Princess Sofia works extensively with Project Playground and the Prince Couple's Foundation. But she doesn't attend at an important assignment and many are disappointed.
Twice a year, Sophiahemmet organizes a large graduation ceremony for the graduating students in Stockholm City Hall. Three years ago, Princess Sofia was appointed new honorary chairperson of Sophiahemmet and since then she has attended the ceremony and distributed brooches to expectant nurses.
But in January, the princess fails to arrive to the graduation. Instead, the chairman of Sophiahemmet Lars Kihlström Burenstam Linder will deliver the brooches. Svensk Damtidning has spoken to an information provider, with a close connection to the university, who says that many students feel disappointed that Sofia is not coming.
- It's bad that she breaks a fine tradition this way. We are many who are very sad and disappointed that she breaks a long-standing tradition in this way. The least you can ask for is that they send an equivalent replacement, one with the same rank, says our informant.
Sofia took over the assignment after the king's sister, Christina, and that a princess spreads royal splendor over the ceremony has therefore been a tradition for many years.
We call Margareta Thorgren to hear about Princess Sofia's other commitment, which means she cannot be involved in the graduation ceremony.
- We haven't got that far in the planning yet, she says.
Could it be that Princess Christina takes Princess Sofia's place?
- We may return with information about who is participating.
