Madeleine have most likely been taught to smile to the public and press from early childhood, Chris have yet to learn to fake a pleasant smile for the press.
I think you are right about Chris. He has led a "normal" albeit privileged life and publicity has been mainly restricted to the Society Pages and his mother's Charity activities. After all, Sweden is a long way away and they'll only have to trot out on show for special occassions, you know, those lovely little black tie events he is used to. You alight from the car, pose for the camera and move on into the venue, the world left behind. He, happy little NY bunny that he is, still fondly imagined that he was entitled to an actual "Private Life". He's lived a life of luxury and privilege and what he does, thinks and says is his business . . . and now, suddenly, it's not anymore.
Poor Chris, I think he made a decision about the "baggage" that comes with Madeleine believing it wouldn't be an issue on his home turf, at least not one that he couldn't handle and suddenly here comes the "Royalty Paparazzi Rat Brigade", digging into every corner of his "life before Madeleine", reinventing his life, his career, trying to muddy his professional integrity and implying that he is a crook!
And there he stands, a mature, educated, urbane man of the world, frozen like a bunny in the headlights and reduced to one last great act of taciturn defiance.
It's been one hell of a wake-up call and I guess "Charm School - a beginner's crash course in grit your teeth and smile!" is next on his agenda.
