Crown Princess Victoria began September with a trip to Japan as UN ambassador for global sustainable development goals. Next on schedule is a visit to New York where she goes in the same role.
The director of the press department Margareta Thorgren says:
- It's an official mission. She is primarily there as the UN ambassador to the global goals in 2030. She will visit the UN and have meetings.
The packed five-day trip begins on Thursday.
In addition to meetings in the UN, the Crown Princess will carry out Sweden-promoting activities. The schedule includes a visit to the Swedish star chef Fredrik Berselius's restaurant "Aska" in Brooklyn.
During Friday, Victoria will attend the memorial ceremony of former Secretary-General Kofi Annan, whom she met several times. Later that day she will visit the Nobel Monument together with Leif Pagrotsky, the Swedish Consul General and Harriet E. Berg, who is Norway's counterpart.
In early September, the Crown Princess visited Japan, even in the role of UN ambassador for global sustainable development goals. There she participated in the Sustainability Conference "Keystone Dialogue", where ten of the largest fishing companies gathered and discussed global cooperation on sustainable seas.
One of the Crown Princess's heart issues is just sea and water issues.
During the New York trip, focus will be on more overall environmental goals, but she has a meeting with sea expert Jennifer Jacquet and even a UN-level meeting at sea issues.

Crown Princess Victoria visits New York this week. The purpose is a series of meetings in the role of ambassador to the UN's sustainable development goals. But Victoria also wanted to get some "Swedish promotion activities" because the recent visits to the United States have almost exclusively been about her commitment to the climate.
Therefore, she was immediately interested when the Swedish Consulate proposed a visit to Aska Restaurant in the trendy Williamsburg area of Brooklyn, New York. The restaurant is run by the Swedish star restaurateur Fredrik Berselius - and is awarded with double Michelin stars.
That way, Victoria hit two birds with one stone. The restaurant offers not only Scandinavian flavors - they also have a vision of sustainability and grow their own herbs and vegetables in a garden a few minutes from the restaurant.
In the garden, the Crown Princess received a guided tour by Fredrik Berselius. She seemed amazed at the green oasis - just a stone's throw from the busy Williamsburg Bridge that leads to Manhattan.
- You even have butterflies. And birds! I would also love this, she said.
She asked several questions about how the restaurant works and takes advantage of what can be enjoyed by the different seasons.
- So Swedish, she suddenly exclaimed and smelled of a flowering bush.
The American employees explained that all Swedish elements in the garden are thanks to Aska.
- It smells so good, continued Victoria.
- They are fennel flowers, explained Fredrik Beselius.
The Crown Princess then acknowledged that she had thought hat the plant was dill.
- I thought it was ... "Krondill," she said when she did not get to the English word. But now I feel that it smells like fennel.
The Crown Princess's journey continues today with a visit to Gateway, which is the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce in New York's meeting place for Swedish companies that want to establish themselves in the US market. In the evening there will be dinner at Consul General Leif Pagrotsky at the Swedish residence.

On Thursday afternoon, Victoria arrived at Gateway, which is the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce in New York's meeting place for entrepreneurs and innovators who want to establish themselves in the US market. 2,000 square meters high up on the third avenue with huge windows and views of Manhattan.
Among financiers are large companies like SAS, Ericsson, Saab, Volvo and Nordea. The Swedish fitness company Casall will decorate the office gym, Swedish Tenn assists with textiles for a Swedish feeling and the Swedish coffee chain Fika will stand for the coffee. Although the meeting place has not yet opened - and office space has so far resembled a construction site - several of the tenants are already ready. Among those who paxed an office space is the training company Hyper Island - and Queen Silvia's charity World Childhood Foundation.
Anna Throne-Holst, who is the president of the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce in New York, was the one who welcomed the Crown Princess and then showed her around the premises.
- It was a lovely beginning in this kick-off phase to have her here, she says.
- She was very interested in how we thought and how the venture would benefit both large Swedish companies and the younger companies in the growth phase. She was wonderfully nice and interested.

