Princess Haya Bint Al Hussain, wife of His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, inaugurated the Dubai International Humanitarian Aid and Development Conference (DIHAD) in her capacity as Chairperson of the International Humanitarian City in Dubai on March 28, 2011.

This year’s theme is “New Technologies: How they Impact Humanitarian and Development Operations”, which is about how humanitarian and development efforts are affected by technology.

Speaking at the conference, Princess Haya said “Technology is mostly male and men have greater access to it than women.” The Princess, who is also a UN Messenger of Peace, said “Whether you are talking about something as simple as a mobile phone or a comlex mainframe computer in the developing world, men would have greater access to it but our targets in humanitarian aid are far more likely directed at women and children who remain outside the circles of technology and market capitalism.” Princess Haya addressed an audience of international organizations and associations in the humanitarian field.
