Queen Silvia's 80th Birthday: December 23, 2023

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I am hoping we will see the Queen's Scandinavian neighbors for the birthday festivities.

With the queens birthday being so close to Christmas I doubt it unless there was something held in the New Year?

She had her public birthday party a few weeks ago - Madeleine was present but not even Victoria attended as she was in het UK at that time. I doubt there will be another celebration - but who knows, Daniel's was also 2 months later as it clashed with his father-in-law's festivities.

The Royal Court has told that the Queen's birthday is celebrated with a private dinner at Drottningholm Palace on 23rd December.
Madeleine and Carl Philip attended on 30th November with the King and Queen Lilla Akademien's concert, where Lilla Akademien wanted to honor its patron the Queen on the occasion of her birthday, and all the Queen's Foundation's were invited.
Victoria and Daniel attended on 5th November with the King and Queen the Queen's birthday concert at Drottningholm Palace Chapel. Usually the concert is arranged on the Queen's birthday 23rd December.

Svensk Damtidning quotes Expressen's paywall article:
Expressen reveals that the Queen celebrated privately at Hotel Diplomat in Stockholm already on Monday.
Singer Åsa Karlson, part of Systrarna K duo, performed at the surprise party and sang an Abba medley interspersed with songs "Julen är här" and "Happy Birthday". It was a dream come true to sing for the royal family. The person behind the celebration was Ingemar Thorell, former piano teacher for the royal children. It was secret until the last moment. Ingemar gave Åsa a hint last fall, late summer, and then two months ago he said "yes, now it will be".
In addition to about 20 girlfriends of the Queen, only the women of the Swedish royal family attended the party. Victoria also seemed to be in an extra good mood. Åsa tells that Victoria sang along and was very happy.

Svensk Damtidning's editor-in-chief Johan T Lindwall was interviewed in TV4's News morning today. Lindwall said that this year with the King's Jubilee has been so intensive and that it has been planned that there will be a big royal party in next June-July, where they will invite royals from whole Europe, especially from the Nordic countries. And so the Queen would be celebrated.
According to Lindwall, tomorrow to the black tie dinner at Drottningholm Palace also the in-laws of the royal children are invited.

The royal court sent this photo to the media already a couple of days ago, it's been taken by Clément Morin on the same day the big family photo for the Jubilee was taken.

The Queen's birthday is a public flag day. The birthday is also an official salute day. The armed forces therefore fire a 21-round salute from the Skeppsholmen salute station in Stockholm and from the salute stations in Boden, Härnösand, Karlskrona and Gothenburg.

Ahead of Her Majesty the Queen's 80th birthday, the children's rights organization Majblomman's (Mayflower) general secretary Åse Henell has presented a commemorative gift to the Queen.
The gift, which is symbolized by a customized gift card, consists of 80 extra birthday parties for children in financially vulnerable situations. This is in view of the Queen's lifelong commitment to children's rights.
Åse Henell:
- We are overwhelmed by the heartfelt commitment that the Queen shows to every child she meets, and to children's rights in general. The queen is invaluable as supreme protector of the Mayflower. We hope and believe that these 80 wonderful, extra parties in honor of the Queen will be appreciated by both the children and the Jubilee. A standing invitation to every party is of course available. The Mayflower has the great honor to congratulate on that birthday!

Herman Lindqvist on the queen's time on the throne: "Genuine commitment" (TV4 News morning)
For 47 years, queen Silvia has worn the crown, which makes her unique – no one else has been Sweden's queen for as long. In a new documentary that premieres today on TV4 Play, you can follow her journey, from childhood, via the famous "clique" with the king, to what she meant to the Swedish monarchy until today. The author and historian Herman Lindqvist and Titti Schultz, presenter on P4 Extra and for the Monarkerna podcast on Radio Sweden, visited News morning to talk about the Queen's greatness

Silvia has professionalized the role of queen, but her work for sexually exploited children and Alzheimer's sufferers has been overshadowed by the dresses.

Where was Princess Sofia? I hadn't seen a picture of her.

The cake party with the eight grandkids was both beautiful and adorable. Silvia's "dessert", indeed!

Pernilla Månsson Colt confronts the Queen at SVT's interview when she was told that, despite the long days, it is apparently not unusual to receive text messages from the Queen early in the morning. Sometimes already at half past four.
Queen Silvia admits it happens. She is asked how many hours per night she actually sleeps and gives a cryptic answer by saying that we've never had time to count that. That's just right. Is it five or eight hours? The Queen says preferably five. It's the least really, you have to do that. Never eight hours, she can't sleep that long, she thinks that life is too interesting for that.
Doesn't the Queen have a desire to downsize, retire and take things a little more slowly? The Queen says that of course you can do that. But there is so much to do, there are so many people you want to help. Also their children are important, for example Victoria. Now little Estelle is a bigger Estelle, 11 years old. But it was important that Victoria has the time she needs for her children, for her family. Pernilla thinks it is perhaps a bit of a "payback" now that Victoria will have more time for her children than the Queen and the King had when they were parents of small children. Silvia nods and says that she thinks it is very important for your family to have that time together.

