It WILL have its fans, but I cannot say i'm amongst them..
She could easily pass as the Receptionist..

 Indeed. This smashing-looking tuxedo dress I think goes to show that Meghan is feisty and unpredictable. She has been dutifully wearing conservative-length hemlines for quite some time. And now at an evening event, when we would expect a longer gown, she's flashing her gorgeous gams, with Harry's delighted approval surely.

I'd like to get better quality pics, but I guess we won't since the lighting is dark in the theater. Negative naysayers can go sit in the corner. With this look, I think Meghan is saying, 'Here I am. This is who I am. I shall not be moved.' *

Going forward sartorially, there should be more unpredictable fireworks. Everything right now is a work-in-progress. Meghan looks edgy and adorable. And it is a minimalist look, which is her style, as we saw with her choice of wedding dress -- no bling.

Agree 100%. :flowers: Wonderfully minimalist look. Not one single nod to her 'Hollywood Red Carpet' past. Complainers regarding anything Meghan can't do a gotcha on that score. ;)

She has been dutifully wearing conservative-length hemlines for quite some time.

Quite so! :flowers: Meghan is not going to rock the boat. There will be no 'look at me' fashion moments. She has already 'done that' as an actress.

And now at an evening event, when you'd expect a longer gown

I was, I admit, but here we are with this and it is so right-on. :flowers:

Yep, great legs. :flowers: People continue to be slaves of photographs, I think. (Always give 30%-40% margin to RL impression, maybe even tipping 50% especially when lighting and angle get in the equation).

I love the look. Meghan looks great, ready to work, and is absolutely glowing.

Not a fan of this look. It's way too short....proportionally off for her body type as well. A miss for me ..hope we don't see it again.

It looks to my eye like her clutch may be a repeat from the CW Celebration at Royal Albert

I'm sorry if this is offensive to anyone but it's the best way I can describe it. For me, the outfit makes it look like she's about to show up at someones front door with tiny lingerie on or nothing at all. The trench coat reveal kind of look. I just don't find it suitable at all. I could easily see Rachel Zane in this outfit, with some leather look leggings.

It's far to short, frankly for anyone let alone Meghan. I also hate the fact it's black. It utterly boring, please Meghan wear a colour for an evening out!

I really do not get the pearl clutching about this by some. Maybe I am a hussy but I would absolutely wear this length and have. Including my sheath dress for work today.

Personally I do not get why some think the dress is too short. But to each their own. I think the length is fine. It's called variety, imo. Sometimes a longer length dress can look to stuffy and aging.

I do wish she would go for variety in her choice of colors. Not black all the time and I love an good LBD. Also, I wish she would have at least worn a little gold chain necklace.

This would have been a good time to do a colorful heel, agreed. Or to do this dress but in Oxblood or purple.

But the black is classy and versatile

Oxblood and purple would work so well with her skintone!

Not surprised she isn’t wearing a long gown since it’s a wrapping up beat American stage show:

I still would have expected something longer, if not an evening gown. Lin-Manuel's wife (apparently that was his wife) was in maxi-length attire.

I believe you are right. It looks like the same celestial gold clutch.

Okay, I LOVE it. It's stunning and suits her beautifully. Just the perfect look for an evening out at the musical.

I reckon it'd also look great with her hair open in soft curls(alá Ireland reception)

Meghan looks like herself exactly. And her legs are toned and unstockinged too. ?

I'm waiting to see how long it takes the protocol articles to show up.

Is there really that much of a different between sheer stocking and no stocking? Seriously? The woman has legs and she showed them going to theatre.

I'm not find anything overly flashy here. How dare she wear something edgy.

(..) I reckon, that this was her spin on the 'tuxedo' wear. I assume this means that we will be getting 2 dresses for the other events. I'd say one long gown and one traditional cocktail dress.

Those complaining about the color or simply suggesting more or different (gold chain, different color dress and/or shoes, etc), it's Meghan making her own style choices. And sure it's fun to debate her choices, but at the end of the day, what we see is what we get. And that's pretty darn exciting and special after the summer vacation downtime away from public view.

I'm going to sit back and relax. We'll be seeing M&H again next week, and likely more public happenings throughout September. Harry's b'day is on the 15th. And then Eugenie's wedding October 12.

M&H's South Pacific tour will surely hold some sartorial delights. :D

Not mad about it I think its a tad too short ,great hairstyle on the duchess.

I definitely think a more traditional evening gown will be in order for the 100 Years event.

I see a more cocktail dress type for WellChild. I am hoping in a bright color because a darker color would look so out of place at WellChild to me.

.

The thread has been cleaned up. This is a thread for the Duchess of Sussex only. Not one about the Duchess of Cambridge or other royals. Please refrain from comparing and stay respectful towards the people you discuss. The so called "body shaming" is completely inappropriate.

Well, for the most part, this sums up what I think is wrong with Meghan’s outfit tonight.

Meghan looks amazing. I love this outfit. I can't believe people think it's boring. I love Meghan's style and I hope she keeps it.

It's a sophisticated look with sexy edge to it. And yes, they can both exist, and a royal woman can wear such clothing.

Here are more pictures inside the theater with Lin-Manuel, et al, laughing and talking before they sat down to watch the show apparently:

Meghan is looking rested, comfortable and happy. I like the look the more views I see. And carrying a different version of the exquisite gold celestial clutch (this one gold and black) works beautifully. That's enuf amazing bling all by itself. Meghan's style is truly deep, like a bottomless well of simple, natural surprises.

Hmm, my style tag for the Duchess of Sussex/Success: Ineffable Chic :flowers:

I always love a good blazer dress. I'm here for this look. It's sexy, but without overdoing it. Nice job.

This dress is also a good price point too. Not too expensive but still good quality.

also a good price point too.

That IS 'something', at least not too much was spent on so 'office wallah' a vibe...
