Welcome home to the Crown Princess family
A real family idyll - 41 rooms and kitchen
When Victoria and Daniel married on June 19, 2010, the renovation was not yet complete, so after the honeymoon they lived still at the two-room at Drottningholm. But just a couple of months later, they moved to more spatial Haga Palace with its 41 rooms, 13 bathrooms and guest toilets and two kitchens, all on a surface of 1,550 sqm.
You can imagine yourself, how easy is it to decorate a 1550 sqm Palace that will both function as a representation and as a private residence. Interior designer Helena Belfrage was commissioned to design Haga Palace together with the Royal Collections. Absolutely not only with precious heirlooms, it would be a comfortable and practical home for a young family with hectic professional life, the Crown Princess couple decided.
Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel have not invited everyone to their home, showed it to us. In the part of the palace that is their private, no photographers are let in, but on some occasions they have shown up the representation part, which also it is extremely cozy. The photographing usually show five rooms towards Brunnsviken, with the grand room in the middle, the living room to the north and the library and dining room to the south.
The large entrance is tastefully furnished, a bit of a luxurious waiting room. How to get the huge stone table in place is a mystery, it must weigh a ton. A bit cute is that the two pictures that hang on the wall, taken by photographer Rolf Turander, refer to the background of the Crown Princess couple. One with motif from Drottningholm Palace Park, the other over a beautiful lake outside Prince Daniel's home town of Ockelbo.
The grand room got a new look when the king's parents moved there. The tiled stove disappeared and was replaced by the magnificent fireplace that is crowned with the Bernadotte and Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha's coat of arms. At that time, it was the family's private living room.
Today's living room is cozy and bright, with a soft carpet and a lovely long inviting sofa filled with velvet pads. The Italian table comes from Nordiska Galleriet and over it the ceiling lamp "Hollywood" dangles in modern style in contrast to all antique crystal chandeliers. Photographer Turander is also represented here with beautiful pictures of unique books from the Bernadotte Library. Also on the walls are lovely black-and-white pictures of the king as a little prince and his grandfather, old king Gustaf VI Adolf.
At the time of the king's parents, the library was the king's father's workroom. One of the paintings immediately gets our attention, a painting of the palace and its surroundings from the beginning of the 19th century. The books that fill the shelves do not seem to be something that the Crown Princess couple is browsing everyday, beautiful older leather bands, but of course it is also a representation floor.
Something that required a lot of effort to renovate was the well-known architect Carl Hårleman's fantastic square-patterned oak parquet, which was originally located at Fredrikshov castle. Parts of it were carefully removed to be repaired at the workshop, others could be renovated on site. The result was not a floor that looked completely new, just as planned, it appears that the floor is worn after generations' steps over the oak parquet.
The dining room is a real pastry in different shades of blue. Chairs dressed in beautifully royal deep blue, walls patterned in blue and perfectly draped curtains in light blue. As the icing on the cake the wonderful crowned double mirror doors and the glitter from Brunnsviken outside.
