The King said at his speech among other things:
This state visit was initially planned for September last year. (...)
King Alfonso also brought with him a most magnificent gift: a large, saffron-coloured carpet with a rose pattern. It is placed in the grand living-room of Drottningholm Palace, where the Queen and I live. With its strong and beautiful colours, it reminds me every day of our long-standing friendship.

About the queens' program today
The Cervantes Institute in Stockholm has held several cultural activities on the occasion of the official visit of the Kings of Spain to Sweden.
The central act of this program, chaired by the Queens of Spain and Sweden, will take place today (11 am) at the Bernadotte Library of the Royal Palace, organized by the Cervantes Institute and the Swedish Institute. Under the Meeting on literature and translation between Spain and Sweden, four experts will address various aspects of the letters of both countries and the translation between their respective languages.
After concluding the discussion, the Queens will visit the Bernadotte Library, where they will be shown some relevant books and objects related to the Spain-Sweden bilateral relationship. A Swedish edition of El Cid from 1859 stands out, which was translated into that language by the then Prince Oskar, later King Oskar II, from a German edition of the work. They will see a diploma to the Crown Prince Karl Johan XIV, in his reception in the Order of San Fernando in 1814; the document that names King Gustavo V Honorary Admiral of the Royal Spanish Navy (1927) or photographs of the state visit that King Alfonso XIII made to that country in 1928.

King Carl Gustaf and King Felipe attended a business seminar, where among others King Felipe and the Spanish Foreign Affairs Minister spoke and the Swedish Minister for Foreign Trade and Nordic Affairs Anna Hallberg attended too. The Kings had a business meeting at the Grand Hôtel during which representatives of five industries from each country held talks based on the themes of the state visit. Then the Kings went the Opera Terrace to the major business seminar.

Daniel is one of the Academy's six Honorary Fellows, the Honorary Fellow medal is the Academy’s foremost distinction.

Wonderful royal history ! The Royal and Military Order of St Ferdinand (San Fernando) is Spain's highest military decoration. The higher grades of the order, namely Knight Laureate Grand Cross and Knight Laureate Cross, are rarely awarded today, so, in 2001, the Spanish government proposed the induction into the order also of the Knights Military Medal to prevent it from going dormant (see Royal Decree 899/2001 ).

I wasn't aware that Karl XIV Johan was a member of the Order of St Ferdinand. Was he admitted for turning against Napoleon in the War of the Sixth Coalition? I would love the hear the full history of that award.

The present King of Spain is the Sovereign of the order of St Ferdinand and, as such, bears the Sovereign's collar. The only other member with collar besides the Sovereign is the Grand Master, who wears the Grand Master's collar. The Knights Laureate Grand Cross (currently, none alive, I think) wear the cross on a sash.

Great to see that both kings are wearing their collars properly: King Felipe with the collar of the Seraphim and the badge of the Golden Fleece on a necklet, King Carl Gustaf with the collar of the Golden Fleece and the badge of the Polar Star (?) on a necklet.

And Queen Letizia, as expected, also became a member of the order of the Seraphim. The other members of the Swedish Royal Family are wearing the pre-announced Spanish orders they received: Charles III for Queen Silvia, Isabella the Catholic for CP Victoria, and the order of Civil Merit for Daniel, Carl Philip and Sophia.

I like the Aquamarine tiara, but I don't think it matches the yellow sash of Isabella the Catholic very well. It would have looked great with the order of Charles III.
According to spanishroyaljewels on Instagram the collar of the Order of the Golden fleece that King Carl Gustav is wearing was worn by his great-grandfather King Gustav V before him. Contrary to tradition it wasn't returned when the King died and the collar remained in Stockholm.

Odd that the Swedes didn't return the collar after the demise of King Gustav V as it is technically the property of the order. The collar is fully coated in gold, which makes it a valuable jewel in itself, and there is actually only a limited number of collars, which are all numbered.

Probably, if they had returned it, it would have gone back to Carl Gustaf when King Juan Carlos made him a knight in 1983.

It must have something to do with the Bourbon exile. Maybe they didn't know who to return the insignia too?

Karolinska Institutet about the visit of queen Silvia, queen Letizia and Victoria yesterday at itsn website:
The purpose of the visit was to talk about how collaborations between the private and public sector, academia and civil society enable research, as well as innovative solutions for inclusion and increased quality of life for people with disabilities and rare diseases.

Driverless cars in focus during a Spanish state visit
The Swedish and Spanish kings got a taste of KTH's research into the sustainable transport of the future during a visit to KTH and the Integrated Transport Research Lab (ITRL).
- The visit can be seen as a receipt of KTH's long-term and successful collaborations with Spanish universities in both research and education, said Sigbritt Karlsson, Rector of KTH.
During the morning, almost 70 people visited KTH. The entourage included, in addition to the kings, Minister for Energy and Digital Development Anders Ygeman and Swedish and Spanish company representatives.

What a difference with the warm Guests welcome by the King of Spain than yesterday by the King of Sweden.
It is fine that the swedish Royals did attend.

These are two different kind of events. Yesterday was the official State Banquet, where the Swedish Royal Court's Grand Master of Ceremonies Ambassador Johan Molander announced solemnly every guest. And Margareta Thorgren, the director of the Press department of the Swedish Royal Court, had stressed out the social distancing at the state visit before the visit began.

Visita de Estado de los Reyes Felipe y Letizia a Suecia - Galería en Bekia Actualidad

The royal court about the second day:
Statsbesöket från Spanien fortsätter - Sveriges Kungahus
Translation

Stig Kvarnryd and the company Flagghuset Europa AB in Åkersberga have had busy days before the Spanish state visit to Sweden.
- We are one of the few who manufacture flags in Sweden today. The flag house dates from the end of the 19th century with its own flag production. Our seamstresses have great professional experience to be able to produce flags before state visits. The largest flags measure 7 × 5 meters or 35 sqm. Our fitters set up 42 flagpoles around the palace during state visits and then take when the visit is complete, says Stig Kvarnryd.
Among other things, a seven meter large Spanish flag has been manufactured plus the installation of flagpoles around the Royal Palace.

I wonder why the Spaniards didn't have a black-tie return event at the embassy instead of this official reception.

There was one who curtseyed 8 times: not only for the kings and queens but also for the crown princess, princes and princess.

Probably because of limited time, as they are going home tonight.

This state visit was originally planned for September last year, and inteded to be a 3-day visit wich would have seen the 2 royal couples visit a different swedish city on day 3...

However due to Covid the visit was both delayed and shortened (according to the official explanation - but it is interesting that the German state visit this September was a 3 day visit anyway)...

They had time to arrive 1 day before the official Start of the State Visit. Wonder why this part was not incluided in the state Visit so they could have had the Welcome Ceremony and State Banquet on Tuesday afternoon/evening.

The King and Queen stayed at Grand Hotel. It's the poshest hotel in Sweden and is situated across the water from the Royal palace. It's often used by the Court to house guests that aren't staying at the palace.

I was there for a Dinner and on the Wall full of Pictures of Royals who stayed there. But what a view from this Hotel !

The Royal Palace in Stockholm is one of Europe's largest palaces, with some 1400 rooms spread over three floors. It baffles me no guests' appartements were available in that mammoth building.

Yes that is a rather bizarre set up.
