Billed Bladet informs us: Billed-Bladet - Dronning Margrethe rejser på juleshopping
That Queen Margrethe on Sunday will go to England for a few days. She usually is at this time of year, where she is Christmas shopping in London.
She picks and buy the Christmas presents for her staff personally while there.
She will also attend a dinner with officers, NCO's and enlisted men of the Princess of Wales Regiment. The article states that QMII is patron of the regiment, that is nonsense, she is (honorary) colonel of the regiment.
I believe the regiment is called The Buffs, please correct me if I'm wrong.
While QMII is in England, Frederik will be Regent.

I just came back from London. What a weekend... with a big suprise. On Saturday i was looking for christmas presents at Harvey Nichols. After a lot of shopping i went to the Fifth Floor Cafe there, because the restaurant is very expensive. And then i can´t believe my eyes. In the row at the cash point a nice old lady stand in front of us... Queen Margarethe:-). So London is always good for a suprise.

Cool! Did you speak to her? I know that's technically against the "rules," but I don't think I could have resisted the opportunity!

I think it might be against protocol to speak unless spoken to, but I'm not sure? However, I'd definitely break protocol and say hello or something brief. I don't think most of the royals would be at all displeased about that.

What a wonderful positive shock , biathlon22, I think we can all easily imagine
how you felt. I don't think it she would mind if someone kindly greeted her (it's
surely preferred instead of a speechless staring), but if a Queen is in front of
you in a queue, you can of course not tap on her shoulder in order to greet her
- THAT would be against the protocol...

At least i hope i was not staring . No, i think i was one of a few people who regonized her. I smiled at her and she smiled back, which was very kind of her. But i wasn´t able to say hello, maybe because of the shock .

I know how it is When I met Per Thornit at Amalienborg, I hope I wasn't staring too much, but I think his wife noticed that I recognized him

The exchange of smiles sounds rather nice. I would be so shocked I actually don't know what I'd do - I'd probably end up doing something really stupid! However, I'm only in Europe for a week or two every couple of years, so the situation is unlikely to occur for me!

and I am glad you did not spoil the surprise by letting on what HM was purchasing! No doubt a Christmas present for a lucky recipient as Harvey Nicks is a fabulous store!

Translation of Q&A in Billed Bladet #49, 2010.
Where a Marianne Carlsen as why QMII is always wearing a handbag over her shoulder. Her husband believes it contains an alarm.
Jon Bloch Skipper replies:
I have in fact managed to find a number of pictures of Queen Margrethe without a bag. But as you have noticed she usually carry one. Why? Presumably for the same reason as so many other women: (*) to have for example money, make up, handkerchiefs, cigarettes, keys, and other personal items at hand. (**) I cannot say whether the royal handbag also contains an alarm. On that PET, which is responsible for the safety of the Majesty, is very reluctant to disclose informations. It's therefore not unthinkable that your husband is right. On the other hand the Queen is always under close protection when she is in public.
Jon Bloch Skipper.
(*) What kind of question is that to ask a man? Men have absolutely no idea why women insist on carrying a suitcase with them at all times. It's a complete mystery to us.... Which is of course why the gentlemen mentioned here assumed that QMII's bag has to have a practical function.
(**) Notice how Jon Bloch Skipper is getting out in the deep end here. Like all other men, he presume that the main purpose of a bag is to carry objects. And like other men, his mind go completly blank, when women begin to talk about bags matching shoes, ocassions, coats and so on. We simply cannot comprehend it.

I don´t think that QMII is caring money with her. I have heard that it´s only when they are living at Caix that she carries moeny with her. Otherwise it´s the L-i-W who is paying

Might be that the bag works as some kind of communication system like for Queen Elizabeth

Sternchen, don't do that to me!
Now I have images of QEII holding her bag up to her ear.
Not to mention how her call is recieved in the other end: "The old bag is calling us, sir..". - Sorry, couldn't resist.
