I notice the Queen has worn gloves each day, which she hasn’t done previously for Royal Ascot- well not in the pictures I have seen from recent year. It must have been quite hot wearing them but I’m guessing like with the Garden parties, her formal wear as Queen now demands this. I don’t think it’s just because of the number of hands she shakes as there are many other engagements when she greets many people without wearing gloves.

I’ve wondered too, why the gloves. I don’t believe other royal ladies wear them routinely?

It is possible that Queen Camilla is following Queen Elizabeth’s unwritten rule for herself, to wear gloves to minimize the chance of catching germs, as QE would shake hands with so many people. Years ago, in an interview QE explained why she wore gloves. I wonder if wearing gloves also kept QE hands from hurting.
