Prince Sverre Magnus's 18th birthday: December 3, 2023

Loved the pictures :flowers: I still remember when he was a baby and toddler, how time flies!
He's one seriously big dude!

And he's not even keeping his feet together, so you can add a few centimeters to his height in these photos.

I'd like to see him and Christian standing side by side, to compare them.
I'd love to see them together. But you can have an idea if you compare the photos from Christian's 18th Birthday with heirs (Ingrid Alexandra) and these pictures where she's near her brother.

Despite being so tall, I still think Gabriel is taller :D

Yes, he was. He escorted Princess Martha Louise and Rosario Nadal into the luncheon.

I was wondering who that handsome brunette woman he walked in with was. Marius surely looks like he needs a good nights sleep. Probably enjoying his young partying days a bit too much.

I'm fairly sure we can't see his other hand because of his pigmentation issues. He has a very large birthmark on that arm and might be reflexively self-conscious about it.
I don´t think he has any problems showing it, he never had!

Was he present at all?
If you have watched the live coverage, you would see him escorting the (Ex-) Princess of Bulgaria, Rosario, to the birthday luncheon

For somebody in her mid-80ties the Queen seems to be very fit. She dropped her purse on the floor and with ease and speed bended through her knees to pick it up. A great way to age.

She and Queen Silvia look remarkably fit and healthy at their ages. Quite a rarity!

Translation needed! Seems like it's an interesting interview between the siblings :D

Today, Prince Sverre Magnus turns 18. Get to know the Prince a little better when older sister Princess Ingrid Alexandra interviews the birthday child.

That was a very good video. We get to know Sverre much better. He's a pretty serious and grown up guy now. And his sister is so very obviously very fond of him. (Even though I suspect she absolutely loved to tease him and probably still does.)

No earth-shattering revelations but we get to know a lot of tidbits about him. In short he is basically a pretty normal eighteen year old Norwegian guy with pretty normal interests: Hanging out with friends, gaming, binge watching movies, skiing - and photography.
He chose the school he's going to because of his sister. So he may actually be listening to his sister, in contrast to so many younger brothers...

A number of years ago we saw a very animated Sverre on the Balcony during the 17th May festivities. (Clearly something Ingrid has teased him with ever since.) Sverre explained that he had just wolfed down no less than five ice/ice-servings (not sure which) so he was high on sugar when the family went out on the balcony and that could be seen!

Ingrid tried jumping in a parachute and that is something Sverre loks forward to as well. (Again, clearly something Ingrid has been talking enthusiastically about.)

- There is also a list of his favorites whatever. I think you can work them out from the subtitles.

All in all a very endearing interview.

I like the first picture. It shows a confident prince; the other two are less appealing - but I'm glad to see him celebrated on this birthday milestone.

I am wondering what is the purpose of all this hoopla (am official luncheon, multiple rounds of official photos, a TV interview to get to know the Prince...etc) if the Prince is expected to lead a private life and not take on a public role with royal duties.

Very good interview and good choice of interviewer! (I wonder if there is a 'behind the scenes' version along the lines of "ugh, dork-face, I have to do this...", but Ingrid and Magnus have always seemed like the sort of siblings who are happy with each other, so good for them.)

I still maintain Magnus is not as comfortable or confident as Superstar Ingrid — his body language is a lot more tense.

Its hard for anyone to not seem a little less confident next to Ingrid, that girl just shimmers. She really is a superstar. I agree as well, Ingrid really loves and appreciates her brothers.

I don't think there has ever been an official announcement regarding his future, just a few general comments. From what I've gathered, they are giving him a pretty wide berth to decide how much royal vs private work he will wants to do. That being said, he is still a member of the NRF and raised and supported by public money. The Norwegian people deserve to get to know one of their prince's a little better. I think this was a perfect balance for an 18th birthday for someone in his position.

I personally hope he follows in the path of his great aunt Princess Astrid or Princess Christina of Sweden. He seems like a nice, grounded young man and I'm sure he will be a huge asset in supporting his father and sister.

I think it's a little bit more than just having such a supremely poised big sister while Magnus seems more like one of us mere mortals... He's just sitting in the living room, talking to one of the people he loves best in the world... and he's still not totally comfortable. Ingrid has made her peace with living part of her life on camera and how she tells the media what she wants them to know so long ago (or she's an incredible faker, but)... it hasn't been part of her brother's life.

Even the fact that they got Ingrid to do this and didn't make him talk to some random person from NRK instead, seems to show he's being quite well-insulated.

I hope this isn't going to prove detrimental should Magnus have to face the media more regularly at some point.

There is no doubt he is not as telegenic and naturally charming as his sister (who just seems to be a natural, or has had some serious training) but he is way, way better than what his father was at 18. Haakon was then painfully shy, had no humor and was taking everything to seriously, he will get better with time. He is also a very much "boy 18" like Prince Christian in typical: "What am I going to do with theese long arms and legs I suddenly got" and therefore a bit akward.

I think it was good they finally took some official photos of him, that has not been done for him since 2018, unfortunaly not the best ones I think. The litle instagram video was a good idea, that we get to know a litle bit a bout him and his personality. In 7-8 years when Ingrid has finnished her education the NRF might be very, very slim, with maybe only two working members, his role might be a bit different that what they think today.

Yes, M-M’s health might deteriorate further, though everyone hopes not, and therefore Haakon and I-A will have to cover everything in about seven years. I do think in fact that until Ingrid-Alexandra marries (to a husband who will be willing to take on some royal duties) and has produced a couple of offspring Prince Magnus will continue to be of importance to the NRF for some time yet.

A new portrait of Prince Sverre Magnus has been released today to mark the Prince's 18th birthday on December 3:

The Prince is the image of his mother in that photo ,but I can also his see his grandfather the King too!

Those of you who watched this interview closely (especially those from Scandinavia) may have noticed that Sverre Magnus had a different way of pronouncing the letter R than people from Eastern Norway usually do.
And that is most likely because he's heard his mother do it.
(The Crown Princess is from Southern Norway and speaks South Norwegian.)

You can also notice from 2:20 in the video that Ingrid also seems to do it (she doesn't do it in other parts of the interview, and I've never heard her do it before).

Here is a TV2-article about it (link). Google translation (link).
Before you open the Google-link, be aware that the translation became pretty weird, especially the headline!
