King Carl XVI Gustaf's Jubilee Year: 2013

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Thanks everyone for the photos and videos; I enjoyed looking at them. It looked like it was a great Jubilee and I enjoyed seeing photos of all the Swedish Royals together. The highlight for me though was probably seeing photos of Princess Estelle, she's so adorable and I think it's sweet how she has a mini version of the family order. I would imagine that Sweden has been very festive this year; firstly it was Madeleine and Chris's wedding and now it's King Carl Gustaf's Jubilee.

SO I think that has some of the best video from yesterday... it has some awesome footage of CG and S and some more Estelle cuteness!!!

I keep rewatching these videos- I must say we were spoiled with this weekend!! So many fun things happened!!!

What does CG say in the video below starting around 3:15 to the end? I mean if you want to translate the whole thing I would LOVE to read it (I got bits and pieces here and there but nothing that it will make sense) but I am mostly interested in this part :) TACK Sa Mycket!!!

A quick and rough translation of the kings speech, with the reservation that some of it was quite strange in swedish as well :)

"First and foremost, thanks for the lovely words. And dear people of Stockholm, thanks for the fantastic toast you've just given me today. It feels wonderful, it feels warm, and it's something I'll remember for the rest of my life.

As you know (it was mentioned), the queen and I have travelled all over Sweden, from north to south, and visited all counties - 21 of them - and it's been very enriching to me, and I'm sure it's been as exciting for the queen as well. We've had the possibilty to visit and meet many people all over Sweden, and that was amazingly wonderful for us to do. But now we're in Stockholm, and we're in front of the castle, the castle in the middle of town! That's what's important right now.

I would like to congratulate the city of Stockholm, who had the energy to arrange this party and later on the water games, which I understand will come later today. Also a nice addition to guild and create Stockholm, Stockholm at it's best. Stockholm is a wonderful city to live and work in. But we shouldn't forget about the rest of our long and fantastic beautiful Sweden that the queen and I, and many others, have experienced during the months when we've travelled.

But now, dear friends, dear Stockholmers... yes.... we've promised much, I've promised much also during the years, but this is for real: I invite all of you to a music and dance party at the palace courtyard. Everyone is now welcome. Bring your dancing shoes. Cheers!"

Awww he is so sweet and his facial expressions conveyed that he was genuine meaning all this! :) :) they are my favorite royals!!! ;)

Queen Silvia looks amazing in silver green combination

Why the queen must always have these terribly shiny outfits... Daniel congratulated Victoria right after her fine speech.
Princess Margaretha and princess Christina with Tord Magnuson are also attending. And of course Carl Philip, Madeleine and Chris.
There are 500 guests at the reception.

Loved Silvia's outfit, although I'm not a big fan of the shiny fabrics she seems to favor. I wished that both Victoria and Madeleine had selected brighter and more festive colors.

Any idea why only two of the King's sisters -- Margarethe and Christina -- attended?

To me as a Finn the dark colours are the festive colours. Bright colours aren't festive to me. I'm so glad that Victoria and Madeleine chose those.
It hadn't been said anywhere that the king's sisters would attend at every event. Princesses Désirée and Christina attended on Friday and Saturday, all sisters attended on Sunday and now princesses Margaretha and Christina attended today.

It was a good speech, for mostly for her father but also for the king of Sweden. And I'm glad that she remembered her mother also at her speech.

What a lovely way to end the jubilee celebrations!!
i happened to be in stockholm during the jubilee weekend and it was lovely, free flags every where, the palace was open for free on sunday music, dancing, food it really was grand celebration for every one who wanted to participate not just those with an invitation...... while at the gift shop i bought the paper weight as a souvenir of the day

Did u get to see Madeleine and Chris??
i saw them when they were on the balcony every one looked so happy......inside the palace there were too many people surrounding the royals so i couldnt see anyone there.... but every one kept screaming 'estelle!!!' 'victoria!!!' 'madeleine!!!' and lots 'woo's' haha

But mom Silvia highlighted in the speech.
- By your side, you've had our mother. As the Queen and wife, she has tirelessly given you her wise and strong support, says Victoria, who also spoke for his siblings.
- Dear Dad, you are my and my siblings' beloved father, and a very popular grandfather. As monarch is you, Your Majesty, my role model. Once it comes time, I will humbly and proudly bring ministry into the future.

