That's it!! I am definately in love! I love the Dannebrog. You can keep the big multi million dollar billionaire yachts. The Dannebrog is for me. I could think of nothing better than to be a sailor on board. I just love the way the royal family use her also. I think it is easy to love seeing her in so many different exotic locations. Where hills and mountains frame her beautiful curves. (As you say.)

Thanks for the warning Muhler about the scenery on day 2. And mang tak to all who posted links and videos. It is so nice to see this loving family together and being so normal except when posing for photographs. They do that well too.
The Faroe Islands another beautiful place in the world we tend to overlook.

Carina, I think we will see the children wear the national costumes all three days, because they are presents from the local municipalities and they would no doubt like to see how their presents look on the children. Apart from that the islanders are very proud of their costumes. - We may not see the children Sunday though IMO.

Thanks for all the background material Muhler, it's the little things that give not only context but colour, like that the traditional clothes were a gift. It made the fit and the beauty of the clothes even more special and import. It's those little gems that help to flesh out and give context to what we are seeing and reading.

But oh Muhler, we can indeed guess who Mary is looking at. A handsome and happy husband called Fred. Who'd have thought that your erudite, fact-driven and often humorous persona housed a distinctly romantic marshmallow centre?
 
BTW a posy is a small mixture of hand held flowers. In Victorian times also called a tussie mussie. TMs were usually made up of flowers that had a meaning, health, wealth, love etc.
So flowers given to royals at various events are usually posies. Being a small mixture of flowers rather than a large bouquet type.

CP Mary's family is gorgeous. But, is it right for the children to be so high-profile and to be fussed over so much? There is an issue with the European monarchies and that is that any monarch's younger child is not becoming self-supporting. Therefore, would it be better if the royal children only see Real Life and then the heir starts Public Life as an adult?

Growing up, we used the word posy, incorrectly,as a more casual name for a flower. I really don’t hear it used anymore. Unless I am playing “ring around the rosie”

I think it is lovely for the people of the Faroe's to see the children growing up so fast. And we can see they love to hug each other very much.
I can imagine Fred rolling around on the floor wrestling with his boys in private.

And might i just say that at 50 years of age Fred is still the best looking Crown Prince in Europe with Haakon a very close second.
I know Polyesco will agree with me.
And congratulations to Mrs Muhler on her silver wedding anniversary.

How are they "so high-profile and fussed over so much" ?

It's not a family visit if the kids are not there. Frederik and Joachim also took part in similar visits when they were kids and growing up.

The Crown Prince Couple's kids are not often on official visits or events. Much less than Joachim's kids. Most of the time, during school year, we see little of them. During holidays, it's mostly paparazzi photos.

As kids of the future king they will be in the public eye, even if they don't have royal duties. It doesn't mean that they can't "see real life" for most part.
So will Joachim's kids and they are the kids of the "second son".

The heir (Christian) can't just pop up at 18 and be expected to be ready. So far, he hasn't been much in the public eye but that will probably start to change.

Josephine is wearing a down jacket underneath the cape. She must felt really cold from the previous 2 days. Maybe she didn't participate in some activities yesterday because she was sick?
 
Looks like the children are beginning to tire, mentally I mean, and probably form being on so much.

However M&F need to address the yawning. Fortunately they have already done that in regards to the older children - even though there is the odd slip as we can see from Christian today.
Prior to age 10 it's forgivable and sometimes charming. But past 10 it's IMO a no go, except for the odd slip, which we all make from time to time. And that applies to all children, not just royal children.

Josephine does yawn quite a bit and I wonder if it's a (i'm not sure what the English expression is) defensive thing. Akin to animals yawning when people look at them. I.e. a sign of being uncomfortable.
I think it's a little too much for the poor Josephine to be so much on. Which may also explain why she cling so much to her siblings and mother.
We know she's a showgirl who likes to be on - for shorter periods at least and I imagine, on her terms. But here she is on a lot - and also has to behave.

I imagine it's a hard process for a young child to learn to be in the public glare. But it's a process they have to go through, so IMO better now than later when they are more self conscious - and more aware of what people think of them...

The yawning does not bother me as much as the not covering the mouth when yawning.


Yeah I've noticed that Vincent, who is usually the most reserved of the four, is showing the most personality on this trip. Maybe he will be the royal who takes a special interest in the Faroe Islands.

I actually haven’t noticed the yawning but I haven’t been looking at videos. Josephine looks tired and clings for sure. Maybe she isn’t sleeping well on the trip. Or, she could be yawning from the cold, something my husband does. It does seem to be cold, not very low temperatures but that damp, drizzling, windy weather which somehow gets into your bones. I was thinking they should all be wearing long underwear.
If the twins are out all day long and have to pay attention to speeches, etc, and adult oriented activities, they could be yawning from boredom. They are only seven.
They seem to be a lovely,loving family and quite genuine. I adore the hugs and affection that Christian shows his mother. IMO, for a boy of that age to act like that shows tremendous self confidence.
I had fun imagining what I would do if I was Mary returning to the ship yesterday, what would be first, a hot bath or a stiff drink, or both!

