I would think MT knows English b/c she lived in New York for a few years, but its been a while. She visited the school as a royal duty thing b/c she is part of this big charity organization.

Note: Grand Duchess Maria Teresa has dark hair on these pictures! But as a child she had brown hair and in the early 90s her hair was rather blonde. So certainly she dyed her hair.


Most of these pictures are in the unpractical bmp size and so they are not shown immidiately as pictures. Excuse me!

Although it was a cold day with grey sky and drizzle, the hearts of the audience was warmed by the view of such a wonderful wedding of Heridarity Prince Henri and his beautiful wife commoner Maria Teresa on 14th February 1981, the day of lovers.

You know that after Henri married Maria Teresa on 14th February 1981, his sisters Margaretha (march 1982 with Prince Nikolaus of Liechtenstein) and Marie-Astrid (6th February 1982 with Archduke Carl-Christian of Austria) married in 1982. Is that a coincidence?

Perhabs Princess Marie Astrid met Carl-Christian on Henri's wedding or Margaretha met Prince Nikolaus on one of the two weddings before.

maybe, maybe not. on a previous thread, there was talk of josephine-charlotte being the mother - in - law from hell. perhaps her children wanted to get away from her around the same time b/c the same thing happened in my dad's family with his sisters; 4 of his older sisters got married around the same time, roughly 2 to 3 weeks apart, just to get away from their parents whom they considered then, and still do now, above and beyond overbearing and stuffy.

And I would say that the young lady on this picture is her sister Catalina and the old women is Maria Teresa's mother!

Just ut of curiousty HSH, how do you know that Josephine-Charlotte objected because of the mulato background? I never heard that story, only that Joe used to have problems with ALL her children-in-law (esp. poor Helene Vestur) and that in the beginning of the marriage she was quite welcoming to Marie-Theresa and had persuaded her husband to accept the marriage.

I have actually heard it was the other way around - GD Jean persuaded Josephine-Charlotte We may never know.

J-C was considered the closest to her youngest son, prince Guillaume, and his marriage was the one she was the happiest about.

I have pics of the engagement somewhere in my archives: Maria Teresa in a Chanel suit after a photo shoot outside the palace where she wore all brown blouse with French tie and skirt.She was very charming and a refreshing change. I wish she had done more to keep her figure.Always have admired her.Ihave to find the pics.This is quite a love story.God Bless the two of them.

In the pictures of Maria Teresa and Catalina as little girls, they seem to have reddish hair. And in one of the teen pictures of Maria Teresa the same. The only one of her children who has reddish hair is Sebastien. Of course lighting in picture taking may change the color.

Attached is a picture of Maria Teresa and Henri when they were courting. Maria Teresa is so pretty in that picture that its not hard to see how Henri fell head-over-heels in love with her.
