Now are three widows.. :(
This just dawned on me you are correct. Perhaps she will spend more time in Denmark with her sisters after things have settled.

I imagine, and expect, that she will spend a lot of time in Denmark. As it was long ago, now again, its just the three sisters. I am so happy they have each other, and their families, to support them.

Most news websites are all running the same obit from kathermiri newspaper, which is a pretty backhanded piece that dwells on his political failures of the 1960s and the long aftermath of them. It’s deeply unfair to HLM as it misses what was the more interesting thing about Constantine; the way he was able to create a meaningful and happy life for himself and his family following those failures and in a way, rise above them. True, his family connections played a big part in his ability to do so but very few other deposed kings in the twentieth century managed this. Despite all the disappointments and setbacks, it was a life very well led. RIP

I’m not well versed on the GRF, so that is very nice to read.

Now that all three sisters are widows, I believe that Anne Marie will spend more time with them in Denmark.

Sad that he didn't live to see Theodora married. Rest in Peace.

It depends on how big a funeral they plan, but my bet is Margrethe, Benedikte, Frederik from Denmark. Mary stays home as regent, no mention of Joachim. Maybe Benedikte's son and daughters. (Wouldn't surprise me if Margrethe skips it, though.)

Margrethe was extremely fond of Constantine. I can't imagine she wouldn't go.

At Henrik's funeral, Constantine was barely able to walk – definitely not unassisted – and he still insisted on bowing to his coffin which was an extremely poignant moment.

AM might get into a Dilemma : If she keeps living in Greece for the rest of her life there are barely any family members to support her because N and T don' t have children and in particular T travels a lot around the world during the year but if she reinstalls in Denmark let' s say for some ten years depending on how long she' ll outlive C she might get in trouble if she claims to get buried next to Constantine when the time comes.

Queen Dowager Noor of Jordan may go to his funeral - ahe and late King Hussein were befriended with King Constantine and Queen Anne Marie.

May He Rest in Piece ! He passes away in the Country where he was King. Queen Anne Marie was a devoted wife since years.
Pavlos and Marie Chantal left Greece for New York , wil they come back to Greece as King and Queen ?
Of course not. Greece is a republic since half a century!

Why would that have any impact? She was his wife, she is a former Queen of the Hellenes - certainly she cannot be denied of being buried next to her late husband some day!

At least one of them will need to be in Denmark; so, it seems most likely that Mary will need to remain home as Margrethe and Benedikte will want to support their sister and hopefully both Frederik and Joachim will travel to Greece for the funeral of their uncle.
For Prince Richard they made an exception and everyone went so i think they should do the same for Constantine.

It might be the wrong occasion to finally give Counts Nikolai or Count Felix a call

Very sad news and may King Constantine Rest in Peace.

Pity that Prince Christian is not yet 18.

We don't know how big the funeral will be allowed to be, but it would be beautiful if both KCIII and PoW can attend.

But what's certain is the attendance of QMII -and her sons- and Princess Benedikte. Felipe + Doña Elena and Doña Cristina, if Juan Carlos traveled all the way to London for QEII then he will surely do the same for his brother-in-law.

I'd expect a large Spanish and Danish turnout for the funeral and imagine there would be representatives from other royal Houses.

His Majesty passed away
A King who truly loved His country and was fought by the left wing in the parliament.
Long live King Pavlos II

I’m sure Queen Anne-Marie have her own friends in Greece and don’t need her children or in laws constantly around to escort her…

If she is as fond of Greece as she says, i can’t imagine she would swap the greek climate to the danish permanently… Maybe during the summer but not during the winter

Queen Frederika was allowed to be buried next to her husband in 1981 despite not living in Greece since 1967 and the Royal Family only being allowed back for 24 hours for her burial…
Ofcourse Anne-Marie will be allowed to be buried wherever Constantine is

As long as we don't know what the conditions of the funeral are, you can't speculate who will attend or not.

The presence of members of royalty, especially if they are Heads of State, requires organization and security organized and paid for by the Greek government, so everything must be negotiated. Although now the situation and the relationship are more normalized, it does not seem that the Greek government wants to make this funeral a royal great show.

But Heads of State could also attend in private. At the funeral of Queen Frederike in 1981 there a few Head of States and high ranking royals attended.

And many of them are close family members and extended family ,sister in law, uncle and so on.

I see no harm in speculating who may attend as its not written in stone!

Exactly An
There is a Royal Family of Greece, but there is also the Family of Royals!!

