Is this a yearly campaign? I vaguely remember the Princess launching something similar last year (or the year before?) and she traveled around the country and to Denmark.

It's a long term program that has not been fully launched until now.She traveled to Denmark to learn about their Early Childhood Education programs.

Fantastic! I am very proud of The Princess of Wales for dedicating a lot of effort on this program. She has definitely earn her place as a leader and a champion for early childhood! Very proud of her!

She didn’t take shortcut, she actually put on the work!
 
She's very brave to take this issue as her big/major project because it will take huge dedication in a (very) long time to show any result which also hard to quantify. It's basically chosing to be a housewife/homemaker to care for the kids instead of having career, it's for life and lot of hard work but then when people ask what you've achieved (well brought up kids, etc), nothing you've said would be count as achievement because it's a supporting role, unlike achievement such as winning a contract or promoted to be manager for the latter.

While for William's project (United for Wildlife, Earthshot, and maybe later the homeless-related one), it's easier to show the results by showing numbers, this Early Years is not. And we know how the recent trend are most people expecting instant (quantitative) result so by sticking to the Early Years issue it will be gruelling battle for her to shed the "lazy Kate/Duchess Dolittle" stigma her naysayer would keep throwing to her direction.

Why did she choose Leeds (located in Yorkshire)? It's because of the City Council's 2012 decision to allocate funding, time and energy to their children and their families. The quoted portion is from the DM article linked in the above post. IMVHO this is why the Early Years/Shaping Us campaign is so very important.



The Princess chose to visit Leeds today as part of the city's ongoing ambition to become the best place in the UK for young people and children to grow up in.
In 2012, the city launched Child Friendly Leeds with the belief that by investing in and supporting children, young people and their families, the whole city will see immediate and longer-term social and economic benefits.
Leeds City Council, working with partners to deliver enrichment programmes to improve outcomes, has seen a safe reduction in the number of youngsters being taken into care, more teenagers going into education, employment and training, and better school attendance.

The Prince of Wales has launched an ambitious five-year programme Called #Homewards to prove that it is possible to end homelessness in Britain.

The Prince of Wales is set to*unveil a plan to eradicate homelessness, as he makes it his life’s work to ensure that “everyone has a safe and secure home”.

Homewards is an ambitious programme that aims to put six pilot locations on a path towards*ending homelessness within five years.

Homewards will use the Royal Foundation’s convening power to bring charities, local authorities and social services together to create “systemic change” and focus on preventing homelessness, rather than placing people in temporary accommodation.

The focus will be on providing permanent homes, meaning that each location will be expected to deliver an innovative housing project. The Royal Foundation will pump an initial £500,000 seed funding into each area.

It will help create local coalitions of those already working on the ground to boost understanding of specific issues and how to overcome them, providing access to experts and, crucially, to financial backers to unlock new ideas and drive further investment.

Prince William, who wants to make the fight against homelessness one of his lifelong missions, will kickstart the Homewards programme today with a two-day nationwide tour of the six locations, which will be revealed only as each one is visited by the prince.

The tour, which starts in London, will include inner cities, coastal resorts and post-industrial areas.

A video called Homewards Hero has been released as part of the launch featuring William and people who have experienced homelessness, including Tyrone Mings, the Aston Villa and England football player; Fara Williams, the former England player; and Sabrina Cohen-Hatton, the chief firefighter and writer. Each of the six locations were selected by a national expert panel after demonstrating the ambition, potential and ability to tackle homelessness in the area.

Local coalitions of people, organisations and businesses will be created in each location to work on a tailored action plan to end homelessness, including solutions such as improving connections between services or focusing support on at-risk groups.

Groups will also be able to deliver innovative housing projects under the plans to test new ways to unlock homes at scale. Each location will be able to access support and advice from Homewards’ national partners.

Locations should be on a path to ending homelessness for good by making it rare, brief and unrepeated at the end of Homewards’ five-year commitment. The project’s ambition is to then make this “business as usual” around the UK and beyond, the Royal Foundation added.*

He may visit Northern Ireland but royal visits there are not announced in advance for security reasons.

I do hope he has been talking to Charles about this as he has been involved in practical solutions for decades with The Prince's Trust and The Duchy of Cornwall.
 
This is a fantastic initiative! I am so proud of how much upfront work and research both prince and princess of wales do for their projects! Great foundation for success!
