Naomi Campbell looks less than enthused about being there. LOL. The Marchioness's dress is stunning, though. One bit of advice for her -- if you're going to wear a dress like that, have someone take a flash photo of you wearing it before you leave the house so you can see how sheer it'll be in said photo. She could have done with some pasties...and not the Cornish variety.

Very old British aristocrat died tragically!

The Marquess of Ailesbury, 8th holder of the Peerage (created 1821), died 12 May, 2024, following a fall at his London home. He was 98.

The peer fell out of his window at his home while letting his cat out. He died on impact on a concrete patio. By unhappy coincidence, 86 years ago, his mother was killed falling from a window at the Savoy Hotel.

The Marquess, whose home was in Savernake Forest, Marlborough, Wiltshire, was Marquess of Ailesbury (1821), Earl of Cardigan (1661), Earl of Ailesbury (1776), Earl Bruce (1821), Viscount Savernake (1821), Baron Brudenell (1627/8), Baron Bruce (1746), a Baronet in England (1611), & 30th Hereditary Warden of Savernake Forest.

Michael Sydney Cedric Brudenell-Bruce was born 31 March, 1926, elder son of the 7th Marquess of Ailesbury (1904-1974), and his 1st wife the former Joan Houlton Salter, daughter of Stephen Salter, of Pondwell House, Ryde, Isle of Wight.

Michael's mother, the then Countess of Cardigan, who had recently returned from South Africa, was killed in July, 1937, when she fell from a seventh floor window at the Savoy Hotel, London, where she was staying alone. The countess, wearing an evening dress, fell near three children who were playing in the street.

The 7th Duke of Westminster is really living the life, he's the godson of the current King, and the godfather of a future King, on top of that he has billions.

Anyways to add to my circle of godparents, I believe William will be a godfather to Hugh’s child 100% so it’s gonna be:

Charles —> Hugh —> George
Natalia —> William —> Hugh’s child.

He’s a fourth cousin to William. One of his sisters is married to one of William’s friends from the Van Cutsem family. Hugh works in spite of coming from wealth.

He's a fourth cousin???? can you explain more?

There is a connection between the families through the 'Mountbattens' but I cannot find the '4th cousin' one either because that would require a shared forefather. William's great-grandmother was the sister of George Mountbatten, 2nd Marquess of Milford Haven - who was married to countess Nadedja de Torby; who herself was the sister of Hugh's greatgrandmother, countess Anastasia (de Torby).

William - Charles - Philip - Alice - Louis (Mountbatten, 1st Marquess of Milford Haven)
Hugh - Natalia (Phillips) - Georgina (Wernher) - Anastasia (de Torby) - Michael Mikhailovich (Romanov)
Harry (Mountbatten, Earl of Medina) - George (Mountbatten, 4th Marquess of Milford Haven) - David (Mountbatten, 3rd Marquess of Milford Haven) - Nadedja (de Torby, 2nd Marchioness of Milford Haven) - Michael Mikhailovich (Romanov)

I did the link through the Romanov lines. Plus they both have links going back further to Bess of Hardwick as both of them descend from the Cavendish family.

Hugh and William are actually fifth cousins through their common ancestor Nicholas I of Russia.

Nicholas I > Constantine > Olga Queen of Greece > Andrew > Philip Duke of Edinburgh > Charles III > William Prince of Wales

Nicholas I > Michael > Michael > Anastasia de Torby (Lady Zia Wernher) > Georgina Wernher (Lady Kennard) > Natalia Phillips (Duchess of Westminster) > Hugh Grosvenor Duke of Westminster

Plus he’s related to him via QEQM and Diana, but this is much more distantly through the Grosvenor family. Plus the Duke of Abercorn, who was Hugh’s father’s second cousin was a first cousin of Diana’s father.

The 5th Duke of Abercorn also married Alexandra Phillips who is Hugh's maternal aunt.

The eldest son and heir of Britain's most married (6x) and divorced (5x) peer, is a lay reader (a licensed lay minister; so, someone who is not ordained but is allowed to preach and lead services) in the Anglican church. His wife is an Anglian priest and -since she was made a canon in 2010- the only 'Rev. Canon Countess' according to wikipedia: John Wodehouse, 5th Earl of Kimberley - Wikipedia

During the session of Parliament which is coming to a close, discussions were held on two private members' bills to allow females to succeed to peerages: one bill proposed to allow female succession but with priority for sons over daughters, another proposed equal rights for women. As usual for governments regardless of political party (even though the current Prime Minister supported female succession when he was a backbench MP), the Government declined to support either bill, though it only commented on the first (son-preference) bill.

The debates can be found here.

I think it's safe to say since now the Duke of Westminster is now happily married that now the most eligible bachelor would Louis Spencer, Viscount Althorp. A nephew of Princess Diana and a cousin to a future King doesn't sound too bad.
