Christening of Prince Oscar: May 27, 2016

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I was able to see the moan part of the service before going to work. What a good baby! Why was Mary the only one to curtesy to the king is it done differently in Denmark.
And finally,Estelle waving to her cousin when they are both shown to their little chairs was priceless! As was the look on both the king and queens faces when Lenore was first put down to sit her chair in the chapel. Like she would explode! Two year olds!
I look forward to catching up later

Estelle, Leonore, Nicolas and last but not least Oscar were so cute at the christening. My son has said that he want the toy, Prince Nicolas had played with.

A nice picture was taken when Princess Madeleine put the water in the bassin and Princess Estelle was near her. A short time later Princess Victoria had Princess Leonore at her arms.

Princess Estelle with grandmother Ewa was so heartwarming. The Westlings must be very very warm and very very heartly people.

The kids were so adorable. I love the pic with Maddie and Estelle, across from Victoria and Leonor at the water. Such a sweet pic of the 2 sisters an their 2 daughters. :flowers:

Oscar was such a sweet baby today. He really did look like his sister.

I loved the pics of Estelle with both grandmas. But the one with Ewa stole my heart. Estelle definitely knows how to steal a show, but she did have some competition, or at least company this time, with Leonor. Loved the two little girls in their chairs.

Will we get some official photos like Estelle's??

Glad I finally got a pic of Dan holding his son. Had to see the Malina post. First time for Daddy holding him, been Mom so far.

Thanks:flowers:

The third pic, where Dan Has Oscar up and pointing across the way, boy does Oscar remind me of his sister at her christening even more. :)

Daniel is such a proud daddy any time you see him with either kid.

Even in that third photo Estelle and Oscar have the exact same expression around the mouth :flowers:

Everyone who posted comments and pics: thank you very much, i didn't get to see the event itself, so your posts were great to follow!

:flowers: Love Estelle with her Westling grandparents. She seems so close to them. Grandpa Olle definitely looks very proud.

I am disappointed that Guillaume hasn't been chosen as a godparent, I am not terribily excited about Mette-Marit as a godmother either, but I guess ithe chosen list is OK.

Why, please, aren´t you "terribly excited about MM as a godmother"? She herself a very doting and loving mother, she is the perfect choice and I´m thrilled about that.
Besides, Haakon and Mary were godparents to Estelle, so it is only natural to choose the spouses for Victoria´s and Daniel´s 2nd child! And Haakon/ MM have always been great friends to Victoria and Daniel - don´t know if the bond to the Luxemburg RF is that close?!

Not sure its 'natural'. Often if you have a lot of people to honor, if you have chosen one half of the couple, you may not choose the other. Guillaume and Victoria have been said to be close in the past as well, which is why some people were hoping to see him as godfather. I don't think anyone is disappointed in MM, simply perhaps hoping to see someone different honored like Mathilde, considering Victoria is to Eleanor.

It was lovely and warm christening. I'm so happy that the cameras are allowed inside the church and this way we can be part of the ceremony as well.

Maybe they will honor them with possible further children.

Although I was absolutely wrong with my guesses (I was only with Princess Madeleine right), it feels right for me. Victoria has said that Frederik and Haakon are for her like her brothers.

Princess Madeleine's impressions on the christening:

Considering a combination of Victoria being 39 years old this year, and the age difference between her kids (whether by choice or trouble conceiving), I don't think Oscar and Estelle are likely to have a younger sibling.

I know that the Church of Sweden allows any Christian who has been baptized according to the Trinitarian formula to be a godparent, but I wonder if the fact that Guillaume and Mathilde are Catholic might make them less likely choices to serve as godparents of a Protestant Swedish prince/princess.

I don't think the Scandis have a problem in general with naming Catholics as godparents. Felipe is godfather to Ingrid Alexandra and Vincent.Maxima is Sverre's and she is Catholic. Isabelle has Mathilde. Josephine has the catholic Duke of Castro. Certainly Victoria has been happy to serve as godmother to Catholic royal children, I don't think she would see religion as a negative in reverse IMO.

From what I understand, the bond between MM and Victoria is the closest comparing the other royal ladies you name.
I would have loved to see someone from the greek royal family as a godparent. That would have brought them back on the map a bit more again. Prince Constantine Alexios, known within royal circles as "Tino" and godson of CPss Victoria, would have been great, for instance!

Thank you to all those who shared the photos and videos of Oscar's christening today! I like the list of godparents, they weren't too surprising but very nice and well chosen all the same.

Oscar is such an adorable little one! He seemed to be quite well behaved during the service, too. Estelle is charming, as always and I loved the point of the video where she started to wave, that was a cute moment. Leonore and Nicolas are beautiful children. Leonore did seem to get quite bored during the service, however I can imagine that for a child of her age, the service would seem rather dull. In one photo I saw of him, Nicolas appeared to be holding a toothbrush, which I thought was really sweet, I wonder where he got that from? :D

It seemed to be a lovely service and I enjoyed the music and the hymns.

It was a beautiful ceremony, and I liked that we saw a bit of Estelle's close relationship with Daniel's parents.

I watched it on Danish TV 2, because (this time) their coverage was far better than the Swedish/Norwegian.

Watching the video now, Oscar was pretty good with the water, until they held him up after for all to see. He doesn't seem to share his sister's love of the spotlight

Leonor has definitely inherited her cousin's spirit. She was a handful for Chris and Madeleine at the wedding as a wiggly baby. The toddler doesn't seem to have grown out of the phase :ROFLMAO: I loved Nicolas' glowing toothbrush to distract him.

Just re-watch the christening video and notice that in Sweden, people don't bow, curtsy to the king and queen as much as in Denmark? (the STV video at about 0:40 when the king and queen arrived)

Several monarchies have done away with bowing. Sweden basically has. The exception being to foreign monarchs. Notice both Haakon and Mary bowed/curtseyed to the king and queen. If any foreign heads of state had been in attendance, Victoria and her siblings would have bowed.

With Mary and Haakon it was more their custom that they bowed. Silvia and CG would not expect them to. It likely seems a foreign concept to Mary who has to bow her own mother and father in law, not to bow to a foreign.

Bowing to royals remains standard practice in the UK, Denmark and Spain. Belgium and the Netherlands have basically done away with it. In Sweden, bowing is rare, but it happens sometimes. The Court staff for example still seems to bow frequently.
