Sign of a serious commitment to me and no I will not say the word but yes I think "m" might happen next year.

Thanks for the pictures Yennie! I like Victoria's purse! It's cute.

They seem very happy together.

He greets "media"...

Yes, big moment. May 1st will be from now known as "The day Daniel waved friendly to a photographer" Hurra-Hurra-Hurra!

Some months ago I had posted news on an author writing a book on Daniel and Victoria. And I said, I´d read it. Of course I did (Many thanks to GrandDuchess for getting it for me)
My expectations were low from the beginning. I had checked the other books of the publisher (BigBok) and it seems specialised on that, what I´m calling “train station books“ Books, you are buying for some entertaining read, but not for broadening your horizon.
If one knows “Felipe & Letizia” and “Silvia von Schweden” by Norbert Loh…that´s exactly, that what I´m meaning.
Additionally the author is jobbing as freelancer for Swedish tabloids, mainly Aftonbladet. If one was following Daniel and Victoria a bit in the past 5 years, one knows, what this means.
These journalists are mostly men, write things down like students essays in primary school, and try their very best to make mountains out of molehills.
And of course we know, that there are some kind of “closed ranks”, when it comes to the ppl surrounding Victoria (and Daniel)
Well, when I had read the book, I knew, that I was right (if only my wedding prognoses would have been also that right in the past ;))
Nonetheless I try to summarise the interesting things out of

Daniel and Victoria” (A Love Story) by Andreas Utterström

In the official reviews by newspapers many had turned up their noses at the fact, that Utterström was writing the book as some kind of novel. In fact, this was just the case for the first chapter. This one, you can also read (in Swedish) on the page of Adlibris (bookshop)
http://www.adlibris.se/bookbrowser/default.aspx?isbn=918549917X
The book starts with the sentences “Crown Princess Victoria felt confused. Was she really right here?”
Of course the author couldn´t know, what Daniel and Victoria were thinking, when she entered “Master Training” for the first time.
And exactly this makes it hard to believe the things in the first chapter. Which is quite a pity, since it´s the most interesting one.

According to Utterström, it was Victoria, who had a crush on her personal trainer. She booked more and more lessons with trainer Westling. And one day, she took heart and invited him to Drottningholm.
That it was such an intimate place (and not a cinema or restaurant as most other young ppl probably would have prefered it) should have been due to possible curious ppl.
Victoria should have cooked a WOK dish for him. And it shouldn´t have been extraordinary tasty. This information should be based on some kind of anonymous friends, who later invited Daniel and Victoria for dinner. Then Daniel should have calmed them down by telling, that Victoria is no great chef either.

In the beginning Daniel should have thought, that they were just friends. But little by little the relationship changed to an love affair.
Friends should have told, that Daniel seemed, as if he would have just waited for the right moment to jump off and to break up. But things just went on and on.
According to these friends Daniel also behaved a little awkward in the beginning, so as if he would just “play” himself. When they were invited at this dinner of 4, that I´ve mentioned earlier, Victoria was very clinging, had all the time one hand at Daniel and gave him a kiss on the cheek. Daniel should have laughed a little embarrassed.

Clinging, kissing, a crown princess, that threw all conventions over board and hunts for her gym trainer. I must say, that one could read such things in a very fluent manner.
A friend of mine called the book “Housewife porn”, after having read the first chapter. And I had thought: “Well no proven official biography as the thing, the Norwegian court is planing on Mette Marit, but at least something on the level of a Barbara Cartland novel or the SILVIA novels from BASTEI. One can´t always read Shakespeare and Goethe.
And completely wrong, things probably weren´t either. At least I could very well picture Victoria terribly nervous with an IKEA apron in her kitchen, hard thinking, if one should add garlic at a first date with a “friend”
But then the book lost speed very fast and got quite boring. At least for an old “pro” like me.
It was only natural, that Utterström would start at the beginning…so at their upbringing.
For Victoria he used the Ekerlids publications on Silvia and Victoria as source. That are interview books and officially acknowledged by the court. I´ve both. And so there wasn´t much new for me.
One cute anecdote, I though wanna tell:
When Victoria was 6 or 7 year old she went with her parents to Skansen for celebrating the national day. Prime Minister Olof Palme (who got killed in 1986) was also there. He gave a speech, later a little larva fell onto his arm. With the help of the programme he gave it to little Victoria.
But what did Victoria? She released the little larva on the ground. The queen was surprised and asked her, why she did that and told her that it was a gift of the prime minister to her. Victoria answered: “Yes, I know. But he told about the freedom of all human beings in his speech. And that [freedom] the larva should also have”

