Free concerts are a good way to attract people but were those performers big names?
More like pop music where in the US or UK would veer more towards rock.

But, Sweden is a big exporter of pop music and pop songwriting!

Wonderful celebration and coverage and good thing it didn’t rain for the fabulous vasaorden. And thank everyone here for links and info

Many of the performers are favourites of the Royal Family and big names at Swedish music, who have sang at events in connection of the royal weddings and birthdays.

Loreen is a two-time winner of the Eurovision Song Contest, in 2012 and in 2023. She has performed at Victoria's birthday concert.
Peter Jöback sang at Madeleine's wedding at the Royal Chapel, at Victoria and Daniel's pre-wedding concert and at Queen Silvia's 70th birthday concert. He has performed at Victoria's birthday concert four times.
Björn Skifs sang at Victoria and Daniel's wedding at Stockholm Cathedral.
Molly Sandén sang at Carl Philip and Sofia's wedding banquet and is their friend.
Tomas Ledin is one of the King and Queen's favourites, they have been in many of his concerts and Ledin has performed at Queen Silvia's 70th birthday concert and at Victoria's birthday concert.
Lill Lindfors is a friend of the King and Queen. Her husband is a member of the board of Solliden Palace company/Sollidens Slott AB. She has performed at Victoria's birthday concert.
Magnus Uggla sang at Victoria and Daniel's pre-wedding concert. He has performed at Victoria's birthday concert.

IKEA is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year – the very same year the King is celebrating his 50th year on the throne. To recognise this, IKEA has designed a very special and unique piece. The gift, a classic armchair with a royal touch, will be displayed for the first time at Kungsträdgården in Stockholm on 15 September.
The armchair, an iconic IKEA piece, was first sold in 1967. Then it was called MILA and was designed by Gillis Lundgren. Now, IKEA is reintroducing some of its classic products as part of the collection Nytillverkad and the armchair will be reintroduced as DYVLINGE in January 2024.

Örebro University Choir performed at the King's Jubilee dinner
The royal couple visited Örebro in May and they were treated to a jubilee concert in the Stadsparken directed by Fredrik Berglund and with Örebro University Choir.
Fredrik Berglund tells:
- The royal couple appreciated the concert in Örebro and afterwards I was contacted by the court and The Stockholm Concert Hall. They told that the king wanted me, together with the Örebro University Choir, to be part of the entertainment also during the Jubilee weekend in Stockholm. What an evening we got to be a part of! Royalty, prime ministers, government and business leaders got a taste of what we at Örebro University have to offer.
The Choir entered from the southern vault singing the song "Fin", a traditional Swedish folk song. The choir performed four songs and the Royal Family and guests were treated to both Evert Taube and Laleh.
- We performed songs from different genres and all of them are dear to our heart. I hope we offered a lot of musical joy, that is our earmark, says Berglund.
He has put together the music program together with Stefan Forsberg, the executive director of the Stockholm Concert Hall (he is also a Cabinet Chamberlain of the royal court).
- It is incredibly honorable and fun that I had the honor of proposing a large part of the repertoire for the evening's musical entertainment. The starting point has been Swedish music and then the king has had to choose from several proposals.
The King had wished to hear "Anthem" from the musical Chess. Then the ensemble was reinforced by artist David Lindgren and musicians Anders Neglin and Jesper Harrysson.

What a magical concert! The mini-history lessons with montages of King Carl XVI Gustaf's activities (a beautiful mix of pomp and bread-and-butter engagements) interspersed with classics from each decade seamlessly blended the jubilee and the music, and for me it was an educational experience. The emcee's talk about (if I understood her correctly) people like herself coming to Sweden with nothing but their belongings on their backs and the joke about how she would have come running if she'd known she'd be standing there today was moving (she seemed to be choking up too), and the King getting on stage at the close of the concert to personally thank and joke with the performers was a wonderful demonstration of the "folksiness" that won him points in that recent poll and of why (as the emcee talked about) in an open democratic country, the king is so beloved.

During the balcony appearance, Crown Princess Victoria looked very much in-charge! She moved around the most and looked to be making sure everyone was comfortable.

Margareta Thorgren says that the King is very grateful and satisfied with the Jubilee weekend.
It has been a busy weekend, but also a busy year where the King visited all the counties in Sweden to mark his 50 years on the throne. Despite that, he should feel good and be alert – and it's lucky because he won't get time off for a while.

However, she points out that there will be time for rest for the King, but it is not included in the schedule.

Roger Lundgren, the author of the book "Kungen 50 år på tronen – en biografi" (The King 50 years on the throne – a biography), says at his interview in QX that he wrote the book in one year, but it is actually the result of work that has been going on for 20 years - as long as he has followed the King and his family professionally. The book turned out to be much more comprehensive than what Lundgren had originally thought.
Since Lundgren has met the royal family in both public and private contexts many times, he has seen sides that most people do not know. The King is quite afraid of heights, has more energy than most people his age and is a very loving grandfather who has a box of toys in his office for his youngest grandchildren. (..)

