Royal Transport: Land, Sea and Air

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Danish royalty travel by both commercial airlines and military jets. It depends on the distance. When smoking members of the royal family fly commercial airlines, smoking is allowed in the cabin for all passengers.

Moreover, Danish royals have a yacht, the "Danneborg", which is used for travelling within the Danish borders, to Greenland and the Faroe Islands, and at some occasion, even further. For instance, the Royal Family travelled on the "Dannebrog" when they went to the 2004 Olympic Games!

and a private train car, mostly used for when the reigning couple takes up residence at Marselisborg in Aarhus. But it was also used for a state visit in Belgium a few years back.

They used it to travel to Crown Prince Pavlos Wedding too.

I also heard that the heir to the throne and the person reigning cannot fly on the same plane. I think this has changed but that's why when Diana Princess of Wales wanted to take William and Charles on the same plane the Queen wanted her son and William on seperate planes because the monarchy may be at risk. Just in case the plane crashes.

It's still in place LD. The Queen and The Prince of Wales never travel together.

Well, sometimes Victoria and her parents doing the same as the BRF. It happened during last of the weddings
(I don't remember where), but Carl Gustav and Silvia must waite for her.

Royal Summer Vacations

Now that summer is in full gear, I thought it'd be nice to have a threat where we can talk and post pictures of royals during their summer vacations, either of this year or in the past.

The Spanish Royal Family usually spends most of their summer vacations in Mallorca.

Does anybody know where other royals usually go or what they do?

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II ... received a new Bentley as a gift for her Golden Jubilee in 2002.
She got it "free" from Volkswagen (who owned Bentley at that time ... marvellous advertising, eh?).

The Prince of Wales ....
The Prince of Wales also used to have a battered, old, unwashed Land/Range Rover.

I don't believe that, they have to be very careful in the way they spend their money (private or not), ... don't think it's permanent
I certainly believe it, where ex-Queen Anne-Marie and reigning Queen Margrethe are concerned. I've always wondered what the origin of the ex-Greek royal's spending money is. I think Anne-Marie's discretion is legendary and hence worth 'rewarding'.

Talking about origin of wealth ... it is rumoured that King Juan Carlos went to the Middle East when he was a young king, and got a non-repayable gift of at least a million dollars as a result of his schmoozing.

The Dutch queen uses a Volkswagen :)

Not at all. In private she always drives in the newest-of-the-newest fourwheel Volvo.

Queen Beatrix' car park (The Royal Stables Department) has some 100 cars, vans, busses, etc.). As far as I know she has never ever driven a Volkswagen.

Do you have photos of the cars of Reza Pahlevi?

Hellow! I live in Spain and I would like to see photos of the cars of the Pahlavi Dinasty :) Do you have photos or information?

Prince Rashid (Jordan) was driving a black Audi last time I saw him.
Great choice! I love Audi

Where is the garage/parking lot?

I'm looking at various Royal Palaces don't seem to have a garage or a parking lot.

Where do they keep the Royals' cars?

I know this is a dumb question but I'm trying to make a palace in The Sims 2 and I need to know where the cars go! :bang:

I assume they are kept underground. That way they are out of sight, at least the ones that belong to the staff or the family itself. I can't imagine Queen Elizabeth II or King Juan Carlos stopping by one of their many castles, opening the car window with a garage door opener in hand and pointing toward the giant gates of the castle to open up. That would be like out of a Mel Brooks movie.:)

And no, is not a dumb question. I remember that when I was a kid and used to look at history books with floor plans of royal homes and my first thought was 'where are the bathrooms?!?!'

I do not know how the other royal houses do, but in the Netherlands there is a Royal Stables Department which not only takes care for the cars and the carriages, but also for the royal busses, royal train, the royal airplanes, etc.

The two main dependances of the Royal Stables Department are on the estate of Noordeinde Palace (The Hague) and Het Loo Palace (Apeldoorn).

The Windsors keep the Bentleys in the car park at the side of the Palace. They're shielded from view by the cars of most employees and whenever I walk past there's a red Post Office van parked there.

Oh wow. Thanks a lot.

I have a hard time believing that the money from King Constantine's foundation goes toward the purchase of his cars...I just don't think the idea of his wealthy friends giving him money in exchange for favours would be accpetable to anyone (like other monarchs and European society at large)...

Royal Air Travel

After some discussion on the Crown Princess Maxima thread, I wanted to start a thread for discussing Royal Air Travel. Which royal families have their own private jets? Who uses military travel, and who uses commercial airlines? Is there a royal who flies their own planes? Or anything else interesting about royals and flying?