Thank you to all those who shared the photos and videos of the family in the Faeroe Islands! It looks as if they are having a wonderful time and it seems like they aren't short of activities on offer. The traditional dress is beautiful; and I don't mind the family wearing it either - as since others have said, wearing the traditional dress is seen as a sign of respect and there were some other locals wearing it meaning that Mary, Frederik and the children weren't totally left out.
I've always wanted to visit the Faeroe Islands but I've heard they're quite difficult and expensive for us ordinary folk to get to. The nature looks beautiful though.

20 year old Sunnrið Johnsen also has problems seeing, so she and her helper had taken up position along the route the family was going through Thorshavn. She has been reading about the CP-Couple for weeks!
Christian went over and shook her hand, to her great delight, followed by Mary who gave Sunnrið Johnsen a hug - and now there is one seriously happy woman in Thorshavn today!

Just an FYI, and I’m sure you didn’t mean any harm by it, but “retarded” is quite an offensive and outdated term for those with disabilities here in England. As someone with an invisible disability I was quite uncomfortable by its usage here but I’m sure that wasn’t your intention, as it’s probably a cultural difference in language and terminology. I’m not trying to make you feel bad or anything, since, as I said, I have an invisible disability myself; I just thought I’d enlighten you on how the word is perceived in other countries and cultures.
 
The Crown Princely Family visit to the Faeroe Islands has been one of my favourites this year,the photos were wonderful and the scenery was simply breathtaking!
 
What a great third day! The kids are learning wonderfully under the loving care of their parents. Its such a joy seeing them interact. Christian, at almost 13, still hugging his dad and mom is beautiful to see. And always attentive to his siblings.

They are still kids but you can see they are learning. Vincent has really opened up in this trip!

Later today, Frederik and the prime minister participate together in the award presentation at Tórshavn’s stadium, Tórsvøllur, where the Faroese cup final in football takes place. After the match, The Crown Prince will present medals to the players.

No, I never intended to be offensive.
However, as you know English is not my first language and I'm often not up to date as to what terms are used currently. - It makes it even more complicated that there are so many English speaking countries!

The talk of the town on the Faeroe Islands (literally!) is that Frederik jacket sacked on him on the first day. The islanders, being proud of their traditional suits, would normally frown on someone who showed himself in public in an ill-fitting suit. But obviously hadn't tried it on until at was too late to have the jacket fitted. And he did indeed comment on the sagging jacket, saying: "I must have lost weight." - But the problem was soon solved. Somewhere Frederik borrowed another jacket and now he looks appropriately.
- I think trying out an item, only to learn too late, that it doesn't fit anymore is familiar to every male in Christendom! It sure is to me, but that's because the atmospheric composition in our closet tend to shrink my clothes. :ermm:

While M&F visited the hamlet of Tjørnuvik (population: 64) they were for once on this trip dethroned. Instead two year old Elias stole the show.

I figured it must have been a translation issue - your English is impeccable especially since it’s not your first language, and I really admire those on here who have English as a second language (or even third) but sound like they are native speakers. Sometimes Google and other translator services pick up some problematic words or use outdated translations so it’s not your fault. But for future reference, we would normally use the terms “disabled” or “visually impaired” / “blind” here in England.

I am glad to see that the children are being trained on the job because for some of them this is how the future will look, visiting, greeting people, being interested or at least learning pretending to be.
And I am also glad that they are allowed to make mistakes that will probably corrected in the future, Christian is almost 13, yawning without hand before mouth etc, needs to work on concentration but it will come. Josie & Vincent are very young to pull through such a visit.
Also the brothers wrestling, its a good thing to see that they behave naturally in front of the cameras, its the usual boy stuff that's done at home but they need to learn that you need to differentiate what to do in public and what not.
At least they are not running around like robots going through the motions.
For me the one royal kid who has already quite mastered the art of public events at a very young age is Estelle of Sweden.

It was two clubs from Thorshavn who had made it to the finals. - I watched the match live on Eurosport last night BTW. (*)
Observe how Frederik very considerately kept his hands in his pockets most of the time, so that his hands would be warm when shaking hands with the players...

The Crown Prince family has visited the municipality of Runavík where they visited the Faroe Islands largest salmon farming business. Then the children held pause from the official visit while the Crown Prince couple visited the Faroese village Hvalvík and took a sail trip out to the highest waterfalls on the Faroe Islands and visiting two other villages.

In the evening, the children attended the evening reception at Dannebrog.
Yesterday's last visit participated the Crown Prince and Prince Christian in when they handed over trophies at the football tournament.

Today is the last day of the Crown Prince family in the Faroe Islands.

It has been a very beautiful trip and the Crown Prince family receives well-deserved very positive and proud comments from all.
I will also give a hand to the 4 super cool, curious, well-behaved, natural and very loving children. They have also made this official visit to the Faroe Islands with bravour. Well done, Frederik & Mary. They must be proud of their children. Frederik told the DR News that the children had to get off a few days from school, but this trip was "school of life."

Today is the last day, and with only two events. So it is goodbye to the Faeroe Islands :flowers:
