I just can´t understand, why the rules have suddenly changed now with Carl Philip and Sofia, when comparing the situation to where Daniel, Emma and Jonas were.

Taking a more thorough look at the kind of life-long attempts of this royal girlfriend to become a celebrity should make it completely nonsensical to equal her past with the biography of CP Mette Marit.
I'm quite surprised that it appears to be fine with most that Miss Hellqvist uses appearances of Carl Philip to flaunt her royal girlfriend status to the media at public functions like hardly any other woman in her position has done before.

I agree, LadyFinn. And Boris' post identifies the difference/center of criticism with Sofia. With some of the other girl/boy-friends who eventually married into royal families fame is something that only happened after their relationship/marriage. For example:

Mette-Marit - the one that is most often compared with Sofia. Nothing in her prior life suggests she sought fame. It came along with her relationship with Haakon. She even had to publicly acknowledge her mistakes and "apologize" in the press conference before the wedding.

Mathilde - was probably the "most acceptable" of the current crop of princesses. Well-mannered, intelligent, educated, stylish, etc....but none of her actions demonstrated a desire for fame. Quite the contrary as she seems to be the most quiet of them all.

Daniel - perhaps struggled the most publicly with the attention prior to the wedding and perhaps endured the most criticism/ridicule for his alleged "shortcomings" as a possible prince. Since then has demonstrated the most professionalism, poise and commitment to his spouse and duty, even if completely outside of his life-goals before.

Diana - like/hate her, she endured the most scrutiny and attention of any and was one of the first in this generation to recognize and use the media - not always correctly but most effectively for others.

Letizia - even though she was in the public eye, it never seemed she sought fame or used her relationship with Felipe to further her own agenda, in fact the world knew nothing about her relationship until the engagement announcement. She seemed more concerned with being a journalist than famous.

And all of them, even though criticized initially were accepted not only because people in general believed that they made their royal spouse happy but because people believed that these individuals would enhance the royal family or at the very least not be a detriment to the monarchy.

With Sofia it is clearly different - even if there were never any questionable pictures, the true problem and the one which IMO causes the greatest concern is that from a young age she has clearly stated a goal - to be famous. The nude pictures were just one poorly-chosen attempt to achieve that. The impression is that she pursued CP not for who he is or because she loved him, but rather because it would provide her with a higher level of fame. Knowing that, people who criticize her may believe that her feeling for CP are insincere. And they may feel that her ambitions and actions are damaging to the monarchy. THIS is the criticism that repeatedly has gone unanswered by Sofia's supporters. Not once has any of them addressed this aspect of her personality. Rather they accuse anyone who raises any criticism of hating/judging her unfairly because of the nude pictures.

Obviously this post and the others regarding Sofia belong in a different thread, but as she has taken to attending official events with CP I replyed here. Again, this has not been done by any others. None of the others attended any official engagements of their royal spouse prior to engagement. Even Daniel, when attending private events with their mutual friends did not arrive with Victoria...and he was the most recent one.

Regarding this thread, I feel that it is irresponsible for CP to have Sofia along on his official events. In addition to taking focus away from the issue/event at hand, I wonder if he gives his full attention/support to that event. Not that I support her or think he should get back with Emma Pernald, but she never did this...probably because she had an actual job and actual life to attend to away from CP...like an actual couple.

No one is trying to actually throw stones at Sofia, but CP as HRH of Sweden has a job, and like all job it has specific requirements attached to that position. One of those requirements is not to marry someone who has a very long record of trying to be famous, via soft porn photos, trashy reality tv show, bragging about making out with a porn star. It just seems way to convenient that the way she decided to reinvent is one that she has to put her self in the spot light over and over again, how lucky for her.
If this is how she acts as a girlfriend when she is suppose to be discreet I don't want to image what it will be like if they actually get married. She has honesty talks to the media more then the royal actually does. If you look at what gets written by the media about the family, most of it is speculation, and second hand quotes (what they say to other people that gets parroted back to reporters) and then look at coverage of Sofia, she actually talks more directly to the media then the family does.
As far as the MM comparisons, MM changed her life around BEFORE meeting Hakkon and that is a big difference between MM and Sofia. Because MM changed before she put into the spotlight we know that it was heartfelt change that she did on her own. And second, no matter what any one can say about MM actions, they were never done in attempt to get herself in the national spotlight. MM actions were things she did with her private life in private, meant to stay private. Sofia on the other hand? Everything she did was to get public attention, and what she does now is meant to get more attention that is a big difference.

This situation just goes around in circles, every time a picture is taken the conversations start up about Sofia only wanting attention, using CP, Carl isn't thinking with his head but another part of his anatomy etc etc, and of course the comparisons to Mette-Marit.

Ultimately, Carl-Philip will decide whether he wishes to marry Sofia or not, presumably if this situation arises he will discuss it with his father who will either accept it, reject it or offer some form of compromise. Until that situation arises, the conversations about this couple will be exactly the same over and over.

I know next to nothing about Sofia apart from her previous career choices.

Given some of her choices I can appreciate some people being sceptical, wary and worried about her relationship with CP.

However, surely CP isn't such a thicko that he is easily charmed by someone who is just out to promote herself. ?

Judging by pictures alone Sofia seems to be a lovely, friendly girl.

I actually liked the picture of her and CP holding that kid. IMO, it made them look really approachable and part of the people.

It's not the first time that royals have allowed themselves to be pictured holding children. !

I completely agree. Prince Carl Philip is surely used to young ladies who are interested in his position rather than person; he must be pretty good at figuring out their motivations. From what I've seen of Sofia, she does appear to be quite a positive and nice person. One who has made very questionable choices, granted, but hardly a gold digger or epitome of vice.

Maybe Sofia has just matured. Her ideas could have done an about face. At any rate, CP is now down to 3rd in line for thrown and if Victoria has another baby he would go down even further. Not much chance for Sofia becoming Queen Consort.

Sofia is hardly more controversial than Mette-Marit of Norway once was - and look what a great job the latter does now! Mette-Marit was also set to become Queen of Norway once, whereas the chances of Carl Philip's wife to become one are extremely low. So I say, live and let live. [/QUOTE]

Sorry?! I think there´s a BIG difference between being a "single mother" and having nude photos being taken and having taken part in "Big Brother" series!
When I see Sofia, instantly this notorious "snake photo" comes to my mind automatically! Not a great advantage for a potential future princess, if you ask me...

for me there's also a difference between partying privately and being a single mum as Mette-Marit was and searching public attention with posing naked and participating in reality shows like Sofia did...then again, I don't know her and maybe she has indeed changed..."in dubio pro reo" I'd say...

I was obviously referring to the fact that both ladies were controversial, not comparing their mistakes to find a "winner".
Sofia has made extremely stupid decisions and she is not my idea of a Princess. In fact, if there were a possibility she would become Sweden's Queen one day, I would have probably been against a prospective marriage as well. But what with Princess Estelle's birth, the chances of Carl Philip to ascend to the Throne are very remote.
As it is, give the girl a chance, just one single chance to prove herself. If she continues to behave in an undignified manner - fair play then.

Love this post.

We've gone over this a thousand times. Comparing Sofia to Mette Marit is nonsensical. No one is throwing stones at her. People are simply stating facts. She loves attention and from day one fame has been on her agenda. She is everywhere with Carl Philip. She's never hidden. Sofia is a woman with a plan.

I'm sorry I get what you're saying, but your post screams naivety.
