Queen Fabiola really had the best jewel collection
It could have been possible but the King Albert prioritized getting other things. Either way it is a sad situationCould the Belgian royals not have bought her collection and gave the money to the foundation? That would have been a good solution.

A diamond, sapphire and pearl necklace that was worn and possibly owned by Queen Fabiola will be auctioned at Sotheby's in Paris. The piece is estimated to fetch between 650.000 EUR and 850.000 EUR.
The desription on the aution house website states it belongs to an 'important European noble family'. The necklace dates from 1925 and was used by Doña Blanca de Aragón y Carrillo de Albornoz, the mother of Q. Fabiola.

Wim Dehandschutter -the usually well-informed journalist who wrote the article- speculates that Queen Fabiola may have given it to her Spanish relatives during her lifetime.

If the necklace wasn't given to a relative who is now selling it, couldn't it be the charity that is selling? I've never understood what the charity would do with the Queen's jewels besides selling them.It was stated that the whole complete inheriance of Queen Fabiola would go to the charity Werken van de Koningin / Œuvres de la Reine. That means this sapphire collier must have been gifted by Queen Fabiola by life.
Queen Fabiola wore the necklace in Paris in 1992 and Doña Blanca passed away in 1981.Or the necklace was borrowed from her mother, but it never was hers.
I just tried to follow the link to Sothebys and received a notification that the Lot has been withdrawn. If you look at the auction this necklace no longer appears as a lot.

Apparently the Queen had some important paintings too. I don't see what the foundation can use these for except to sell them. After Fabiola passed away her Spanish relatives complained to the press that there did not receive a thing and that they were not informed.
It is a pity that the necklace was not given to Queen Mathilde, but then when it came from Queen Fabiola's mother understandable that she gave it to her own Family
Exactly it wasn't a historic Belgian jewel and passed back to her family, but it would have been a really lovely addition to the queen's jewel chest.
Didn't her relatives complain about not inheriting the paintings because they were de Mora family heirlooms?
I find the whole issue of the Queen's estate a distasteful overstep on behalf of the media to profit from a fabricated scandal. Since her initial plans weren't illegal it was nobody's business what she had decided to do with her possessions after her death.
No, No and No. Please notI have a feeling that the Spanish Wedding Gift tiara could be next to be sold off!
But maybe the diadem will re-emerge as a bridal diadem for Princess Elisabeth? Who knows?
