Loved all the wonderful photos. One photo showed Chris and Madeleine passing by the Royal Family. I cannot tell if they were on their way to the alter, or on the way out. Unfortunately, they were not watching her. Victoria was busy helping her mother hold Estelle. Her father was smiling at them. No one was looking at the Bride and Groom. For this reason, I think it would have been better to leave Estelle with the Nanny. It was Madeleine's day and the attention of the Royal Family should have only been on her and Chris.

Hope this doesn't come across as judgey or whatever (I don't mean it as such!) but why were Chris's sisters wearing tiaras? They're not royalty or even nobility, so, personally, It's not what I'd choose to do in that situation. Loved their mom's fascinator, though!

I don't know about non-royal or non-noble families in this social strata, but is it possible that some have family tiaras passed down from farther flung relatives who were once noble? If it were a family tiara such as that, then it should be worn IMO. I can't imagine going out and acquiring one just for the occasion. In my case, I simply couldn't afford to do so anyway!

Hi!

I was --- and AM --- one of the posters who made my feelings COMPLETELY clear on the subject of Chris and how he appeared and read to me in most of the pics taken of the two of them (and him) prior to their wedding.

I am ALSO one of the ones who did not appreciate his flipping a bird at a photog, back in November, thought it was childish behavior on his part, and said so.

I stated my observations and opinions then, and still stand by what I previously posted on the subject, now.

Having said that . . .

I am just beginning to REALLY post anything at all now, AFTER the wedding, because I was at work most of the day and missed most of the festivities, anyway, and couldn't post more than one or two times.

So, nope, I DIDN'T take the day off. I was just unavoidably delayed and am catching up on a lot of what I missed since I got back in a couple of hours or so, ago.

What I'm about to post as regards Chris today at the wedding (based on what I've been able to catch up on so far, going through these threads), was going to be posted ANYWAY, after I'd gone through to the end of this thread, but I saw your post and decided to respond to it immediately.

The man melted my heart, today.

That shot of his face as he saw Maddie coming down the aisle, looking as though he was about to lose it, made ME almost lose it, too.

I was --- and AM --- SO happy to see that pic, and others of him beaming like a lighthouse and radiating sheer joy.

I've stated this before and will state it again, here and now: Yes, he's handsome, but he's even MORE so when he smiles.

And, BOY, did we get to see PLENTY of his teeth TODAY!

Yep, I DO recall saying words to the effect that he read to me very negatively because of the fact that in MOST of the pics of him I'd seen since his engagement announcement, no smile was anywhere on his face. While Maddie, OTOH, was always beside him, smiling so hard you could practically see her wisdom teeth! I said he seemed grumpy and appeared as though he didn't want to be any part of the situation he now found himself in, being engaged to Maddie, even though he himself had created the situation by proposing to her in the first place, and the photogs, and so on, were all a part of it.

Yep, I said that, and stand by it.

Just as I've also said that after seeing the photos of the guy today, he really moved me through his apparently genuine emotion, affection and love for his lady that CLEARLY showed on his face and through his actions.

Yep, I said that, too, and stand by it, as well.

And yes, I wish them well, and sincerely hope they'll last a lifetime together!

:flowers::flowers::flowers:

I agree! I think at the wedding we saw the Chris that Madde fell in love with. I had my misgivings about him as well. He just came across as serious and somber. Was lovely to see such emotion from him!

I agree. If it's a family tiara passed down, wear it. This is one wedding where a tiara wouldn't be out of place!!!...any wedding I would be at would be out of place unless I were the bride!!:D

Didn't know! Thanks!:flowers:

A funny little story about the green wristband Madeliene wore beneath her jewellery wristband, from BT: Overtroiske Madeleine - se hvad hun gemte under juvelerne - Royale | www.bt.dk

I think it's so funny that Madeleine wears a Bahia band, because I do too (almost eleven months and still going strong). Mine is bright yellow and actually, at the first sight of Madeleine's band, I thought hers was too, but apparently it's pistachio-coloured. I think it's rad that she didn't take it off for her wedding day. I'm actually not superstitious, but it would be a waste of wearing it for nine months only to take it off for her wedding.

There's more information on Madeleine's band here.

Because as long as you can afford one, you can wear one. That's the only thing that really determines nowadays, whether you wear one or you don't. Pony up the cash, and you can get a decent-looking headpiece for special events, like your brother marrying a daughter of the King of Sweden.

Watching the video of the cortege today. Amazing crowds lining the streets, gorgeous open carriage and so many horses and military in their finest! Really something to see so many people turn out for only the younger sister of the crown princess. Such a good idea to have them do the route to show off the beautiful city of Stockholm and its people, to people like me, who have never been there.

Tiaras are just jewelry. You can wear them or bracelets or earrings, who cares. The other concept is ridiculous. No one is better than another.

And the other one is married to Henry d' Abo who is the son of Lady Ursula Manners, daughter of the 9th Duke of Rutland.

I have to say, following a few others that have posted, I was not a big fan of Chris. In fact, I struggled to find anything in their pairing that inspired me to believe that they were in love and he was a good match for her. I don't find him attractive in any sense of the word, but that is my personal taste and has nothing to do with what others may see. To be honest....I kind of found him to be rather cold and arrogant. I struggled to find anything good to say so I thought best not to say anything.

That being said.....after seeing the emotion, happiness and joy on his face throughout the ceremony and how proud he was to show off his new bride....I am sold. He struggled to hold back his tears when he first saw her walking towards him and when hearing "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" sung. He again broke down when the Minister spoke to them about the importance of the little things in a relationship that make a marriage. He couldn't contain himself or hold back his affection each time he looked at her. I had tears in my eyes throughout the ceremony, not because it was a wedding....but because the beauty of the feelings displayed. THAT was pure naked emotion and showed me all that I missed from pictures and brief videos of this couple.

