The King has also appointed his brother The Duke of Edinburgh to be the Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembley of the Church of Scotland for 2024.

It will be the 2:nd time Edward serves as Lord High Commissioner. The first time was in 2014, when he was known as The Earl of Wessex.

Is Prince Edward's appointment as Lord High Commissioner for only one year?

That is such great news for the Prince to become a member of the Order of the Thistle. A lovely photo too with the family dogs.

Lovely honour for Edward - this couple work diligently & quietly for the Royal Family without the fanfare. They are underrated stars and I wish we saw more of them

Such wonderful news. He was first made a Counsellor of Stated. Last year -also in connection with his birthday- he was made Duke of Edinburgh last year in connection with his birthday and now this honor (one that his sister received in 2000, his nephew in 2012 and his sister-in-law last year). Good to see him recognized in this way as one of the key players within the royal family!
A very well deserved honour for the Duke to mark his 60th birthday!

This must have been a special visit for both the Duchess and the regiment; being the first in her role as Colonel-in-Chief.

Its the done thing in the RF- big birthdays usually result in either a promotion in honory military rank or a new order/honour.

Yesterday, April 6, the Duchess of Edinburgh was photographed carriage driving in Windsor again:

Edward and Sophie are doing a brilliant job. This was a big occasion. French Republican Guards taking part in the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace, and the Coldstream Guards doing the same at the Elysee Palace! It's the first time ever that troops from a non-Commonwealth country have taken part in the Changing of the Guard, or that non-French troops have guarded the Elysee Palace, so it really was a big occasion.

Sophie seemed a little bit ill at ease at first but it went well once she was chatting with the various soldiers.

Probably concerned about conversing in French.

I mainly referred to her moving up the podium at the start. She seemed a bit unsure what to do as she arrived before her husband.

That may have been the first occasion for Edward to wear his Order of the Thistle Star.

Looking forward to see him in the Order of the Thistle procession outside St Giles’ Cathedral this summer.