Of course it was also talked about the dyslexia and eating disorders. And then there was an very extended chapter on Daniel, the first, Collert. Nothing new in it really.
The part on Daniel´s upbringing could have had potential, if Utterström would have had good sources, but apart from Daniel´s Ice Hockey Trainer from Hofors, who thought, that Daniel had no special talent, but tried to compensate with extra weight training, and apart from some sentences on Daniel often having worn NIKE & ADIDAS and having been popular among the girls (He laughed a lot and one could easily talk with him. At the local club for working out, he soon got the nick name “Handsome Daniel”) there wasn´t much to tell.
Even the fact, that Daniel was born on the very same day, the king ascended the throne was not mentioned.
Also the time at Lillsveds sports college wasn´t described in a way, that we didn´t already know. No girls stories. Daniel lived very healthy. Only once a week, he stuffed himself with Pizza, Kebab, cake etc…to push his metabolism (Does sound like an eating disorder, but I guess, that´s how “bodybuilders” and some sports folk are ;))
His grades were better than in Junior and Senior High school, but he wasn´t much into group work and presentations. He rather prefered the sports part of the education. In the evening the students watched movies or Daniel listened to his favourite band KENT.
Later Daniel left for Stockholm. Benny Johansson saw potential in him, taught him all about administration and one day, they decided to start their own business (all nothing new)...

Then a very long part on the press is starting. It feels as if one would read “Resume” or “Dagens Media“, newspapers, which are writing about the ppl, who usually write about ppl.
Even the boards very own (former?) icon Elisabeth Tarras Wahlberg (ETW) got her own chapter. Heck, she has deserved it and she was much better than all her successors together. But wasn´t this book supposed to be about Daniel and Victoria, and not about the self doubts of Madame Wahlberg (?)
New for me was, that she seems to have a drawer for especially disgusting reports on the Royal Family. One of the first articles getting into it, was an german one about little Victoria having brain damage, because her hand had an awkward position in one picture. So this cruel phenomenon of pseudo medical diagnoses in Royal toddlers by german rags is nothing new.
And among journalists there are floating rumours, that Victoria was everything but happy with ETW becoming her mentor. When she once enterted the room for a meeting, she should have rolled her eyes. Neither the author, nor me are really believing, that these are more than rumours.
What I also didn´t know was, that some journalists criticised Victoria´s first interview as 15 year old as somewhat childish. Then ETW defended her by asking journalists, if they would have kids and how they would have done it.

In the looong part about journalism, the stories on Paparazzi Per-Olof Sännås were most interesting. He seems to be on Madeleine´s hate list.
One time a bodyguard told her, that she would be photographed and she wondered „Is it this damn Sännås again?“
Then it was not Sännås, but she had met him before. Once he hunted her and Jonas all the way from Öland to Stockholm. And when they passed a bridge an other photographer took a picture of speeding Madeleine. When she arrived in Stockholm, she was totally exhausted and started crying hysterically. Then she called ETW, who „blackmailed“ Aftonbladet by refusing any interviews with Madeleine in the future, if they would publish the picture. And so they didn´t.
One time Madeleine and Jonas turned the tables or better said the car and haunted Sännås! When he stopped to take a picture of this obscure scene, Madeleine took a little camera out and photographed him. :D
Daniel has a history of a very bad relationship to the press. Once he snapped so angrily at a journalist on Öland, that even one of Victoria´s security guards bursted out laughing. :D
Personally I must say, that one has to give kuddos to the Swedish Press for not expatiating/exploiting this pretty long phase of adapation with all the curse words in the newspapers. In a small country like Sweden, Paparazzis and gossip journalism don´t enjoy much, if not any appreciation. Ppl are fast with their judgement. But actually it also could have been much worse. I guess in Great Britain Daniel would have hit the road (or is it now called "Kate Middleton road" ) a long time ago…
But there were also nearly „tender“ moments between Daniel and Sännås.
One time he followed him on his way to work. Suddenly Daniel stopped and went towards Sännås.
„Oh see, you have bought a new car“, Daniel said and pointed at Sännås´new AUDI.
„Yes, and actually I should thank you for it“, said Sännås
„Yes, that should you actually. But this time you won´t get any picture, she [Victoria] is out of town“
And then he said goodbye.