I am happy for Madeleine. I am happy for the Swedish Royal Family. I am happy to see that two daughters married men who on the outside may not be what we might view as the "right" kind of men to marry important royal Princesses, but on the inside are everything these Princesses need. :)

Chris's sisters both married into the aristocracy, one British and the other Austrian. So they were more than likely wearing family heirlooms from their respective husbands.

The O'Neills are about as high society as they come.

They're married to nobility. I don't think they would've worn the tiaras otherwise. That would be embarrassing and tacky.

I have to agree. It reminds me of Paris Hilton/Kim Kardashian/reality TV star type wanna-be's when I see non aristocratic women bouncing around with tiaras on their heads, whether they can afford them or not.

I will never forgot Prince Charles pre wedding ball when Betsey Bloomingdale showed up wearing a tiara. She looked even more pretentious and affected than she normally did. The British press in particular was simply merciless.

Tatjana is married to John Henry Erland d’Abo, the grandson of the 9th Duke of Rutland John Henry Montagu Manners. Henry's mother was Lady Ursula Manners. Henry owns a family estate in West Wratting outside Cambridge, the oldest parts of the house are from 1710.

Natascha is married to the austrian count Ernst Rudolf Ferdinand Felix Maria von Abensperg und Traun. Ernst and Natascha live in a castle in Maissau.

Expressen tells about the "Beard mystery" of Carl Philip. At the official wedding photos it looks like he has much more beard than when he walked to the Chapel with queen Silvia. The photographer Ewa-Marie Rundquist tells that the photos were taken directly after the wedding. She says that Carl Philip stands furthest from the light, so it may be that the shadow falls so. There is absolutely nothing odd with the picture, she says.

I think that the lighting at the photos wasn't the best possible.

I'm not Swedish, or Danish, or Nowegian, so I can't comment on Swedes or anyone being influenced by Americans regarding brides being walked down the aisle by their father, but to blame it on one culture is wrong, imo. My family is German and it's a tradition in Germany, among some as far as I know, to have the bride walked down the aisle by her father (or a male member of her family). It's a british custom. It's an Australian Custom.
Yep, it's a custom in many European countries, incl. Britain! Some expert in the live wedding coverage said that it used to be a Swedish custom several centuries ago!

It's very silly, imo, to blame it entirely on America. There are legit reasons to dislike America & American culture, I don't see this as being one of them..

As a Dane I don't associate the father-giving-away-thing with America whatsoever, nor would a Brit. However you've got to accept that it might be different to a Swede because in Sweden the custom has been obsolete for so long!!!
While we're discussing it: we (the Europeans in general :)) do get influenced by esp. American customs via films and TV -series. An example: In American films the bride is usually walked up (or 'down'- cross out the one not applicable :D) the aisle to the Bridal Chorus By Richard Wagner ('Here comes the bride*) . That's definetely not the tradition in my country but many brides believe so, because they've seen it on TV!). So TV has a big influence, and if you want to keep your own customs intact I think that protests are in order:)!

think they would've worn the tiaras otherwise. That would be embarrassing and tacky.

Anyone can wear a tiara at least at a Scandinavian RF event if
the invitation says 'tiaras may be worn'. Some well-to-do commoners
do so if they're often invited to these galas, but it's normally a headpiece - albeit genuine! - on the more discreet side. These women are careful not to not to upstage the royals!
What's important is that the tiara must be genuine! No paste of any sort - the cute little tiara I once bought in Las Vegas for 12 dollars would be an absolute no-go ;)!

Has anyone seen the photo's of Prince Frederik at Princess Madeleine's wedding? Does anyone else think he appeared to be very slim; almost unhealthily so?

He is trim and fit and very good looking if you ask me. :D

Well I cannot disagree with Osipi on this subject! I've observed CP Frederik for many years now and would say that he has maintained an excellent, trim physique throughout. He's certainly not lost weight as far as I can see. In fact, from the photo I saw of him walking in Stockholm with CP Pavlos teh other day, he appears to have toned up his chest muscles abit (compared to a beach photo I saw of him and his family a few years ago!).
Facially, Frederik has matured quite abit from his boyish, cute days in his 20's and 30's and is more handsome now than ever before. So, Neillondon, don't worry - I think he's fine!

Yet again, Sweden has provided us with another wonderfully festive royal wedding and I am enchanted! I really don't think you can beat an early summer wedding in Sweden - sunshine, water, summer flowers, tradition and modernity all roled into one great big super wonderful event!
I absloutely loved that all the guests got onto a boat to travel to the reception - so much fun and excitement, one can only imagine how it was to see the amazing palace looming up as the boat gets nearer!
Princess Madeleine looked so beautiful and regal, yet her gown I think was modestly traditional. I loved the children singing as she walked up the aisle too!
Everyone looked so happy and gorgeous in their finary, especially Victoria.
Finally, Chris looked great and I consider the two Swedish princesses have each got themselves the perfect husband!

I love Mr Bojangle's, what a great choice! I wish we had seen the waltz, but I understand they wanted the reception to be private.

I think Frederik looks awful as of late, but I have ALWAYS thought Joachim looks terrible. He looks 10 years older than Frederik, even though he is younger!

Kerstin Hagsgård from the Royal Court pointed out that Swedish royal brides have usually been escorted to the altar by their father/brother/other relative with the exception of Princess Christina and Queen Silvia.

I think Victoria (and now Madeleine) entering with the King but approaching the altar with the groom was a good compromise. Also, given all the prior speculation that the King did not approve of Daniel, I think the King walking Victoria halfway down the aisle was a symbolic act to show his approval.
