be known as prince/princess or announce that going forward the titles are only reserved for the children of the monarch and future heirs, continuing the precedent set for the children of Edward and Sophie. This 'in-between' and unnecessary wait was ill-advised (or decided ?).

Well I think it is pretty tiresome for all the royal reporters to always say the same thing about her not having done anything of substance besides trash the royal family. She had a career beforehand, did charity work and had a blog. Just because you are not wearing a tiara or live in a palacedoesnt mean your life is not a success.

It seems to me that every member of the royal family has been on the receiving end of criticism. Some more harsh than others and some things you can't change about yourself so I haven't read the excerpts about her giving speeches and if he is critical than that is wrog but people blaming Meghan for this is wrong too. There had been a lot of criticism in the past about this. Like I said in an earlier post a lot of this info is just rehashed news.

I think her age also had something to do with how quickly she got about doing things. She had Archie and got busy with many projects maybe too quickly without settling in first. There was a lot of criticism of Kate and William years ago after they were married that they weren't doing enough to support the RF. It's almost like you're damned if you do damned if you dont.

I also wondered if the paced start was as a result of Diana and Sarah. Learning by the mistakes.

Yes, I agree. I've always felt that the royal family thought that Diana in particular would slip into her role with relative ease because she wasn't an unknown entity in their world. Having experienced the disasters that became of the Wales and York marriages, I'm certain the importance of taking it slowly and steadily would have become top of the list!

I can highlight any criticisms of the couple in the book I see when I read it and post them here. That’s very easy for me to do.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this book. I appreciate not having to do it myself! :flowers:

Didn't she only have 72 working days while in the BRF? Her workload was nothing special.

Her problem seems to be homesickness. And immediately getting pregnant, even though psychologists already say the first year of marriage is the most stressful. Also her public beef with her family. And her reluctance to cut ties with the celebrity world (vacationing at Elton John's Villa and George Clooney's villa), focusing on Vogue and using it to give nods to her favorite celebrities. And looking for Netflix and Spotify deals before she ever left.

And most glaring treating her employees in ways that crew members are treated in Hollywood, notoriously awful and unacceptable outside that Hollywood bubble.

Not to mention not thinking her houses were as glam as the McMansions in Socal.

I think "workload", was probably not even in the top 20 of her problems.

Not sure how Meghan has been much of a success in the last five years, either as a royal, or in the nearly 4 years since.

I think the only reason I'd get my hands on a copy (and certainly wouldn't buy a copy) would be to see if there is actually anything negative about the Sussex's in "Endgame". So far we know Scobie has criticised - the King, Camilla, William, Catherine, Anne, Edward, Sophie. I don't think he is clued up enough (or more likely doesn't think they warrant any attention) to say anything about the Kents or Gloucesters so he has basically gone for all the working royals. And you know what - many of these stories we've heard before so it seems to me all he has really done is gathered old stories about them all and taken so new anecdotes from the Sussex's to reinforce them (fed by friends or staffers no doubt, so the couple can maintain deniability). Well if there is not any criticism of Harry and Meghan then it proves its not an accurate book in it as surely even fans would have to admit they made mistakes in their handling of their many dramas. Its evidence enough perhaps that those he seems to have the most to say about are those who H&M feel are against them - I'd love to see what is written about Andrew, or do they not want to upset Eugenie?
So, I wonder if the book is balanced and fair in its handling and the media is just choosing not to report those bits - or is Omid really not using his well honed journalistic skills at all and taking down the RF to raise up his friends.

Not really, taking your time in the long terms helps. I mean the cautious route taken by William and Kate. William and Kate were unfairly criticised, but in the long term, it didn’t matter. Some of the criticisms weren’t unique to Harry and Meghan
After viewing how Diana and Sarah struggled as they quickly jumped into royal duties, as well as complete life changes including motherhood, I can understand why William and Catherine chose to take it slowly. That decision has definitely benefited them IMHO.
