Belgian King and Queen Begin Official Visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo
At the invitation of the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), His Excellency Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, Their Majesties King Philippe and Queen Mathilde started today, Tuesday June 7, a six-day official visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The Royal Couple, arrived in early afternoon at the airport of the capital Kinshasa, was welcomed by President Tshisekedi, First Lady Denise Nyakeru and members of the government.
The King and the President inspected the honour, were played the national anthems and, as part of the welcoming ceremony, took place a dance performance.
Initially the visit was scheduled for 2020, to mark the 60th Congolese independence and it was postponed due to the Coronavirus outbreak. Then it was scheduled for last March and postponed again due to the invasion of Ukraine.