Clips from TV4's two-episode documentary and interview ”Silvia – Mitt liv som drottning”. Unfortunately you can only see the two-episode program, if you live in Sweden.

During the first year that Crown Prince Carl Gustaf dated Silvia Sommerlath, they did everything to mislead the press. But at one point they came close to being discovered. Silvia disguised herself to avoid being revealed as the king's girlfriend, hear Queen Silvia tell of the time she had to escape the photographers by jumping into a bush!
Då var hemliga relationen nära att avslöjas – fotografen berättar

The queen talks openly about the difficulties for the children in dealing with the pressure from the media. In 1997, the royal couple came out with the fact that Crown Princess Victoria had an eating disorder, something they chose to do to protect her. And when the rumor about Princess Madeleine's alleged disco visit was published, the Queen understood that the youngest daughter would now be called the "party princess" in the media.

The King and Queen have this evening attended a concert on the occasion of the Queen's 80th birthday, organized by Lovö parish at Lovö church.
The ties between the Royal House and Lovö church and parish have always been strong. Proof of that is the church's newly gilded tower spire, which is adorned with a royal crown. A tradition from the time of Ulrika Eleonora the younger.
The proceeds from the concert go directly to the World Childhood Foundation.

I've heard rumours about a party at the Royal palace on the 15th of June.
Drottningholm Palace is closed on 14-17 June. Could they have the party there?

From the rumours I have heard there is a dinner at the Royal Palace on Saturday 15 June, and a lunch at Drottningholm on Sunday 16 June. But of course, this is rumours

I guess it takes more than one day to set the table for such a big dinner. Apartments at the Royal Palace have been closed since the National Day.

I have some insights of the weekend coming ahead, and it is a grand celebration of Her Majesty. There will be a dinner at Vita Havet at the Royal Palace on Saturday (approx 250 guests) and also dancing. On Sunday there will be a lunch at Ulriksdal Palace (that is also closed during the weekend) and a dinner at Drottningholm Palace in the evening.

Apparently, it is all private (a shame as I think the Queen would deserve a Grand celebration) so probably why we haven't heard anything.

Nevertheless, I think we could expect some foreign Royals, bit it might be limited how much we get to see.

Thorgren said earlier that Madeleine comes alone to Sweden in mid-June, so she comes to the celebration.

Svensk Damtidning tells that there are 300 guests.
Around 19.30, the royal family's private giant party for Queen Silvia kicks off at the Royal Palace.
The foreign royals are already in place and Madeleine has flown home. However, it is still unclear whether Chris will participate.
The dress code is black tie and in addition to all friends, there will also be a lot of the royal family's closest relatives, many of whom have flown in from abroad.
The final preparations are underway and the chefs from Operakällaren have arrived.
The Royal Yacht Norge arrived already late yesterday afternoon and king Harald and queen Sonja will stay there during the festivities. Otherwise, all the closest royal relatives and guests will stay at the Royal Palace.
Margareta Thogren said that the Queen is celebrating her birthday with a private summer party now, half a year late. But the royal family has chosen to keep the celebration completely private.

Although the party is private, it would be nice, if the Court would suprise us and publish a family photo from the party.

According to Svensk Damtidning, princess Margaretha and princess Birgitta are also attending the party. Of course princess Christina and Tord Magnuson attend. So the only missing Haga Princess is princess Désirée.
And besides the Queen's 80th birthday party, they can celebrate Christina and Tord's golden wedding anniversary today.

King Harald and queen Sonja hosted an event at the Royal Yacht Norge today.
We see at the photos queen Silvia, Victoria and Daniel and Carl Philip and Sofia. It seems that Madeleine didn't attend.
There were also among others princess Benedikte, Madeleine Kogevinas, Michael Bernadotte, Gustaf and Oscar Magnuson and Hereditary prince Hubertus and princess Kelly.

A luncheon, summer buffet, in the orangery at the Ulriksdal Palace.
About a hundred guests gathered and the king was in good spirits as he mingled with family and friends. The King and Victoria gave a speech. After the speeches, the guests went into the orangery to enjoy the summer buffet. Half an hour later singing was heard from inside the venue.
According to information to Expressen, the celebration continues tonight with an intimate dinner at Drottningholm for the royal couple's closest relatives.
We see also Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine:

No Anne-Marie?
Didn' t know that they are so close with Alexander and Katherine.

Surely Prince Poldi of Bavaria is there but I cannot see him - however I can clearly see Duke Franz of Bavaria and his partner Thomas Greinwald on a couple of photos.
