Estelle and Oscar weren't at Walther Sommerlath's funeral
- None of the royal grandchildren were present at the funeral. They also do not show any symptoms, says Margareta Thorgren to Svensk Damtidning.
However, the court has taken major precautions also regarding the children and Estelle was today at home away from her school Campus Manilla and Oscar wasn't at his preschool either.

Not wearing face masks (except in a few situations) is in line with authority guidelines. If they were changed the Royal family would start to wear masks.

Just because there is not a 'mandate' in place, doesn't mean they can't wear.

People look to leaders, celebrities and in this case royals to set an example. If they see them wearing a mask, they are more likely to do so as well.

In Sweden the example to set is to wear a face mask at times when it's impossible to maintain a socially distance not to wear them all the time.

I cannot understand why someone like Daniel isn't wearing one and, to be honest, IMO it seems clear the "Herd Immunity" idea has proved to be incredibly hard to handle. It's fine to talk about death in percentages but for family, friends and communities ate finding the reality hard to deal with. The idea of losing any members is the SRF is hard to accept when it doesn't have to be.

Have I missed where the authorities say 'don't wear a mask unless.....'

The king and queen are in at risk age group. Daniel has had a transplant, and his immunity won't be as great as others. Sofia is volunteering in a health care facility. All of these are groups which are considered at risk, and where a mask is recommended for use. Victoria and Carl Philip wearing a mask would simply be protection for their loved ones and themselves.

They haven't outright told people not to wear masks, no, but the Swedish health authorities have been very sceptical about the effects of mask-use and still don't recommend the use of them. To a point where I actually do think the entire royal family showing up in masks would be perceived as a disagreement with the official stance on the issue. Even if it makes perfect sense for them to do so based on the reasons you have listed.

I mean, you say it yourself: You want them to set an example by wearing masks. But wearing a mask is not an example the authorities seem to want them to set in accordance with their current recommendations. So if the SRF showed up in masks at the funeral almost simultaneously with Folkhälsomyndigheten reiterating to the public that they still won't recommend the use of masks, it would look like the SRF questions the authorities and their approach.

This is not a defence of the Swedish approach, I just don't necessarily think it's a shock that the SRF aren't going to go against the authorities.

Victoria has a big challenge ahead of her. It is a balancing act between giving her child a sense of safety where she can play and develop as a child but at the same time be prepared to become Sweden's queen in the future. The basic safety is vital.

Same challenge her father faced with her. And any of the other heirs are facing with their children as well.

I think Victoria and Daniel have already proven to be able to find a good balance. They have introduced Estelle to royal duties younger then other royal heirs. And not just attending big ceremonies, but also learning about the history and traditions as well (visits to the cathedrals, museums and such). She is gaining both a comfort level with the public attention, and a good footwork of knowledge of what she will need in the future.

She lacks the deer in the headlights look of some other young future monarchs.

I think Victoria and Daniel consciously decided that including her in her mother's public birthday celebration would give her a touch of being in public but for Estelle, it was always about her mother. As a way to test the waters it was inspired and when she had had enough she would run to her nanny and go inside.

Years later she is happy and is included in 'family' occasions, as is Oscar. It's almost as if she takes for granted that this is her normal and is happy to share.

Estelle's class at Campus Manilla at Djurgården has confirmed cases of covid-19.
The court has received information that there are corona cases among the students. Margareta Thorgren tells that Estelle has had a cold for a few days and has been away from school, so she is not affected by this. Everyone in the family has been tested for covid-19 and all test results are negative. Thorgren says that the test results are "current".

Svensk Damtidning asked Margareta Thorgren how long the Crown Princess couple keeps Estelle at home? Thorgren said that she doesn't have information about that currently. But Estelle has been home because of a mild cold for a number of days. After the family received the information from the school, the family was tested today. And they have tested negative, all of them, said Thorgren. She doesn't know when Estelle last time met those who are sick with corona, and she didn't know if Oscar was at preschool as usual.

Svensk Damtidning called Margareta Thorgren to ask how Estelle is feeling now. Thorgren said that Estelle is healthy from her cold and has been back at her school Campus Manilla since Monday.

The fence doesn't look very protective either. Anyone could climb over from my teaching point of view! Unless there's tightened security elsewhere in the school, which I would be surprised if there wasn't because I remember reading some Swedish celebrities send their kids to Estelle's school too, as well as Estelle being there herself of course.

"Camp Estelle", the base of the Swedish Armed Forces' missions in Gao, Mali, has got its name from princess Estelle. The camp was inaugurated on Victoria's birthday 14th July last year.

Press release from the County Administrative Board of Östergötland
The county's duchess turns nine years old
On February 23, Princess Estelle turns nine years old. Previously, the Princess has received charms for a bracelet made by the goldsmith and artist Margareth Sandström for the Princess' one-year anniversary. The charms have represented the province's symbols. The bracelet itself is linked by a cornflower - Östergötland's province flower.
Now that the bracelet is complete, the County Administrative Board of Östergötland chooses instead to invite the Duchess to the county in a telegram from the governor.
Governor Carl Fredrik Graf at the telegram:
“On behalf of the County Administrative Board of Östergötland, I would like to express my warmest congratulations on the Princess's ninth birthday. It is an honor for us in Östergötland to have the Princess as our Duchess and we are very proud of that. When the times look brighter, we look forward to welcoming the Princess to discover what our county has to offer".
Sometime during the year, the county is expected to be visited by the Princess's parents, the visit has been postponed from November last year to 2021.

In honor of her birthday, Estelle got a geranium named after her.
The geranium Estelle is a light pink zonal geranium where the petals are slightly darker in the middle, sweet as sugar and really princess-like. It was developed by a grower in Holland, it has taken several years.
Anna Unné at Hörnhems market garden tells that this is how it goes when a new geranium is produced. You cross different varieties and see if it works to take cuttings and even if it can withstand being out for a whole summer.
They have the rights to the geranium, which will now be raised by various growers in Sweden.
The first year, the geranium Estelle is only sold in Sweden. What it will be called in Europe is not clear. But here it is named after today's birthday child.
Anna Unné says that it was really fun that the court approved the name and she has seen it in some stores already.

Estelle will grow up to be more like Victoria IMO. She reminds me a little of Madeleine as a child too.
