"Kongeord" [A King's Word] 2024, by Frederik X of Denmark and Jens Andersen

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Well, I already have written a brief summary and translated a few quotes.

I would need direct quotes from the book or the book itself, which I haven't gotten around to buy yet. My mother-in-law has devoured hers and liked it.

And finally, I have already postponed indefinitely the portrait book about QMII. I hesitate to make more promises. :ermm:

What I will do, once I get and read the book, is that I will write a review - and if there is an interest, I will scan the book, with the text.
And then people can either request a translation from me or someone else or do an AI translation themselves.

Muhler, you're the best!! :flowers:?:flowers: Thank you. I/we appreciate it.

Thank you Muhler, I look forward to reading your review.

?

Well, I've ordered the book.

And since it's shipped from Copenhagen by the postal service it will loaded on a camel shortly. And the caravan will depart one of these days. Unfortunately the caravans by Post Nord are usually led by blind guides with no sense of direction. But I should have my book at some point in the future. :D

Whoever came up with the brilliant idea of privatizing Danish Royal Mail and relaunching it as Post Nord really deserve a knights cross. The result is that today in 2024 a letter from one end of Denmark to the other now takes longer than the average delivery time in the 1600s! No kidding!
There are rheumatic snails in our garden who could deliver faster than Post Nord. They are probably more intelligent as well... Looking at some of the mailmen, I'm convinced that Homo Erectus has not gone extinct, they have all been employed by Post Nord.

Post Nord was faced with the problem that no one sends letters anymore, so what to do? Got it!
Let's increase the price on stamps by almost a thousand percent. Reduce the days when letters are delivered from six days a week to whenever-we-can-be-bothered.
And while we are at it, let's throw away a few percent of the parcels and packages or simply don't deliver them even though the recipients are home all day, sitting on their mail-boxes under a flashing neon sign saying: I'm home!

Oddly enough, this ground breaking strategy doesn't appear to have attracted more costumers. I can't imagine why. :ermm:

Oh, did I ever tell you that I have a slight issue with Post Nord?

Can you scan the text and put it through an AI?
Or painstakingly write a paragraph or two and put it through Google or an AI?

Suggest you start with the captions.

Man... I just can't wait until we can have these books translated by the AI with no issues. Theres so many great books that is waiting to be read but its not in English!

But as the saying goes, "If there is a will, there is a way!" I honestly never even know "AI translator" was even a thing!

We sure are getting closer!

Even Google translate is getting very good now.

But there are of course still phrases, sayings and references that AI struggle with.
Like "bjørnetjeneste" it literally means bear-service. And it means something that is means as a favor but cause more problems than it solved.
Example: I help my neighbor getting their firewood into their shed in their backyard, by loading it all on my trailer and driving it in my four wheel drive across their pristine well-maintained lawn.

I got the book at 50 DKK discount, because I waited three weeks before ordering. - That so much warms my Jutlander-heart. :D
Did I ever tell you that we in rural Jutland have a dear and almost inseparable bond with our money? No?

Anyway, it's an easy and quick read depending on how much you wish to reflect over the text.
No illustrations and no pictures.
You don't need strong reading glasses to read the book! The reason for that is that on each page where King Frederik "speaks" are listed the previous Danish monarchs, some 50+ of them - and their proverbs, if they had any that is known.
That little detail was very obviously missed by at least one book-reviewer. Hence the reason why the book is "stretched" to encompass more pages than is strictly necessary. - But again, it makes it much easy to read and as such can reach a wider audience and perhaps that was also the intention.

The book is divided into six chapters.

The first a personal brief summary of his early life.

The second is a reflection of his predecessors. - It's clear that he has studied them and reflected on them and perhaps even analyzed to some extent their time and the problems they faced.

The third and fourth chapters are about the reasoning behind the first two words in his proverb. - And here we/I learn that King is deeply conservative. In the Danish (I dare say almost party-political) definition of the word. I will describe him as a progressive, deeply conservative, humanist. I.e. someone who is and feel a deep connection to his roots, his faith and his country and his people or in his case people(s) - because he also feels deeply connected to especially Greenland. He is deeply patriotic and feel it's okay to be patriotic so long it doesn't go overboard of course. He also believe strongly in charity, compassion, duty and responsibility - for and by all.

The fifth chapter is basically a pledge that he and Queen Mary will be the Regent Couple of the whole Kingdom.

The sixth chapter is perhaps the most anticipated here in DK, because that outlines very roughly how they, repeat they, will approach their new role. It's almost written as a speech.

- In this book I see the man, Frederik, having come to terms with his future and is ready to take on, even embrace his role and be King Frederik.
It's a man who is a peace with his destiny. A man who is solidly anchored in the ground. And a man who is confident that he - and his wife - will handle the challenges ahead.
It is also man who has done on awful lot of reflection and thinking.
It is also a man who has found his God, in his way. QMII found God especially when she became Queen, and to her it meant that she was not alone in facing the many challenges.
I think that in Frederik's case God has become a part of his rock.

We should of course wear our critical glasses while reading this book, because this is of course meant as a positive presentation of King Frederik and as such it does not cover controversies that are not already contained. Like a strict childhood and the fact that PH was never approved as Rigsforstander etc. These things are mentioned and acknowledged but also glossed over.
- No surprise there either.

So to sum up:
Chapter one: Hi, I'm Frederik.
Chapter two: My predecessors.
Chapters three-five: I've been thinking.
Chapter six: Bring it on, we are ready!

I will end this review with two quotes from the book. Perhaps some here might find the second quote applicable.

"No king without a queen and in all thoughts, ideas and visions behind my King's Word you also find Queen Mary.
She can thank herself for that. Mary has been created into the role that to some extent has been build up by herself, because she is a woman of her time. She is attentive to all the changes that the world is facing and she is organized in her mindset in regards to where and how she wish to be and support me as Queen. There she and I have build a parallel track."

"It obligates to be a Monarch and one of the most important things in my function is consideration and love for my fellow beings. I am King for all who lives in Denmark and Greenland and the Faeroe Islands, and - you might add - people who feel Danish in their minds, whether that is in Canada, Costa Rica, Australia or Southern Schleswig."

-------------

What I'm going to do now is to scan the book, chapter by chapter, and upload the links here in this thread. That may take a week or so.

Later on I might write a deeper review of each chapter, or I will select some quotes I find speaks to me or I find interesting and translate them here. Because the whole book is basically one long quote. It's all in first person.
Or I will comb the book for trivia, that at least are unknown to me and post them here.
But no promises, no disappointments.

I certainly appreciate the work you're putting into this, Muhler! What a wonderful person you are. :)

Thank you Muhler. Really appreciate your efforts.
Love these two quotes :flowers:

Thank you Muhler! Really appreciate you buying the books and translating them for us non-Danish members.

Comments to chapter six.

FX talks about management on page 104-105. Something he has clearly learned about and been inspired (perhaps advised) by some of his friends who manage often very large businesses. He says he and Queen Mary together have introduced and implemented modern management principles in their own court and intend to introduce them in the whole court. And that means a more direct hand in what is going on.

"Also in a royal court management is about setting the course and create result together with others. That is something that interest both my wife (formal word) and me to such an extent that we already while being a crown princely couple introduced modern management-principles in our own administration and daily work. As Regent Couple (*) we will also be in the *engine-room*. That organizational aspect of the monarchy is important and we would like to optimize that."

(*) The correct term is now "king-couple", but I will continue to use Regent Couple because it sounds better and to avoid confusion.

I interpret that as the DRF court becoming oldfashioned in the way it was run under QMII - and perhaps lacking direction as well? That is sure something I have suspected for the past year or so!
I also interpret this as FX wishing to reduce the distance between the director (FX himself) and the employees. I.e. a more flat management style, which is normal in DK.
The DRF court is mainly led by people with a military background and I guess there is a clear chain of command, which is of course the most useful management structure in the military.
- It is perfectly normal for someone on the floor to discuss problems and issues, come up with suggestions or being asked for advise by the top boss himself here in DK. Apart from being useful and shorten the time between problem and solution, it means the boss has his the finger on the pulse and people on the floor feel they are being heard.

Thanks Muhler! I really love reading these two quotes and their mindset on how more modern management should work and will be implemented to the extent possible now in the new reign and that F&M will be more involved in the day-to-day handling of certain things.