An other time Daniel and Sännås started a talk, when he photographed him at Christmas shopping (the pics we have seen here)
„How are things going“ Daniel said
„I´m fine, you are thinking, that I´m pretty annoying, aren´t you?“
„Well, you haven´t poisoned my life very much, but Madeleine was quite angry at you some time ago. You know, how young girls can be“ Daniel said and laughed
They talked a little more and wished each other a merry Christmas

Hoho. Jingoistic Daniel is back.
That he wasn´t completely untouched by the press another story shows. One time Daniel and Victoria were haunted by journalists from Aftonbladet, when they were on the way to Daniel´s parents in Ockelbo. Daniel started to panic and to speed. Soon he was up to 150 Km/h (which is quite normal here…but in Sweden one is just allowed to drive 110 on the motorway and of course it´s a problem with other cars)
Victoria feared, that they would have an accident and called ETW.
When I had once seen in Hey Baberiba, that „Madeleine“ called ETW for help after a car crash (they had parodied the little accident with the taxi and the old passenger involved), I had thought, that this is exaggerated. But as it seems not!
It would have been wiser, if Daniel would have stopped and would have allowed them to take a picture. And probably he also would do that these days.
However ETW called Aftonbladet, they called the journalists (of course Daniel Nyhlén among them ;)) to stop…and so they left the motorway.
The author made quite a fuss around this story and compared it to the death of Princess Diana.

An other chapter is about the negative reactions on Daniel. Here in particular the reactions of Sweden´s brats, the so called Stureplan ppl, are described.
They used to call him “Farmer”, “Gym Trainer” and “Farmer Devil”. Most likely out of Jealousy.
The older generation of Sweden´s posh society used to write to Svensk Damtidning (Royal magazine), that they should stop writing about this inappropriate “farmer”.
The united Monarchists, with front man Michael Lehman weren´t delighted either. Victoria should rather marry a guy out of a german noble house…

An other chapter is about Daniel´s first interview (beginning of 2004). It was given to En Spänn, a school newspaper out of Ockelbo.
Most of the interview was printed in newspapers and was discussed here.
As it seems Daniel planned it very detailed, talked to the court about it and at the end, he checked it word by word with Ulf Gräsberg, teacher at the school and manager of the school newspaper project.
This one also brought his little daughter Nicole. And better she would have done the interview :D
Even though it was clear, that this interview wouldn´t be about Victoria, she was quite curious and straight forward.
“Daniel, isn´t it annoying with these Säpo guys?”
“No, that´s actually not very annoying”, Daniel answered.
“Are they in the house or do they wait outside?”
“They are waiting outside” Daniel replied.
“But when Victoria is brushing her teeth or peeing, are they then with her?”

Here the little investigative journalist was stopped ;) And the older girls took over. The interview is all about creating the picture of a very down-to-earth boy, who loves the nature of Ockelbo and his family (“My niece is the cutest girl in the world” and “I didn´t like school food so much, because my beloved mother had spoilt me so much with her cuisine”) If there is an interest, I could translate it, but I guess these kind of things, we would get to hear a lot around the engagement. And if there wouldn´t be one, it wouldn´t matter so much…

Then there are two chapters about Daniel´s makeover and his new gym, that is open for all.
According to the author, Daniel didn´t get help of the court and had self asked the PR firm JKL for help. Only engaged persons would get help of the court (if this is true quite a stupid strategy with such a long period of dating)
At JKL he had dinners, where he could learn professional conversation.
Among others also Göran Hägglund, these days minister for social affairs was present.
Check these pics. Aren´t you thinking of someone, when seeing these pics :D

And then finally a chapter about the relationship to Victoria is starting. And it´s pretty much the shortest. Nothing about the way, they had arranged their way of living in the past years, nothing about things like this VD necklace, not much about their holiday trips.
The only (maybe) interesting story is the one about Daniel Collert having felt so much pressure with his Ex having a buff guy as successor, that he went to a doctor and asked him to get drugs for losing weight prescribed (He really looked quite chubby in between and is now thinner again)

The epilogue of the book is describing the fictitious (well, what else) scene of a crown prince(ss)ly wedding between Daniel and Victoria.