The seminar deals with the legacy that The Royal Court and the National Property Board manage and which has been relevant during the King of Sweden's 50 years on the throne and all the 500 years that have passed since Gustav Vasa's reign. The properties - buildings, interiors and parks - have changed character and also purpose since the first Vasaborgs, over the castles of the great power period and the 18th century and to the later pleasure castles and villas.

The King and Crown Princess attended seminars arranged on Thursday and Friday by The Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts and The Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities. The seminars were arranged on the occasion of the King's 50 years on the throne.
On 28 September, a half-day seminar on 500 years of royal architecture, with the title From Vasaborg to Italian villa, dealt with, among other things, the care and restoration of Swedish castles and castle gardens.
After the seminar, the King gave a speech of thanks.

KDU proposes that all Swedish people get a copy of the King's Jubilee portrait. The monarchy shouldn't be a class issue. The King represents all Swedes, regardless of where they live and where they are socio-economically. Sweden's democracy, monarchy and monarch should be celebrated. In celebration of King Carl XVI Gustaf's 50 years on the throne, the Stockholm School of Economics is establishing a new professorship in youth leadership. The funding for this new professorship comes from a joint initiative by the Swedish business community.
The total amount, raised in honor of the King's Golden Jubilee, comes close to 90 million SEK, of which 60 million SEK will go to the professorship at the Stockholm School of Economics, and the remaining amount to H.M. King Carl XVI Gustaf’s Foundation for Young Leadership. It is the King’s wish that this gift be used to promote youth leadership.
Those financing the professorship in youth leadership include Carl Bennet AB, the Erling-Persson Foundation, the Schörling Family Foundation, PO Söderberg, the Ragnar Söderberg Foundation, Stena AB, the Torsten Söderberg Foundation, and the Wallenberg Foundations.

The day begins with a seminar in the Modellsalen at the Naval Base which among other things will highlight the security policy situation in the Baltic Sea and the marine development.

In the large Jubilee exhibition "Vasa to Bernadotte, 1523–1973–2023. Culture in Service of the Realm" displays spectacular objects that take you on a journey from then to today.
500 years of monarchy have given us a cultural heritage that is both rich and multifaceted. This year's anniversary is commemorated with the most extensive exhibition ever arranged at the Royal Palace. The exhibition is on display until January 7, 2024.

The King attended today the Jubilee year's seminar "The Baltic Sea - so much more than a polluted inland sea", arranged by The Royal Swedish Agricultural Academy.
 
During the Jubilee year, SVT has shown a unique portrait of Carl XVI Gustaf in the documentary series Kungen och jag..
Other channels also showed documentary series that portrayed the king. Among other things, TV4 in the series Tronen and Discovery Plus in The King with Two Faces.
Many more television shows have had the king as the main character. But in SVT's annual "Året med kungafamilen" (The Year with the Royal Family), he reveals that he did not take part in anything. He refuses to watch them, he doesn't like it.
- I think it's shyness, says Queen Silvia.
Does the media get a fair picture of the king?
- Well, if you put all the interviews together, you might get a good picture. For the most part, they have really tried, says the queen.

The King and Queen speak at SVT's "The Year with the Royal Family" (published on 18th December) about the Jubilee year and especially its county visits.
The King says that it was very nice, very informative and very sympathetic to be able to talk with the local people. He is asked what the Queen has meant as support during the years.
- If there are two of you, you see two things from two sides, we have four eyes and you perceive everything in different ways and then we can discuss it when we get home. It helps enormously to have someone by your side, so that you can help each other.
The Queen says "Thank you very much" and both start laughing.
- Yes, I hope you can say the same for me. We're a team or whatever you want to call it. When we are traveling around, we represent the family and the monarchy and the history and the future, says the King.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Music published two days ago a video of the Jubilee year's concert "500 years of Royal Music" in Uppsala Castle on October 27. The concert is arranged by the Royal Swedish Academy of Music.
The King and Queen attended. The King's speech starts at 1.40.05.

The King's memorial gift is in place at Residensparken
Now Karlstad residents and people of Värmland can try out the King's gift, the world's first fossil-free steel bench at Residensparken in central Karlstad.
In 2023, the King celebrated 50 years on the throne. The King and Queen visited Sweden's 21 counties during the year. At the visit to Karlstad on 7 September, the King received a bench as a memorial gift from Värmland's sixteen municipalities, Region Värmland and the County Administrative Board.
The bench was named Tellus because it was designed and manufactured with sustainability and the planet in mind.

In connection with the celebration of 50 years on the throne, the King donated a grant to the Sea Rescue Society to promote safety at sea. The donation is currently being used to build a brand new sea rescue boat.
The King has a great commitment to the Sea Rescue Society and has been the organization's patron since 1973.
In early September, the King visited the shipyard in Hunnebostrand where the boat is being built. During the visit, the King met representatives from the Sea Rescue Society.

Sjöräddningsällskapet bygger ny räddningsbåt

I samband med firandet av 50 år på tronen donerade Kungen ett bidrag till Sjöräddningssällskapet för att främja säkerheten till sjöss. Donationen används just nu till att bygga en helt ny sjöräddningsbåt.
