English Royal House article: Queen Sonja Print Award 2018 - The Royal House of Norway.
The Queen Sonja Print Award is the world’s leading award for graphic art, and is presented every second year. The Award was originally a Nordic prize with the first awards given to Tiina Kivinen, Finland in 2012 and Svend-Allan Sørensen, Denmark in 2014. In 2016 the prize became international and was awarded to Tauba Auerbach, USA.

The winner receives a cash prize of NOK 400,000 and a residency at the Atelje Larsen art studio in Helsingborg, Sweden. The award seeks to generate interest in and promote the development of graphic art.

English article by Oskar Aanmoen: Queen Sonja hands out namesake Print Award in London – Royal Central.
On Thursday evening, Her Majesty Queen Sonja of Norway handed out the Queen Sonja Print Award 2018 to Emma Nishimura in the Royal Academy of Arts in London. The artist Emma Nishimura was born in 1982 and lives and works in Toronto, Canada. Her work includes both traditional etching, drawings and art installations. Works by Nishimura are found both in public and private collections and have been exhibited nationally and internationally.

From the DM article in your above post:
The Queen was on fine form today as she met up with the King of Norway, the morning after he attended her party at Buckingham Palace to celebrate Prince Charles’ 70th birthday.

The pair greeted each other warmly at the The Naval and Military Club in St James’s, London, with King Harald V kissing her on each cheek and then on the hand.

He said: ‘Thank you for a nice party yesterday ’. ‘I’m so glad,’ replied the Queen enthusiastically, and the pair chatted warmly about the previous night’s events.

The Queen was heard to say how much ‘Charles had enjoyed himself’.

‘He looked like it,’ the king replied.

His wife, Queen Sonja, who was also at the bash, had been due to accompany her husband to this morning’s engagement.

But he explained to his royal host that she simply ‘didn’t feel very well this morning’ and had decided to stay ‘at home’.

A spokesman for the Royal Court of Norway also confirmed that she was unwell but said there was no cause for alarm.

BTW: The court told NRK (the state-owned Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation) that the Queen is back on good form, and that she went out for lunch with the King in London later in the day.
While HM himself told them (NRK and other Norwegian reporters) that he was impressed by QEII's health: ''Hun er i kjempeform. Det er helt utrolig. Hun er over 90 år'' (''She's in great shape. It is completely incredible. She is over 90.'')

And tomorrow, His Majesty (also at The Royal Palace) will preside over the Council of State - and give 4 ordinary audiences, so quite a busy week for him.

And doesn't she look great, this 81-year-old energetic Queen of ours. ?

Detailed English article by Oskar Aanmoen, with several photos that he has taken himself: Queen Sonja handed out the Queens School Award 2018 – Royal Central.
Upon departure, Her Majesty had a short meeting with the press. Royal Central’s Senior Europe Correspondent Oskar Aanmoen was present and asked Her Majesty a question. Aanmoen asked: What does the queen think has been the best with the visit today?

Her Majesty answered:”That is a lot. It would be a long story. However, I think it is to see all the activities that were shown in the sports hall. It is so varied and so funny. Here are challenges for all possible things you may have in your head, or in your legs or arms. It has been very, very nice visit.”

About Queen Sonja's School Award - from The Royal House-website.
The award is presented to a school that works actively to promote equality and inclusion and meets the following criteria:

  • The school takes a long-term, systematic and knowledge-based approach in its efforts to ensure an optimum learning environment for its pupils.
  • The school promotes inclusion and equality in such a way that each individual pupil feels appreciated in an environment that cultivates co-participation, security and community spirit.
  • The school is characterised by the positive relationship between the pupils and the teaching staff, – and by the close cooperation between the school and the home.
The award (on 250 000 NOK) was first presented in 2006 after the initiative of the Queen herself - and is administered by the Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training. One or two candidates are nominated by the Office of the County Governor in each county.

If I recall what was written on kongehuset.no calendar prior to a couple of hours ago, Mette-Marit was originally scheduled to attend this. I remember thinking that her first engagement wasn't until the 17th and we wouldn't even get pictures!

Well, hopefully we'll see her on the 28th.

Sure its be being dense, what does that mean? Has there been an election? or reshuffle?

It's not just you, tommy100. I, too, was trying to figure out what this meant. We'll have to wait for RoyalNorwary to enlighten us.

1. That's correct, yes! - But as I wrote in ''The General News and Information for The NRF'' thread, her attendance at royal engagements will be based on her day-to-day form.
Which is why the court (to avoid speculation if she has to cancel) usually waits until just minutes before large-scale events to add her to the official calendar, such as they did for The Nobel Peace Prize celebrations back in December.

2. And when it comes to the board meeting of The CP-Couple's Foundation on January 28th: Well, we probably won't see her anyway, since it will most likely take place at either The Royal Palace or at Skaugum, where photographers are never allowed inside for events such as this.
Although, the court (or the foundation) can publish a photo of it on Instagram, as they did for the Official luncheon for The Supreme Court on January 17th and The Prime Minister's audience with The King today. - But with the exception of two or three times, they usually don't do so for a Foundation-meeting.

Royal Norway has written several very interesting posts regarding the developments leading to the government reshuffle in the thread here: http://www.theroyalforums.com/forum...he-norwegian-monarch-43060-4.html#post2188478
Haven't had time today, but will try to write about it tomorrow or on Thursday (in that thread). ?

Other engagements inside The Royal Palace:

Earlier in the day, The King granted an ordinary audience to The Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Queen was also in attendance. (No photographers allowed in.)

And tomorrow, February 1st, he presides over the weekly Council of State. The Crown Prince will also be in attendance.

Well, our sports-mad King has attended the first of his two day-stay at The Norwegian Championships in Cross-country skiing (the biggest sport in Norway) at Grova Ski-Center today, which is situated in Meråker municipality (link to English Wikipedia article) in Trøndelag county (link to English Wikipedia article) in Central Norway (link to English Wikipedia article).

It was televised by NRK1 (the state-owned Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation's and Norway's largest TV-channel) from 10:00 to 11:15 (for the female competitors) and from 12:45 to 14:45 (for the male competitors).

And the charismatic 81-year-old folksy monarch was in great spirit as usual, hugging the winners and everything. - If the photos (which will be added as they are published by Scanpix) don't show, click on them more than once:

Arriving at the Ski-Center (his first official visit to Meråker BTW), where he was greeted by The President of the Norwegian Ski Federation, Erik Røste; Committee Chair in this year's Championships, Bjørg Sissel Kvannli and two children who were picked out to give him flowers:

He looks like he's having a lot of fun. I love the photos the Court posted on Instagram with him and winners.

(I do have to say, I'm quite disappointed no one in the family attended the speed skating championships happening in Hamar. This is only because my Canadians are doing quite well! )

:previous: Was this a team sport or did they just happen to tie? How did all three win ?

Thanks Iceflower & Eya! :flowers:

And yes, from competing as single competitors yesterday to relay teams today.

Televised by NRK1 from 10:55 to 12:00 (for the females) and from 12:15 to 14:25 (for the males).

And The King seemed to have another fun day out in the cold. - If these additional photos don't show, click on them more than once:

With the female winner-team, Oppdal IL:

https://scanpix.no/spWebApp/preview/editorial/td915fcc

https://scanpix.no/spWebApp/preview/editorial/td916bc9

And now this ''amazing'' monarch of ours (due to a whole bunch of reasons, which I've written about in various threads here over the years) can take a well-deserved break until February 5th, when he will have another engagement outside The Royal Palace.
