The Former Monarch who was deposed in 1809 died in exile and was buried in Moravia .

It wasn't until 1884 that his remains were brought to Sweden and interred at the Riddarholm Church.

His wife, Frederica of Baden had predeceased him in 1826 and his buried at her family vault at the Collegiate church of St. Michael in Pforzheim , Baden.

Legend and some contemporary sources (though interestingly not his autopsy) has it that King Adolf Fredrik died of a seizure after having a meal consisting of oysters, sauerkraut, meat with turnips, lobster, caviar, kippers and champagne finished off by 14 (!) semlor (sweet buns) in hot milk (aka hetvägg) for dessert after which the King keeled over while playing cards.

Christina was also proposed as a possible bride to Sigismund III Vasa whom she was related via her great grandmother Barbara Jagiellon but given the Polish king was Roman Catholic zealot I'm not sure how that would have worked with the strict Lutheran Christina.

Joséphine de Beauharnais ,queen dowager of Norway and Sweden had travelled to Rome the previous year on a pilgrimage and was received by the Pope and he also gave her Holy Communion at Mass.

Sigismund III Vasa was also King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania.
He was devoutly Roman Catholic and he stamped out the growth of Protestantism in Poland–Lithuania.

The future king with his parents ,John/Johan III of Sweden and Catherine Jagiellon during their imprisonment.

The future king was born Joseph François Oscar Bernadotte ,Joseph Bonaparte was one of his godparents.
In 1810 his father was selected as a future candidate to the Swedish throne and the family left for Sweden.

Bernardine Eugénie Désirée Clary was the daughter of François Clary and Francoise Rose Clary
Her father was a wealthy Merchant and Désirée was baptised at the Saint-Ferréol church in Marseilles.
Désirée was educated in a Convent up until 1790 when all religious orders were dissolved and her father and older brother were later imprisoned during the height of the Terror.
Her father,François Clary died in prison in 1794.

Sadly his mother Katarina of Saxe-Lauenburg died before Erik was 2 year old having suffered a fall while pregnant.
The king then married Margaret Leijonhufvud in 1536.

A later disproven rumour at the time was that Queen Katarina had been murdered with a hammer by her husband in a fit of rage.

Yes that's true as her remains were exhumed and examined in the 1940's and the results disproved these rumours.