LOVE it..:heartflower:
Amazing speech :flowers:

Looking at some of the pictures with Estelle in them - I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who gets this silly soppy look on their face when she's around! ;)

In connection with the king's 40 years on the throne, at Royal Dramatic Theatre (Dramaten) on the 23rd of November.
For the environment of the times
Actor, experts and establishment in an open dialogue about our future.
This year King Carl XVI Gustaf celebrates forty years as regent. The anniversary commemorated in a different show at the Royal Dramatic Theatre on November 23, starting with the King's interest and involvement in nature and environmental issues. It will be a journey through forty years of environmental issues - from a dazed awakening in the 1970s to today's global climate conferences. A meeting between art and science which talks, plays and musical elements are interspersed with clips from the TV archives. And where we are constantly looking to the future.
The show takes place in the presence of the king and queen.

According to Svensk Damtidning, queen Silvia held a very good and tender speech for the king at the private lunch on Sunday 15th. The king took queen Margrethe to the table and queen Silvia king Harald.

Great and a little different photos, taken by an amateur photographer, who got very close to the royal family. I found these from Fotosidan-website. First there are great photos of the people of Stockholm celebrating - scroll down and there will be lots of photos of the royal family. Click photos to get them bigger.

Estelle is cute, but judging from the pics she comes across as quite bossy and spoilt, used to far too much attention within the family as an only child. I hope that she will have one or two siblings soon to set things straight, the same way it worked for Victoria as well.

I think it was a great idea to celebrate the 40 th jubilee mostly with the people: the county visits all year and finishing with that "party for the people" on the palace grounds. The king and his PR team got it right, Simply brilliant.

Nice pics. And, finally, I found out who the guy in that unbelievable plaid suit was - Pekka Heino! Does he always wear such outlandish outfits?!?!?

52-year old Pekka Heino is a popular television presenter in Sweden, he is a Sweden Finn, born in Turku, Finland. He has been together with a norwegian born producer Erik Kristensen for over 20 years, they registrated their relationship (civil union) in 1997.

How has the king done his work?
SVT news interviewed on Friday Henrik S Järrel from the Royalist Association, deputy chairman Anna Steele from the Republican Association and PR-professional Birger Östberg.

Järrel says he sees the king as a quite modern monarch. As a king he should promote Sweden abroad, he should be a good representant for a little country in Sweden, their people, culture and history. Steele says that when spoken about the king, she thinks all the pomp, all the scandals, parties and a very fine speech after Tsunami. Birger Östberg says that the most positive thing as a promotor for the king is that he is the king. To be a monarch raises interest in many countries.
But how the king is doing as a marketer of Sweden?
Östberg says: oldfashioned, conservative and feels very old.
The reporter says that maybe that is why the king has lost popularity. But there is also another family member who has come to the stage. Östberg says that he thinks that Victoria is seen as much more modern than the king. And he thinks that it is modernity which is really important if you are supposed to market Sweden, because the business life and tourism in Sweden want to be connect to modernity.
According to Östberg there can be another reason why the king has it difficult to promote Sweden: the king's poor management with the media is so comprehensive that Östberg thinks that more and more people are almost ashamed of the king we have in Sweden. And that is a big problem for brand Sweden.
About the abdications in the Netherlands and Belgium, Järrel says that the Bernadottes haven't a tradition to abdicate. But a thought about crown princess Victoria at the throne, frightens one and another republican. Steele from the Republican Association says that Victoria seems very sympathetic and hard-working, and they would have it more difficult to carry through their thoughts if Victoria would be the Queen.