-Benny Johansson should sit close in the corner with his parents and his sister´s family (unlikely…of late Benny gave an interview and told about their parted worlds. Not that it was evil spirited. But it came out clear, that both had problems with taking a back seat in each others business partnership. Niece Hedvig probably wouldn´t sit with her mother Anna, but would be a flower girl. And probably her father wouldn´t be with them either, because Anna and Sven-Inge seem to live separated)

-Emma and Jonas wouldn´t sit with the Royal Family, but somewhere back in the cathedral (If one of them wouldn´t be engaged already, this is indeed very likely)

-Daniel would wear white tie and no glasses (Very likely and at least I´d hope so)

-Victoria´s dress would be designed by Lars Nilsson (I fear more likelier is Lasse Wallin, who designed all these awful prom-like looking dresses, we dislike so much. Nilsson would have also international experiences. He was working for DIOR and RALPH LAUREN)

-Victoria would wear the Cameo Tiara, also her mother wore for the wedding (Surely possible, but I hope not. Many already didn´t like it at Silvia. I´m undecided, since it fitted to this 70ties inspired dress and her rich dark hair. Victoria´s is lighter and her dress would be different. So I´d hope she would go for one, that is more glittering)

-Victoria´s flower bouquet would be out of white orchids, jasmines and lilies of the valley (wasn´t that, how her mothers bridal bouquet looked??!)

-Bishop Olof Sundby would marry them (This one also married Carl Gustaf and Silvia…and yes…probably until Victoria and Daniel would have made up their minds about marrying…also the day of last judgement would have come and Bishop Olof Sundby would come back on earth to marry them before leaving to heaven forever *coughing* )

-The news of the engagement would be spread via TT (Swedish news agency…very likely even)

- Daniel and Victoria would arrive together in a carriage (I don´t think so. I´m sure he would wait at the altar and Pappa Kungen would walk her down the aisle)

-Daniel probably would get the title prince (Yes, I also think so. Everything else would surprise me and probably also many others)

-Some old Ladies would protest against this marriage (hopefully not...I´m sure the PR machine of the court would run with steam at the engagement and then also the Östermalmtanter would cool down)

-After the wedding Daniel would go on with his gyms (Noooo! Well, maybe he would. But it would be stupid and annoying. These days he is investing in a hotel in Brazil. Maybe that´s the future. But hopefully with many little investment projects, so that it wouldn´t be a drama, if one would fail…)

I´m at the end, time for a conclusion:
Andreas Utterström went to BALANCE and told Daniel, that he would write a book on him. Daniel said, he would be delighted about himself showing up (JKL shows results ;)) and then he asked, if he could do anything against it [this project]
Utterström said no.

And Daniel really couldn´t do anything against it, the court neither. But I would say, this doesn´t matter at all! This book won´t have an impact on anything. And I guess soon it will be forgotten.
Unfortunately it´s not just a little boring, lacking of new things and partly filled with wrong facts*, but there is also no scandal spirit in it. This time I´m not just saying this, because I´m never saying no to a splash of scandal here and an ounce of gossip there, but also because this would mean, that the court wouldn´t feel pressed to do the same, what the Norwegian court is now doing…publishing an official biography as some kind of counterpart to the scandal books on her.

*Partly this guy really got it wrong. We have once discussed about Daniel´s eyes being dark green or brown, but they are definitely not blue!
He also doesn´t seem to have gotten, that Daniel´s sister had gotten a second daughter in 2004.
And Bishop Olof Sundby died 10 years ago!

So better save the money. Spend it on a Daniel-like binging day with Pizza and Icecream and let´s keep our fingers crossed, that we would get real news through the interviews around the engagement in 2008.

PS: Some pics also were in the middle of the book. Nothing new either. I though had to laugh out loud, when seeing a picture of Ockelbo. Utterström went all for the contrast :D

White tie at a wedding?! Isnt that only for funerals?

No.

The situation is similar in the United States, however for many formal occasions (such as weddings and the Academy Awards, for example) the white-tie-and-tail suit was replaced by the standard black-tie tuxedo, after the 1950s. The white-tie had sometimes informally been known as the "soup-and-fish" suit, because it was worn for formal many-course meals which began with soup, then fish, before meat dishes. [2][3]. In America white-tie is still occasionally seen at:
  • Balls and cotillions
  • Weddings
  • Artistic premiers or the opening of an art season in large cities, such as the opera or ballet. The swallow-tail coat with long tails has become almost a cliche for concert pianists of the classical school.

White-tie (evening dress) is usually reserved for after 6pm, so if the wedding is that late, it would be appropriate. Granted the above is for the US, but I would imagine that the same would apply elsewhere.

Exactly. I must admit, that I´m also having some kind of trauma...because I got things so often mixed up. Tailcoat, "smoking", dinner jacket, frack, tuxedo, white tie, black tie :seestars:
Slowly I´m getting it ;)
The original words were "Daniel har skräddarsydd frack, fluga..."