Great initiatives. I really like how some of the continental royals are involved in the UN and initiatives outside their borders. :flowers:

Victoria's important meeting with climate scientist
Victoria's New York trip continues - now focusing on the seas.
Yesterday she met Professor and climate scientist Jennifer Jacquet together with Swedish professor Henrik Österblom, who had previously acclaimed Victoria's efforts for the environment.
Victoria's program continued on Sunday with a series of meetings in the UN headquarters. She met, among other things, Secretary General António Guterres together with the other ambassadors for the UN's sustainable development goals, and during the evening it became a joint dinner.
It was in early 2016 that the then Secretary General Ban Ki-moon appointed the Crown Princess to one of 16 ambassadors. In a press release from the royal house, Victoria told how honored she was:
- The issues highlighted by UN sustainable development goals are crucial to the world. I hope to contribute to the important work in the future.
The 17 goals are about how the member states will work together to stop poverty and starvation, create peace, realize human rights, achieve equality and protect the planet and the world's natural resources.
For Victoria, the work has primarily been about climate issues and the seas. Recently, she visited the "Keystone dialogue" meeting in Tokyo to discuss sea and fishing issues. On the trip was the Swedish researcher Henrik Österblom. Afterwards, he described the Crown Princess as "completely fundamental to the success".
In the evening on Swedish time they arrived together for the next meeting - this time to meet the American professor and sea expert Jennifer Jacquet. Jennifer Jacquet is a researcher at New York University and has also written the attentive book "Is Shame Necessary? New Uses for an Old Tool" where she writes about shame as a tool for changing the world.

From Monday, Victoria at "High Level Meeting on Sustainable Ocean Business". Haakon attended at this event too.
"Her Royal Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden says it quite simple at the “Sustainable Ocean Business Action Platform”: A healthy ocean is a necessity for our survival #ourocean #sdg14 #sdg17 #UNGA2018 @globalcompact"

Victoria said at her speech among other things:
"Ladies and gentlemen: There is no doubt. We are at a critical point in time. The state of our oceans is deteriorating at an alarming pace.
There are enormous tasks ahead of us. But there are also grounds for optimism.
I would like to mention just one example. For the last couple of years I have been an advocate for the UN Global Goals. As such, I have had the privilege of being part of the SeaBOS initiative; a result of an ongoing dialogue between scientists and seafood companies.
SeaBOS stands for Seafood Business for Ocean Stewardship and it involves the largest companies of the global seafood industry. These key actors are fierce competitors. But in this initiative both the CEO:s and the operational staff have managed to come together, setting new standards for their industry. They are now leading a global transformation towards sustainable seafood production and a healthy ocean."

Victoria gave an interview to Expressen which has followed her in New York.

Early on Tuesday morning Crown princess Victoria lands in Sweden after intensive days in New York. Sister Madeleine lives in Florida but this time Victoria didn't have time to visit her. Instead Victoria's total focus was on work.
- It has been a good trip. We have succeeded both in the events which promote Sweden and at UN issues, which are so important, Victoria says after the last lunch in UN Headquarters.
- I have especially tried to highlight the Sea issues but there has also been focus of the participation of young people. UN wants to give a bigger platform to the young to drive their issues.
Victoria is passionate about climate and sustainability and she says it is important to notice how acute this question is.
What is the biggest impression during this trip?
- That we are starting to see the moment now when the business life comes among and takes a bigger responsibility. They want to have more clear info on how they can work with sustainability issues. And that is unbelivably positive!
The Crown princess has met some of the world's best climate researchers and Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. Among them is a great concern that people don't take the threat seriously.
- Antonio Guterres told about an enormous frustration that the climate changes are underestimated. Prognosis were made some years ago and now the situation is worse than thought.
What does the Crown princess do to be climate smart?
- I think It is tough to be a consumer. Even if you want to make the best and wisest choices. I think It should be easy to do right. It is tough but I try to read.
Many Swedes got a wake up after the record warm summer and all forest fires. How worried is the Crown Princess?
- I am very worried that this will have huge consequences on so many different levels. Many of them we can not even predict today.
The family waits home in Sweden. Victoria tells that Estelle has it good in Campus Manilla, she thrives and thinks it is fun. Victoria says that when we speak about the children she wants also say that it is never too early to start to speak about climate questions. Their children are very interested and curious.
How does the Crown princess talk about this with her children?
- We talk every day. When we sort out garbages. Oscar is only 2,5 years old and he starts already to sort out garbage. You don't have to scare them, but let them be with you.
There has been information that the crown princess met Princess Madeleine during the trip but it is not so, Victoria tells.
- No, I haven't met her. I wish! It would have been very nice to meet her and the family but it will be on another time.
Her little sister now lives again far away after a time in Sweden.
- I know! It is terrible, Victoria says.
