King Constantine has passed away - January 10, 2023

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
May he rest in peace. He and Anne-Marie were a fabulous couple.

Any expectations that Pavlos will assume a title other than the one he has now?

Αιώνια η μνήμη!
Sweet Tino is no longer suffering, what a relief that he was able to die in his home country. May God give rest to the deceased, and consolation to his widow and darling sisters with whom he had such a wonderful relationship.

The funeral will of course be held in Tatoi. The government has no say on that particular point.

In all likelihood, Constantine will be buried in Tatoi, unless the family decides otherwise. Notably, Queen Frederiki was also buried there, who died in 1981, in much more difficult political circumstances and with fresh memories of the referendum on the State.

A week ago, close relatives of Konstantinos, his sons Nikolaos and Pavlos, were in Maximos to discuss the case. They were accompanied by the lawyer Konstantinos Lidorikis, who handles cases of the former royal family.

If it were for me, I'd choose Nikolaos to be "Custodian of The Crown".

Wonderful, beautiful photo (by David Lees) of "Karate King" Konstantinos and his brother-in-law King Juan Carlos.

How sad for Theodora that her father will not be here to walk her down the aisle.

This Wednesday morning, an inter-ministerial meeting will be held, to take decisions on King Constantine's funeral rites...[/url]

Do you happen to know what an "interministerial meeting" is? I don't think I've ever seen that term used before.

I do not question the information, although it is not official, the bad things are unfortunately true. RIP. I have greatly admired King Constantine of Greece, I have collected magazines, books... I have really liked his life. I am very sorry for Queen Anna Maria, she loved King Constantine very much, they were very close.... I feel sad for Anne-Marie.

Sad news. May he rest in peace. Condolences to Queen Anne-Marie, his family and friends.

I would imagine that the Danish and Spanish royal families will attend. I wonder if King Charles will attend. He and the late King were close friends and cousins.

I would imagine the Swedish King and Queen will go too. They have always been invited to major royal events in Sweden and Carl Gustaf and Anne Marie are 1st cousins..

BRF should be well represented given the close links to the GRF through both Prince Philip and Princess Marina..

Condolences to his family.

I expect QMII will attend the funeral, not only because it's the funeral of other (former) monarch but also to support her sister. (Edit: I just realise this means the three Danish Princesses have lost their husbands now.)

Spanish royals would also be there, he was Queen's Sofia's brother after all.

KCIII is said to be close with him and he's also William's godfather, I wonder whether both will attend the funeral (leaving Anne and Edwards as CoS) or only one of them will go.

I believe that the British Royal Family will also be represented, perhaps by the Earl and Countess of Wessex, or Prince William who was the godson of King Constantine.
But members of other royal families must also be present.

This is ostensibly Anne-Marie but there is beautiful music and obviously a lot of Tino in the second half. If anyone happens to know the piece, would you tell me? I've looked at length and been unable to find it anywhere. Thanks. https://youtube.com/watch?v=Cw6_gMRh9UQ

Within a few hours, I think, that the Danish Royal House will issue a statement declaring his death, it will be published on the web, and profiles of the Royal House, at that moment it will be official, his death, even the moment ..... Regarding the funeral, it will be private but with the assistance of representatives of Royal houses, although this will have to be determined by the family, who might want an intimate burial, this could be this week.

Now are three widows.. :(

Rest in Peace King Constantine. My condolences and prayers to his family.

We don't know how big the funeral will be allowed to be, but it would be beautiful if both KCIII and PoW can attend.

But what's certain is the attendance of QMII -and her sons- and Princess Benedikte. Felipe + Doña Elena and Doña Cristina, if Juan Carlos traveled all the way to London for QEII then he will surely do the same for his brother-in-law.

Edited because I forgot about the Infantas.

I'd guess Felipe and Juan Carlos will be there to accompany Doña Sofía. Leonor will be 18 this year so Felipe should take her with him, since Letizia is not precisely welcome.

Leonor is in Wales studying, she certainly won't be attending this funeral.
King Felipe VI is expected to be present at the funeral, and I believe Queen Letizia as well. As for the presence of King Juan Carlos, it is likely that he may be present.

I edited my message because I had forgotten about the Infantas, they will must likely attend their uncle's funeral, so there's no need for Leonor to go. Letizia is not precisely friends with that side of Felipe's family, that's why I'm *assuming* she won't go.

IMO the Danish Royal Family will be there including QMII, CP Frederik, CP Mary and depending on scheduling maybe Prince Christian. If possible, I do believe at least Prince Joachim will be there (again, depending on scheduling). Princess Benedikte obviously will be there for her sister and maybe one or more of her kids as well. Honestly, IMO the Danish and Spanish royals are the most important attendees apart from the Greek royals.

At least one of them will need to be in Denmark; so, it seems most likely that Mary will need to remain home as Margrethe and Benedikte will want to support their sister and hopefully both Frederik and Joachim will travel to Greece for the funeral of their uncle.

I imagine that from the Netherlands Prince Constantijn will go. He was the King's godson.

I feel deep sadness for the Greek Royal Family, especially for Princess Theodora for not having her father around her on her wedding day.

May Constantine rest in peace now!

Oh no..I honestly believed that the crisis had passed and that the king was improving.

But of course no one is shocked by this news.

I am saddest for Anne Marie. He was the one and only love of her life from the time she was a young girl.

I was very impressed by him after seeing several documentaries with him speaking about his life. I found him quite lovable, and it is a sad day for all the family.
I remember him saying when asked what his favourite moment was, he replied; " The day of my engagement."
He was close to Queen Elizabeth as well and he tried to help Prss Diana.
The Greek sailing community will miss him, as he was a huge supporter of their Olympic team.
A lovely man whom the Angels will take kindly into their care.

His late Majesty was Prince William's godfather?

His late Majesty was Prince William's godfather?

Yes, he was.

Most news websites are all running the same obit from kathermiri newspaper, which is a pretty backhanded piece that dwells on his political failures of the 1960s and the long aftermath of them. It misses what was the more interesting thing about Constantine; the way he was able to create a meaningful and happy life for himself and his family following those failures and in a way, rise above them. True, his family connections played a big part in his ability to do so but very few other deposed kings in the twentieth century managed this. Despite all the disappointments and setbacks, it was a life very well led. RIP

I couldn't agree more. The beautiful family he and Anne-Marie created, and the beautiful relationship he maintained with his sisters through the years, are a testament to his character. He could have been a resentful , depressed man, but he wasn't. He lived his life beautifully and with a glee in his eyes.

It depends on how big a funeral they plan, but my bet is Margrethe, Benedikte, Frederik from Denmark. Mary stays home as regent, no mention of Joachim. Maybe Benedikte's son and daughters. (Wouldn't surprise me if Margrethe skips it, though.)

From Spain: Felipe, Letizia, Cristina, and Elena. Maybe Juan Carlos (how is his health?)

From England: Prince William or Princess Anne (and Tim Laurence). Maybe Prince Michael.

From Sweden: King and Queen, plus Victoria and Daniel or some of the king's sisters.

From Norway: Depends on how Harald's health is. Maybe him and Sonia. Otherwise Haakon and Mette Marit.

From the Netherlands: Beatrix, Constantijn, and Laurentien.

From Jordan: King and Queen. Possibly some other Middle Eastern or Asian representatives.

No guess on Belgium, Liechtenstein, or Luxembourg. Albert of Monaco would have known Constantine from Olympics stuff, so maybe he'll attend.