5 from The Netherlands I expect:

Princess Beatrix
A friend since youth days and a former monarch herself

The King and Queen Máxima
There is a close friendship with the Greek royal family, with regular visits when they are in their Greek estate. And it is the farewell of a King, usually attended by "colleague Kings".

Prince Constantijn and Princess Laurentien
King Constantine was godfather and namesake of Prince Constantijn and did attend their wedding as well.

About the funeral the decision of the government :

"The meeting held at the Maximos Palace regarding the funeral proceedings of King Constantine has been concluded. Regarding the funeral of the King, in an inter-ministerial meeting under the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the following were decided:

- The King will be buried as a private,
- Burial will take place near his ancestors in Tatoi,
- In consultation between the government and the family, the Church in which the Exodus Mass will take place will be determined, (It is worth noting that according to government sources, if the Diocese of Athens is chosen by the royal family, there will be no public procession.)
- The government will be represented at the funeral by the Minister of Culture and Sports, Lina Mendoni,
- All the procedures provided by the Protocol for the officials from abroad who will attend the funeral will be observed."

"ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE DEATH OF CONSTANTINE II from his family

It is with deep sadness that the Family announces that Vasilevs Konstantinos, beloved husband, father and brother, passed away yesterday, January 10, 2023, while being treated at the 'HYGEIA' hospital.
A further announcement will follow regarding his funeral procession and burial.
Personal Office of Vasileos Constantine, Former King of the Greeks"

Heads of State and members of the reigning royal families never make totally private trips... they always need to inform the authorities of the country they are visiting because they must guarantee their safety.

Frederika's funeral was private and in a place closed to the public, and the family's visit was limited in time. Organizing the funeral was extremely difficult, and the Spanish government and King Juan Carlos himself had to negotiate with the Greek authorities.

In Spain, the problems and negotiations that have been necessary with the Greek authorities for Sofia's visits to her country are well known. The first State Visit of Juan Carlos and Sofía took decades and was negotiated down to the smallest details.

Now relations between the Greek Royal Family and the country's authorities are more normalized, but given what the government explained today, it is clear that they want something discreet.

From Spain: Felipe, Letizia, Cristina, and Elena. Maybe Juan Carlos (how is his health?)

From England: Prince William or Princess Anne (and Tim Laurence). Maybe Prince Michael.

From Sweden: King and Queen, plus Victoria and Daniel or some of the king's sisters.

From Norway: Depends on how Harald's health is. Maybe him and Sonia. Otherwise Haakon and Mette Marit.

From the Netherlands: Beatrix, Constantijn, and Laurentien.

From Jordan: King and Queen. Possibly some other Middle Eastern or Asian representatives.

No guess on Belgium, Liechtenstein, or Luxembourg. Albert of Monaco would have known Constantine from Olympics stuff, so maybe he'll attend.

I would expect Prince William to be the one to represent the BRF at the funeral of King Constantine. He may well be accompanied by Princess Anne.

A disgrace, ignoring a significant part of the Greek history, and opening up to hysteria as they are afraid to annoy Syriza, what heroes....Not!

Send their minister of culture??Instead of what,a clerk...Good,let her take a bucket and some brushes and clean up the Tatoi cemetery first!!

Proud of their history...my foot...Ignoring it!

I agree, the President and / or the PM of Greece should attend.

My thoughts too…. This sounds more like it will be a last act of humiliation for a man the greek state have never missed a chance to ridicule….

A pity when it could have been a respectful demonstration of a not so small part of the greek history. Like it was done in Romania when King Michael died and in Austria when Crown Prince Otto died…… What are the greek government so afraid of after all these years ? ?

No,of all on the list above, there will be just a limited number.

This is Greece, ignoring it´s history, not a developed country with an open mind towards history and ditto arrangements in the case of the last rites to a Monarch. At all.A disgrace, but it shows the true colours of what they call their present government..Mitsotakis,pick up this glove and behave as an PM,not a little boy afraid in a corner..

Why on earth do they make everything so darn political!!??..

God Bless the Greek Royal Family, and the wider Family of Royals.

Given how much mischief and grief the Greek left has caused over the past century the caution many have toward them is not unjustified. That said, I suspect that the family may well not have wanted a state funeral - it doesn’t feel like what the late king would have wanted and sometimes it’s best to let sleeping dogs lie. Greece has bigger issues and state funerals a lot more can go wrong - keeping it small and private means less trouble from protesters and other loonies.

That said something similar happened when Umberto II of Italy passed in 1983 - the then Italian government ignored the funeral for fear of annoying the communists and most involved in the decision to do so now regret it and consider it a mistake. I wonder if the Greek government are aware of this?
