Wills Begins Public Life in New Zealand
More than 20 years since he last visited New Zealand, Prince William has returned Down Under to begin his post-university public life.
Arriving in Wellington on a commerical flight, the 23-year-old Prince, clad in a suit and tie, was met by the country's prime minister, Helen Clark, at the airport on Thursday morning.
From there he kicked off his ten-day visit, which will include his first solo engagements representing the Queen, by rubbing seriously broad shoulders with the British and Irish Lions rugby team.
Chatting with the squad, currently on a sporting tour of New Zealand, the 6ft 3in royal was heard commenting, "I've got to look bigger!" as he posed for photos next to beefy team members Will Greenwood, Brian O'Driscoll, Gareth Thomas and Gordon Bulloch.
"Hopefully he'll come out and kick a ball about," said Gordon of the self-described "huge rugby fan". "He's meant to be quite good."
William will attend Saturday's test match in Wellington, and also plans to meet with the rival All Blacks team.
Prince William was last in New Zealand when he was nine months old, accompanied by his father, the Prince of Wales, and mother, Princess Diana.
