Official Visit to the Dutch Caribbean Begins in Bonaire 

 On Saturday January 28, Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima and the Princess of Orange started a two-week long official visit to the Caribbean part of the Netherlands.
In the morning the Royal Couple and the Princess were officially welcomed by the Lieutenant Governor of Bonaire, Edison Rijna, in his official residence. Members of the Island Council and the deputies were present as well. 
Afterwards they paid a visit to the Witte Pan slavery houses, symbol of Bonaire’s slavery past. During the visit, accompanied by the chairman of the Fundashon Historiko Kultural Boneriano, Bòi Antoin, the King, the Queen and the Princess were informed about the history of that place. Then the Royal Couple and the Princess moved to the Cultural Park Mangazina di Rei where they attended a cultural and educational event called “Nos Zjilea”, during which “local residents and tourists get together and enjoy Bonairean culture”.
At lunchtime King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima and the Princess had lunch in Arawak with residents of Bonaire.
In the afternoon the Royalc Couple and the Princess moved to the Sorobon bay where they attended a windsurfing demonstration. Then they paid a visit to the Stichting Nationale Parken Nederlandse Antillean (STINAPA N.A.), a national park founded in 1962. In the park the King, the Queen and the Princess met with Junior Rangers to be informed about nature conservation in the coastal area, the mangroves that protect the coast and they also took a boat trip through the bay and the mangrove area.
The first day of the official visit ended in the municipality of Kralendijk where they toured cultural market with local products, gastronomy and musical performances.
