The statement of the Royal House website

Guests at HM the King's jubilee celebration
At the celebration of HM the King's 50th anniversary on the throne, a number of Swedish and foreign guests are present.

Foreign guests
For the anniversary weekend, all the Nordic heads of state and their spouses are expected in Stockholm. The Scandinavian heirs to the throne also take part in the celebrations, as does the King's cousin Queen Anne-Marie.

HM The Queen of Denmark, DD.MM. The King and Queen of Norway, HE the President of Finland and Mrs. Haukio, HE the President of Iceland and Mrs. Reid, DD.KK.HH. The Crown Prince and Crown Princess of Denmark, DD.KK.HH. The Crown Prince and Crown Princess of Norway and HM Queen Anne-Marie are visiting Sweden at the invitation of DD.MM. The King and Queen on 14 and 15 September.

Swedish guests
During the anniversary weekend, the speaker and prime minister couples and the ministers participate in parts of the festivities. The jubilee banquet will also be attended by representatives of culture, academia, religious communities, business and the governors.

Guest lists are published on kungahuset.se in connection with the implementation of the events.

I wonder which grandchildren of the royal couple will attend the festivities.

I'm incredibly surprised that it's only Scandinavian royals attending. A golden jubilee is a huge celebration and I fully expected many foreign royals to be invited.

Disappointing, last year in Denmark, this year in Sweden

And I think that the first time that Carl Gustaf celebrates his reign jubilee, in opposition to Daisy, who celebrated her 25, 30, 40 and 50 years at throne

The King celebrated his 25th and 40th Jubilees as well, perhaps not in the extravagant way we see this year.

In 1998 he celebrated during the National Day with a large reception for about 2000 guests at the Royal Palace. In September there was an Official lunch for the Riksdag and Government.

In 2013 the King and Queen made similar visits around Sweden as we see this year, and we also saw the introduction of the Sweden Dinner. On 14th September the Government hosted a dinner at Nordiska Museet and the Riksdag a concert on Konserthuset Stockholm. On 15th September there was a Te Deum with the Nordic Heads of State attending, followed by festivities on the Inner Courtyard hosted by the City of Stockholm. In addition a large exhibition, opened by Princess Christina, took place in the Hall of State at the Royal Palace.

On the contrary there were large celebrations in 1998 to celebrate the King's first 25 years on the throne.
The King has later said that the moment during the jubilee celebrations when he greeted the large crowds on Norrbro below the Royal Palace was one of the happiest moments of his life.

And there was me wishing the Princess of Monaco hadn't organised her waterbike challenge for the same weekend as the Jubilee, turns out she wasn't invited anyway, LOL.

I think the King wants the focus to be on Sweden and therefore isn't hosting many international guests/royals. This isn't a personal celebration like a birthday- but more of an institutional celebration of the monarchy and Sweden over the past 50 years. I think it makes sense for him to only have the Scandinavians as guests given their close historical connections.

Margareta Thorgren, the Director of the Information Department, to Svensk Damtidning about the Jubilee banquet on September 15:
- There will be more than 300 guests. But we can't give an exact number yet, we won't know until next week.
- The royal guests arrive on Thursday, September 14.
Do they live in the Palace or in a hotel?
- We don't communicate that.
And what is the dress code?
- At the jubilee banquet, it is formal dress - that is, white tie
- And at the gala performance at Drottningholm Palace Theatre the night before, the dress code is black tie. Then the evening ends with a supper at the Drottningholm Palace.
Will we see the royals on the dance floor - like at Victoria's wedding?
- No, this is a Jubilee banquet, so there will be no dancing.

At the episode "My Friend the King" at TV3's documentary "The King's Innermost Circle" (Kungens innersta krets), the people see sides of the King never seen before.
With the gang on a cliff by the Mediterranean Sea. Among the luxury yachts in a Greek marina. And during a happy evening at a gentlemen's dinner at some chateau.
Glimpses of the King's private life are seen at the documentary, told by his childhood friends Michael Odevall and Johan Beckman.
They don't just talk about their friend the king - but also about the private club they have together: Croketklubben - or The Royal Swedish Lawn Croquet Club.
- It was probably the year after graduation. Then some friend said that we must come up with a formula, a tool to meet. And then the Croquet Club was formed. The purpose of it is to see each other five or six times a year and play croquet. It's serious so of course we do our best to win these games, and there's a challenge cup for every game. Most of us have known each other since 1953-1960, so we have been together for quite some time. Four of us have passed away. There will be no re-elections. We decided that the last two get to share the cash and go to Paris, says Johan Beckman with a smile.

I agree. Even the abstemious British had foreign royals visit for the 2002 and 2012 jubilees!

Very disappointing at the guests only being limited to Nordic royals, what a let down!

Agreed, especially as this is the first Swedish monarch to have a golden jubilee.

It is disappointing but I think I get why. As I understand it it's not just Nordic Royals but also the Nordic Heads of State that are invited.

Maybe it's not diplomatically possible to invite the other European Royals without inviting also the rest of the Heads of State of Europe?

Proper decision by the King. His jubilee should be a celebration for his people, not a worldwide royal jamboree.

If so that's something new given that it's been done many times before.

Information officer Ulrika Näsholm from the Royal Court's Information department said to Svensk Damtidning about the guest list (many royals missing)
- The jubilee is a state affair to which the Nordic Heads of State are invited.
She continues:
- At other celebrations, such as weddings and birthdays, the guest lists may look different - for example with other royal houses represented.

I thought that maybe this is seen like a more "State-like" event, not like weddings or birthdays, that are of a more private nature.

Why Hänt is spreading fake news?

The Dutch Royal Family should attend, as well the Presidents of Finland and Iceland

The PR of the Royal Court was clear, ONLY the Scandinavian Heads of State, the heirs and their respective spouses would attend

Article

From TV4's News morning, 4th September. Some clips of the documentary "Tronen" are shown, the King and Victoria are interviewed.
"Crown Princess Victoria about the clip: "The pulse goes up"
In the documentary series "Tronen" the Swedish monarchy and the royal family's historical heritage are depicted. Here, Christian Arnet, producer, Jenny Alexandersson, royal reporter and My Hellsing, historian, talk about the series and about the royal family's challenges."
Kronprinsessan Victoria om klippet_ ”Pulsen går upp”

At TV3's documentary "The King's Innermost Circle" (Kungens innersta krets), it is told that the king did not have an easy time at school. Because even though he finally graduated from high school, the road there was a bumpy one.
The king suffered from dyslexia. According to some of his closest friends, the struggle to read was not something he talked about openly. His friends testify in the SVT documentary "Kungens innersta krets" about how their friend often sat and studied focused to overcome his difficulties.
- He didn't talk about it, says friend and diplomat Michael Odevall.
The difficulties continued into adulthood. He was often helped by his closest older sister, Princess Christina.(..)

Christina was also very during one of the most important moments in the king's life. In 1973 king's grandfather Gustav VI Adolf had just died. When the king stepped out of Helsingborg's hospital, it was the first time he met the people as king.
The king talks about the moment in TV4's documentary series "Tronen". Both he and Christina get to see a clip of the incident in question.

I am curious why Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar are standing while Prince Carl Philip's older sons and Princess Madeleine's daughters are seated next to the King and Queen in a more central position in the picture.
