The Nobel Prize 2013 - 2023

I can't say that I like Victoria's dress from the second night at all.

A tribute to Japan? Interesting. Is there a better picture of the bow on the back somewhere?

Not from the back yet, but a side view. The dress is much more interesting than you might have thought from the first photo. It is great to see that Victoria didn't have safe choices in her dresses this year, but had totally different style dresses than normally.

Sofia's dress looks much better today. Does anybody recognise the brooch in her hair?
The tiara choices of Victoria, Madeleine and Christina could have been a bit more original as they wore the same ones yesterday.

Best dressed: the two ladies in Japanese traditional costume. The royal dresses were ok but nothing special IMHO.

I'm not a Sofia fan, but I have to disagree with other posters -- I don't think that her gown shows too much cleavage. It's fine .... not fabulous, but fine.

Like last evening, I think Maddie takes the prize. She looks fabulous and is glowing!

i am not overly excited about tonight's dresses unfortunately. they are OK, but nothing to jump up and down. my favourite is actually victoria, i thought she looked the most regal in that shade of blue.

I think everyone looks fab--Madde looks regal and star-power-wattage. Silvia looks regal and bright. Victoria takes chances and is a modern princess, and I love it. Sofia's styling is so gorgeous, I can't stand it (her hair is sooo amazing).

Sylvia is too old for that garish red. Sofia looked lovely. Victoria's gown was great if you didn't see the back, which was awful. Madde look lovely, too.

The queen looks okay, red lace is not doing her too many favors though. Not liking CP Victoria's gown tonight. It's just off. Madeleine's dress is nice. Don't like her hair down though. And I actually like Sofia's dress tonight. Nice cut that fits her well and her hair is lovely.

The queen, Victoria and Madeleine look nice,
Gallery, will be updated.

Now that I have seen a side/back picture of Victoria, I must admit that I don't particularly like the dress of Victoria. Probably necessary to see the real thing to get a fair idea of how it looks like.

Svensk Damtidning writes this week, that the king's decision about the new seating order at the Nobel ceremony wasn't about the lack of space at the stage, but that the king has decided that now and in the future, Victoria and Daniel will be most at the focus. The way Victoria was dressed and the way she looked, she is more and more preparing to be the queen. At the Nobel ceremony it was Victoria who was at the focus. It didn't matter that it was Sofia's debute or Madeleine's comeback. And queen Silvia had taken a step backwards and let her daughter be at the limelight.

Svensk Damtidning had also noticed like I did, that both Victoria and Daniel drank tea at the banquet, not coffee. The Nobel confectioner Daniel Roos told already before the Nobel day, that about 100 people had asked for special meal and Victoria was one of them, she has lactose intolerance.
Svensk Damtidning even writes that at the banquet Carl Philip and Sofia talked mostly with each other, which isn't according to the etiquette and it is not very nice towards their table partners.

I would stick to my fiancé too, if I only had one. Etiquette is nothing for me.

Sofia's table partner was the Speaker of the Parliament, the man second in rank order in Sweden after the king. One would of course hope that the prince and his future wife would follow the royal etiquette. Carl Philip's table partner was the wife of one of the Laureates from Japan. What kind of PR that is for Sweden, if a member of the Swedish royal family doesn't speak with his table partner?

The Nobel Prize concert 2014 video has been put to the official website, the king and queen arrive at the beginning.

That is exactly what I thought too. The dress of Victoria contributed too to focusing on her and her husband. V&D looked quite pleased about it as well, as shown by their hand holding, at some point. Somehow I thought they regarded as a further step ahead for them to be able to sit on the same row.

Exactly so.

Does anyone know why Victoria did not attend the event?

Victoria continued her studies at an internship with the Swedish Trade Council, first in Berlin and then in Paris the whole autumn until Christmas 2002. She stayed in Paris and didn't attend at the Nobel events.

The Nobel Prize 2015

It's early but the 2015 Nobel events are set for December 10. The Prize winners are:

The Nobel Prize in Physics 2015
Takaaki Kajita and Arthur B. McDonald "for the discovery of neutrino oscillations, which shows that neutrinos have mass"

The Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2015
Tomas Lindahl, Paul Modrich and Aziz Sancar "for mechanistic studies of DNA repair"

The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2015
William C. Campbell and Satoshi Ōmura "for their discoveries concerning a novel therapy against infections caused by roundworm parasites", and the other half to Youyou Tu "for her discoveries concerning a novel therapy against Malaria".

The Nobel Prize in Literature 2015
Svetlana Alexievich "for her polyphonic writings, a monument to suffering and courage in our time"

The Nobel Peace Prize 2015
National Dialogue Quartet "for its decisive contribution to the building of a pluralistic democracy in Tunisia in the wake of the Jasmine Revolution of 2011"

The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel 2015
Angus Deaton "for his analysis of consumption, poverty, and welfare"

At the Nobels the SRF escorts a person into dinner. Is it a winner or a dinner guest? Also they sit apart as if each person acts as a host/hostess to the group of people they are sitting with. Is that the case?

The gowns and tiaras will be interesting.

Do you think that Prince Carl Philip, Princess Sofia, Princess Madeleine and Christopher O'Neill will be seated together with King Carl XVI Gustaf, Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel? Or will they be seated seperate like the last year?

The Nobel Peace Prize is delivered in Oslo.

Last year Expressen wrote that the court and the king, in consultation with the Nobel Foundation had thought that eight members of the royal family at the stage would be too much.
Margareta Thorgren said then: Yes, it would simply be too many and that is why this decision has been made. Now it will be the head of state, the queen, the heir to the throne and the prince who represent the royal family and the family at the ceremony. Everyone feels that it is important that the prize winners are in the focus.

It would be really odd if they now would put eight people to the stage again - regarding what Thorgren said last year, it would look that the prize winners aren't so important anymore.

So I hope that the seating order will be similar than last year.

At the process to the banquet queen Silvia is always escorted by the Chairman of the Nobel Foundation.

Well,I find this disposition to be perfectly right! Last year it worked!

I quite agree, the seating order worked well and makes sense. Also it would look strange if the seating order were changed every year.

The seating order worked, but it would be nice to see the Prince Couple seated on stage though.

The only thing i would change at last years seating Order is to place the Crown Princess Couple in a row with the King and Queen and not behind them.

I've seen older pictures of the Nobels where Lilian sat in the same row as the king and queen. Perhaps because the immediate SRF was small at the time (for the adults). Last year's seating order was fine for keeping the focus on the winners. The winners should be the main focus by the press, but you know there will be sidebar stories, like the battle of the baby bumps between Victoria and Sofia, or a made up feud over who wears which tiara from the Bernadotte vault. The biggest dishing will be on the gowns.
I loved Victoria's tomato red ball gown from 2014:

Silvia's gown was my next favorite(I don't recall the year) She wore the Luechtenburg. Nice contrast:
