it looks like letizia has decided she wasn't going to wear a mantilla anymore to these kind of events, ever since she became queen... such a shame, as it is part of spanish tradition and one of the only occasions where we see royal women in one.

It's been said before in discussions here on the forums that
1. The wearing of a mantilla at these events was started by Queen Sofia and isn't an old tradition. A picture of Queen Ena in normal (for the time) daywear was posted by someone
2. Mantilla and peinetta is something associated with some regions of the country and isn't part of the traditions of the rest of Spain.
