The Princes travel to Sofia
MARIÁNGEL ALCÁZAR - 10/02/2006 SOFIA
The princess Letizia passed yesterday the first night far from her daughter, the infanta Leonor, from the birth of the girl last October 31. One week after recapturing her official obligations, dona Letizia travelled yesterday to Sofia (Bulgaria), where the Princes of Asturias will preside today at the inauguration of the Institute Cervantes. Though the aim of the trip has a marked cultural accent, the presence of the Princes in Bulgaria, country that aspires to be admitted into the European Union on January 1, 2007, it has turned into a political event of the highest level since Spain is one of its principal allies in the community aspirations of the Bulgarian Government. Proof of it is the dinner that the president, Georgi Parnavov, offered last night don Felipe and dona Letizia. Today, the host will be the prime minister Sergei Stanishev, who will support a meeting with don Felipe. In Sofia, besides, the previous prime minister lives,
Simeón of Saxony, who possesses the king's title for it having been of right when only he was a child. During more than forty years, Simeón lived in Spain and his children are intimate friends of the Prince and the infantas.
Last night, in a Sofia totally covered by the snow and with 15 degrees under zero, dona Letizia dress a thick black coat of cloth to be protected from the low temperatures. Before going out of the hotel, she did several called Madrid in order that her daughter heard her voice for telephone.