So I´ve translated it with "white tie", because Ari Behn wore it as well and a frack (tailcoat) is mostly, if not even always, worn with a white (bow) tie (and then the whole style is called white tie)

Aha I see. That would make sense... a fluga and a frack is good for a wedding!

What I had in mind was these thin white ties that are mostly used for funerals, atleast here in Sweden. And that wouldnt be a good chioce for a wedding :)

The danish and norwegian Royal weddigs started all around 4pm or 5pm and where all full white-tie events with evening gowns and Tiaras.

Not sure if a swedish Royal wedding would be a white tie events as i think the only one the King and his siblings marriages who had a white tie Wedding was Princess Christina. But i certainly hope that there will be 3 white tie weddings in not so fare time.

Correct about Princess Christina.
King Carl Gustafs and Queen Silvias wedding started around lunch time my parents told me.
But it has not been any royal wedding here since Prince Bertil and Princess Lillian 1976 so lets hope for an afternoon-wedding.

Daniel and Victoria showed their love for eachother.

Saturday may 19 Crownprincess Victoria were in Råshult in Småland to celebrate the Carl von Linné jubilee. Then she left for Båstad to celebrate Ascension Day weekend together with Daniel Westling. The couple also met princess Madeleine and her boyfriend Jonas who stayed at his parents house in Torekov.
The quartet enjoyed fine dining and drinks at Hotel Skansen. They also stayed the night at the hotel and perhaps they took the oppertunity to relax at the hotel spa and took a refreshing swim in the hotel pool.

Its obvious they no longer tries to hide their love, after five years together the couple are very much in love and an engagement is coming nearer. Daniel tenderly kissed Victoria on the cheek infront of the other guest at the crown pricess smiled lovingly.

They have to enjoy the little time they have with eachother. Victoria is very busy and has a tight schedule. Shortly after the weekend Victoria left for Arlanda to greet the emperor and empress of Japan.

Thank you Yennie! :flowers:

Today it´s nearly exactly 5 years (according to the book, it has been the 30th of May 2002), since Expressen revealed, that Victoria would have a new boyfriend, namely Daniel Westling.

5 years. It takes a lot to keep a relationship for 5 years (probably at least 5.5...the Swedish tabloids are slow) up...esp. with all these circumstances.
But don´t things also feel a little hopeless...I mean wedding-wise

http://www.expressen.se/nyheter/1.720498

Birdy tweet-tweet took the chance of getting some PR for his gyms and talked to Expressen. Looks, as if they gave em a deal to report in a positive way only...

He is saying, that they are calculating on a (financially) positive result for Balance in 2008. The other 2, more exclusive gyms, can´t take members anymore...end of capacity.

And then Expressen says, that he is thinking about opening more gyms.
Daniel´s words:
"I´ve several ideas, I´m working with. Until a further (note) things are my little secret, but many things will happen in the future"

I can just hope, that´s some sort of strategy. If not, it´s time to get rid of him. He obviously doesn´t show tendencies of becoming a prince and without such tendencies this role would be the wrong thing for him. IMO it IS as simple as that...and this talking to the Swedish press about his gyms isn´t the best for the Monarchy. But I bet as usual, the more liberal ppl here would disagree

Maybe he is looking for an investor to sell the gyms to. It's often done that the media gives a last positive PR opportunity to a former ads client when the company is being sold and the relationship is going to end but they are hoping for a renewal of the ads contract with the new owners.

Thank you Lena. Victoria looks lovely:wub:

An other wedding, that V&D attended  This time the one of Victoria´s friend Rebecka Svensson, who married Gustaf Wiiburg at Ericsberg Castle

I think Daniel looks like a nice, reliable man who a woman can turn to. He doesn't appear to be vain or interested in making money from his connections, but like a man one could like to come home to after a day of hard, important work. Work in connction with myriads of businesslike people who might be honest in their wish to serve Sweden at Victoria's side but might as well be only interested in themselves and their career. So why not Daniel? I don't see why they shouldn't marry. Okay, he is not a prince but comes from the swedish province. But Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte was no prince by birth either and came from Pau in the darkest provincial corner France had to offer at that time... JB Bernadotte made a fine king - that is not even asked of Daniel, only that he makes a fine consort of a queen....;)

That seems to be their favourite part-time hobby - attending weddings but not their own!

How romantic! Look at the sunset in the windows of the restaurant. The color of Victoria's scarf matches the colors of the sunset.

Thanks for the photo, a very romantic photo and Victoria looked very nice.
